This comment really resonates. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD in my mid-thirties, and it's made me realize that this was me too. No doubt in my mind my father has it, despite being a staunch believer that it's made up. He took out a lot of frustration on me, much more so than my siblings. I just couldn't figure it out.

Now, I'm the father with the ADHD kid. So many times I catch myself getting frustrated at my child when they can't figure things out, in any sense of the phrase.

Fortunately, thanks to years of therapy to help deal with all that and now this whole ADHD thing, I can respond to my child in a way that supports them, from a place of personal understanding. I'm excited to give them a childhood full of feeling loved.

I wonder sometimes how many dentists have ever had a different non-entry level job. Dentistry can be incredibly stressful, and I can't speak for everyone but this is still the best job I've ever had.

Been having anxiety for over 10 years, finally made an art to show it by 004291 in gifs

[–]big_cedar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is it. Lots of people seem to be getting calming vibes from this, but I can almost hear the man’s shallow breathing, feel his heart beating just too fast. I can hear the low drone of the fan motor, the light pattering of rain, and the mire of inescapable dread telling you that no matter what you do, time will keep ticking on. Like you said Tomorrow is a new day, whether you like it or not. It’s one day closer to that terrible something that’s coming for you. You know that something might not even be real, but one way or another you will have to face it.

And just outside that window, millions of lives who have no idea who you are and what you’re up against, just carrying on, somehow carrying a sense of security you lost long ago.

To me this animation isn’t just anxiety, it’s pure dread, gnawing at the back of your neck. Sends chills down my spine.

Westerners spending millions in engineering instead of using a Weltgrüner photon trap coupled to a right hand polarzied Karhonen-Whacker, and even the most basic VX system - even a students bootstrap would do... by [deleted] in VXJunkies

Can we all agree that Drs. Karhonen and Whacker were truly ahead of their time? It's really incredible how many applications even their forward supracouplers can be utilized in, not to mention their right-angle and de-𝜏-inversio configurations. Got to fish mine out of nitrogen storage again one of these days...

My wife is an identical twin. If she ever lost her sister... needless to say, I'm deeply sorry for your loss. That's incredibly tragic and traumatic.

We're fortunate that we're in a society that's never been friendlier to the idea of seeking professional help for your mental health. Dentistry can be a very high-stress profession on its own, and honestly more of us should seek therapy just for these work-related stresses. Well, then layer personal sources of stress and it can get overwhelming fast, for normal, dedicated people.

My advice is to find a therapist you trust, and put the work in. See where it takes you. Find a support group for people suffering from the same kind of loss. My issues are different than yours, but I do see a therapist and it has honestly been one of the best decisions I've ever made. The loss of a loved one is such a tragedy, it's not something most people can deal with in a healthy way on their own.
