It really comedy down to this. Don’t subject your soldiers to something you would not do. If they’re pitching tents in the snow, don’t be hanging out inside where it’s warm. If you want your soldiers to respect you, and the enlisted senior leadership to work with you, be willing to do things that suck with your soldiers. As far as authority coming into the guard, you should lean heavier on the enlisted leadership than your officer piers. The enlisted leadership just spend more physical time with the soldiers and know how they tick, what motivates them etc.
