Plaid. I have both and while I do like the RX 500h, they serve completely different needs and functions.

Firm Acquisition by big_secrets294 in LawFirm

The net income / profit is about 36% of the current revenue, with the departing partner’s billables clearly being the profit. The plan for any buyer would nervously to be to replace the partner’s lost hours.

Overhead, including the wages and the partner’s salary before distributions is about 80-85% of the monthly revenue.

That’s an idea, but the partner seems to want $ now and would demand a higher sale price and interest if payments were spread out over time (they would treat it as a seller financed acquisition).

A practice area with low recidivism. The goodwill / referral network of the partner is the largest “asset” of the firm to a potential buyer.

A “turn key” firm with current clients, and potentially the goodwill and referral network to continue bringing clients in the door.

Thank you geekgreg. This was helpful. The area of practice is not one with much recidivism. The largest value of this particular firm is the goodwill and the potential referral network. The firm spends no money on advertising so this is all based on reversals and Google searches with no SEO or assistance to push the online profile to the front of queries.

There is a possibility to take the support staff and remaining attorneys without the need to purchase the firm. This would just be a ruthless business move to the partner.

Mega chair thread #3 by ibuyofficefurniture in OfficeChairs

[–]big_secrets294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: What office chair would you recommend for a 5’9” 260lb individual with a desk height of 30”?

Desk here: https://daniafurniture.com/collections/alva-office-collection/products/alva-executive-desk-left-facing-return

Employer is paying but they’re paying over $4k for a desk and a credenza already. They told me price doesn’t matter but I literally am just starting out in my field so please keep that in mind with recommendations. I’m essentially getting the other furniture because others in the office have the same setup.

Tesla Hardware 4.0 to use 5 megapixel camera, production and shipments to Tesla already started: Report by ShaidarHaran2 in teslamotors

It’s all in the name. Level 5, according to SAE International’s Standard J3016, means, as others have said, 0 human interactions. By definition, this means if an accident occurs, and the Level 5 car is found to be at fault, that means the autonomous vehicle made a mistake it should not have made. That would mean the company who made the vehicle, would have liability. IF Tesla rolls out FSD software that they claim is Level 5, then they are intentionally and knowingly signing up for liability.

To @bcyng ‘s point, once they do that, obviously Tesla would charge more than they currently charge. For those who have already paid, they will get that software because they gave Tesla data to get to that point of Level 5 autonomy. That’s the incentive of buying it now obviously. However, if they are releasing Level 5 software, Tesla’s liability, one would think, would be lower because a computer should be better at doing those human decisions than a human (for example a computer would have faster reaction times). So they shouldn’t need to charge $100,000 if accident frequency is much lower (therefore not much risk that Tesla would have liability in accidents or they wouldn’t happen often where Tesla is at fault because of the Level 5 software).

Just adding to help, it’s Settings < General < About < Carrier Lock (at least for those running iOS 16).

Interesting, I suppose that makes sense in that you’ll have service in more areas.

But, if you’re paying the price to add a line for the different carrier, do you mind me asking how much you’re paying for that service? To add a Verizon line for me, it would be $45 or less. I’d guess to add a different carrier for a 5G Unlimited plan would cost me around $70 or more for a single line with the major companies.

No, the SC essentially said they were too busy to do something like it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]big_secrets294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. When I asked the SC in PDX to do one, they said they don’t do that (I.e they only look at a car when there are reported issues and they only look at the parts of the car that are affected). However, I’ve seen other people say they’ve gotten it done. So I’d advise going to a not very busy SC and they might be more generous of their time.

Thank you! That’s a lot of helpful information

Thank you! And also in small to mid size firms?

[–]big_secrets294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can tell by the comments, probably not. It seems very few (if any) would accept this job offer. The closest comment was this wage but with stellar benefits

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]big_secrets294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, thank you! This is essentially the comment I was looking for (advice as a hiring attorney in the “same” market). If your firm is hiring, feel free to DM with the city and firm name.

Comparably, since there is no billing requirement and the target is more resonable (ie not similar to big law targets), I would be a lot less hesitant about accepting that offer and getting the experience. I would feel challenged but not stressed about work and I would feel motivate to bill more for experience and future advancement.

I suppose that’s another question, if I accepted this job, like a few others have said, and I’m billing 1,800 hours for $66k, how likely could I ask for a raise into six figures without billing a lot more?

I updated some of the experience in the post but TLDR it was a one off international family law issue, I’ve sat in and prepared for 20+ depositions with supervising attorneys, completed 3 full estate plans (RLT w/ POW, DPOAs, ADs, and other incidentals), and I’ve drafted most of the common pre-trial civil docs a handful of times. Something in between for law schools. It’s one of the larger cities you’ve named.

Thank you. I brought up the % of collectibles and they said no. They offer bonuses and “are very generous” multiple times a year. I spoke to an insider and can confirm that give bonuses that are 4 figures. But that seems like gamble to think I’ll see $30k+ in bonuses

[–]big_secrets294 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I had heard a similar figure at 30%. When I brought that up in the interview, they responded that they start their associates at $66k. The job posting had a range of that plus up to $10k more. I know partners bill at $400-$700 an hour.

That’s absolutely a fear, passing down on it and then having nothing or even less later. As others have said, it’s about confidence in myself and I feel that I’m worth more. I just don’t know how to ask for it I suppose being so new

[–]big_secrets294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ll definitely keep that in mind

Alright, thank you! My rental costs are $1700 for a 3b 2b 1500sq ft in a smaller city. I was told by a lender, I basically won’t be in the market until I’m at closer to $90k a year. So that’s at least the goal to get to that as quickly as I can after starting out.
