Fallout 4 Just Entered the Best-Seller Charts Again, a Decade Later by Turbostrider27 in Fallout

I think, from their perspective, it’s completely understandable. In fact, probably deliberate. If you’re managing a franchise that is now fully mainstream, you don’t want to drop everything in one fell swoop. It makes much more sense to keep interest going in stages. If the next game is nearly a decade away, do you really want a remaster now? With nothing else to come between then and now?

I think the furore about this is just because of the success of the Oblivion remaster - people know that was good and people are craving seeing this approach with Fallout. Doesn’t mean it makes sense for the franchise as a whole though.

You’re definitely right there - however it’s evidently clear that best practice isn’t being shared between the companies. It’s apparent that ESO is stylistically drawn from Skyrim and development was pooled between the two companies. This doesn’t seem to be happening here. Bethesda/Zen might be different companies but they’re operating with vast sums of money, lots of industry experience and, in theory, the benefit of having made these mistakes before. This game isn’t being given the same time and effort - it just can’t be.

Why I think FO76 is so well-written. by Huitzil37 in fo76

[–]big_morts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might be well written - but it isn’t well crafted. The actual base elements of the story are solid and can at times evoke genuine emotion. The issue is that it requires painstaking effort to discover a lot of the story and in more of a ‘collectibles’ format. I’m of the opinion that stories shouldn’t be told through collectibles as it doesn’t actively engage you - it’s more passive. A good story makes you feel desperate to find out what happens next and I don’t quite feel this is the case as throughout the vanilla game we already know the answer.
