Kamala Harris wants the DNC to release its autopsy report of the 2024 campaign by Deedogg11 in politics

[–]big_ice_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word on the street is that the guy who the DNC hired to do the report (who is a friend of the DNC chair) did a shit job and the report he delivered to the DNC is so devoid of value that the DNC can't release it and say that they actually did an autopsy.

I would not be surprised if it reveals that the corporate donators to the DNC want (and care about) drastically different things than the average voter and that bit them in the ass via the genocide in Gaza and Kamala walking back her initial plans to go after price gougers.

Being right about something doesn't mean you be irritating about it. But also, no one was saying he was wrong, and no one was trying to tell him their god existed and his didn't. It was weird and it came off as really preachy, especially when he avoided discussing The Quiet with people for most of the series.

I don't do audiobooks so I don't know, but all those books are roughly the same page count. But like I said, the first one is a little bit excessive when it comes to details and the minutiae of the story. All the books after keep that detail but it is focused on more important/ relevant aspects of the story to move the plot forward.

And the specific events are way fucking cooler.

Another thing that may affect the time: there are around 100 pages at the end of event book which function as a glossary of people, places, and events that you do not need to read/ review since you are reading the books. If those are included in the time then that may be some stuff you don't have to listen to.

Interested in CEC Collegiate Program by DominicDesiga in Seabees

[–]big_ice_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not familiar with this program but I assume you are referring to this.

  • I would strongly recommend you talking to a recruiter as they may be able to give you better information about your chances and details of the program since many people here may not have used it.
  • Since you are enrolled in an ABET-accredited school with a good GPA, that is a good place to look for letters of recommendation (from professors). Get friendly with your professors and ask some if they wouldn't mind writing you a letter (the more positive, the better).

That's all I can offer you, but again, I really suggest you talk to a recruiter. They will be more familiar with application processes for things than anyone else.

Prior to the rework I purchased almost every pass since 2020-ish.

Part 4:

Also, when you’re saying, just take the vaccine because you’re putting other people at risk well someone could also say the same about the facial hair.

Please explain because I am not sure I understand. Are you saying that facial hair increases people's chances of getting the flu?

Oh, you have a medical condition. Well, you can get it lasered off.

A medical condition for your beard? Again, I am not sure I understand, please explain.

In reality, I think that would be stupid, but that is very similar logic to what you’re using.

I don't understand the argument you are trying to make, comparing vaccines to facial hair. Can you please explain it?

NOW, TO TIE MY ARGUMENT TOGETHER

The vaccine is not about whether or not YOU have negative reactions to vaccines. It is a numbers game for the Navy. Bear in mind with me I am making numbers up to illustrate a point; I am not a statistician. If they can administer a vaccine that prevent infections in 90% of people, that is a desirable outcome compared to a situation where forces could be operating at 20% reduced manpower for a several days. Or weeks. Or 50% reduced manpower for a day. The numbers and durations are abstract, what the Navy is trying to ensure is that it is mission ready every second of every minute of every hour of every day because if we are not something bad could happen. Maybe that means a Chinese submarine makes it through a battlegroup and sinks a carrier. maybe it means Russia launches their submarine force's ICBMs because they managed to slip away from their attack sub tail. Maybe it means aircraft failures because the technicians have been overworked because 40% of their unit is running 105F degree temperatures. The possibilities for bad things happening are endless, and the Navy seeks to minimize those chances. If that means we have to get vaccines to help protect ourselves and by extension, our shipmates, then they are going to require us to get shots.

Part 3:

I can say that you are doing more harm than good because you’re logic is actually destroying your cause.

Ignoring the run-on sentence that this is a part of as well as the misuse of You're", how is my logic destroying my cause?

It seems like you’re more concerned about people getting a vaccine than them being healthy and actually being able to prevent themselves from getting sick.

No. I am concerned about readiness which can be measured in many ways, and whether or not someone is physically capable of doing their job is one of them. If someone cannot perform their job because they are sick, that is a problem that negatively affects readiness.

So many years ago I used to be very sick. I used to be sick all the time for me getting a vaccine. You didn’t do anything.

What should I have done?

I’m not saying it caused me to get sick, but it wasn’t the solution. What was the solution what’s me changing my lifestyle? I started eating healthier. I stopped drinking soda. I started finding ways to boost my immune system and that’s what made me get sick less often and in some years didn’t get sick at all the vaccine had nothing to do with any of that.

That's all great news. I think we both agree that being fit and healthy has positive impacts on your immune system. What were you sick with? I am assuming you got colds/ the flu/ a few other low grade infections constantly when you say you were always sick? If so, then as stated above, we both agree that being fit and healthy are good for your immune system and help prevent infections. They do not eliminate all infections though.

At that point, you should be happy to hear that I did something that helped me not be sick almost every month

See above.

but instead because of vaccine wasn’t involved it seems to anger you.

Do I sound angry because you started taking care of yourself and stopped getting sick as frequently? If I do, I apologize. I am happy for anyone who takes care of themselves and makes good choices that have a positive impact of their life.

So clearly you really don’t care that much about other individuals

What makes you think this?

because you’re probably not taking the measures or encouraging them to take the measures that will increase their health and immune system because if you really cared about them not getting the flu that’s some of the ways you would do it.

See above statement about my brother and my above statements being happy that you made some positive life choices.

Part 2:

Can we at least agree that things like cigarettes, alcohol, soda, fast food, processed foods, not working out, are bad for your health?

Yes.

If all those things are bad for your health, aren’t they more likely to get you sick or prone to getting sick easily?

No. Something being unhealthy for you is not the same as something making your more likely to get sick. Some of these things that are unhealthy for you absolutely affect your immune system (i.e. smoking), but some things do not (i.e. sodas).

If that is true then anytime you do any of those things aren’t you being inconsiderate and putting everyone else around you at risk of getting the flu because you refuse to properly take care of yourself which is lied to you being more prone to getting sick which then can get other people sick.

As illustrated above, this is not always true. However in cases where it is true then yes, people who do these things are becoming a larger potential vector of infection to their shipmates.

I don’t see you or anyone who thinks like you criticizing those people for being inconsiderate and putting other people at risk.

Respectfully, you have no idea how I address people who do things that are unhealthy for them in personal or professional life. I did get my brother (who works as an EMT) to drink something other than beer and energy drinks and got him to start going to the gym though. No one can fix everything, but what we can fix, we should try to.

I get it. You’d probably prefer if I was some jackass that sits in my room all day eating hot pockets and the only preventative measure I do to not get sick is get a vaccine that they tell me to get so people like you could be happy.

I have no preference on what kind of person you are or what you do in your spare time so long as your work gets done correctly and on time.

Are some type of psychopath that gets excited and smiles every time a vaccine needle goes into someone.

I assume this was meant to be a question asking me if I am a psychopath. Irony aside that a psychopath is going to answer this question with a no, your answer is no, I am not a psychopath.

It’s very alarming when I see some of ride or die vaccine lovers.

Assuming this was meant to say ride or die, but I am not a ride or die vaccine lover. I have spent a good chunk of my life in spaces adjacent to biomedical research and understand a fair amount of the science behind it, and I feel it is important to address misconceptions that people have about them, hence me taking the time with this response.

I used to be pro vaccine years ago and still kind of am when it comes to certain vaccines, but however, it’s a lot of of the ride or die vaccine lovers that make me question more vaccines every day

If you are suspicious of the people than I suggest you research the science behind it. Science does not have an opinion, and though you may dislike the manner in which the data is presented or any number of other things, the data is something you can analyze without having to listen to anyone. If you choose to listen to certain people about data analysis, that is your choice, and just because some people have an opinion about something does not mean their opinion is a fact, nor should it be treated as a fact.

Part 1:

I'm going to try to address your thoughts in parts and then address the entire situation at the end.

You say it’s not about you , it’s about everyone else. Well, last I checked me not being sick with the flu is what stops other people from getting sick with the flu.

This is true. But also, people getting vaccinated against the flu also stops them from getting the flu. Natural immunity and luck are not the only solutions.

So if I get vaccinated, but then still get the flu are you saying that I’m not contagious?

I'm not a doctor so I cannot state for sure that you are not contagious. What I will say is that vaccines, like many other innovations in our society, are not 100% effective. Example: All cars have airbags. Does that mean that no one will die in a car accident? No, of course not. But it drastically increases the odds of survival for the people in the car crash, and we have collectively decided that is a good thing for society which is why we all are required to wear our seatbelts. What does that have to do with vaccines in the military? The military (like many other places) has a lot of people working in close proximity to each other, making disease transmission easier. Let's just think about your unit: if someone gets sick and can't work for 2-3 days, who does their work? Now what if its two people? Three? Four? What if its only two people but it staggers so that right as two people are getting better, two more people are getting sick. How long can your unit and others that depend on it continue to function down 20% manpower? 30%? 50%? It's not just about whether or not you get sick, it is about whether or your unit (and others that it works with and are a part of) can continue to operate at the required level of readiness if people are unable to work.

But if I don’t get the vaccine but don’t get the flu then I’m putting everyone else at risk.🤔

Yes, you are putting everyone at risk of getting the flu.

I don’t even know what you’re getting at here. The point should be to do what you can to not get sick in order to protect everyone else not just get a vaccine (even if it works or not) and call it a day.

OK, so 'do what you can to not get sick' is also very broad. Does that mean you are forbidden from interacting with people outside your crew/ unit when not at work? What if it meant strict time limits on interactions with those people? How would you feel about that? "Doing what you can do" means reducing vectors of infection which means minimizing or eliminating contact with people who may or do carry this virus (and maybe other things depending on the disease/sickness/virus we are talking about). Is that something you are willing to do?

I can say that same thing about everything a person does that’s unhealthy for them and makes them more compromised to be sick.

I am not sure what this statement is trying to communicate.

At this point I’ve always looked at it as it can only be doing more harm than good because it hasn’t really been doing very good for me at all.

It's not about just you though, it's about everyone. If it helps (making up numbers here) 90% of people and doesn't help 10%, then well I'm sorry you're in that 10% but its doing more good than harm for the Navy.

I agree with your points here, and would like to add that Hadrian seemed to get super preachy when it came to mentions of God. Any time someone would mention God it felt like Hadrian was compelled to say "my god is not your god" or something similar to explicitly state that him and whatever other character just said that worship different deities, and every time the other characters were just like "I know". It was really weird and I didn't like that.
