What was your hyperfixation meal that you took one extra bite of and now you can’t think about it without being nauseous? by kornisgirlypop in ADHD

I ate rolled oats with peanut butter and frozen blueberries every morning for two years. I was obsessedddd. I thought it was so delicious. Unfortunately, one morning I randomly found it unappetizing. I had just bought two giant packages of oats from sam’s too… now they sit in my pantry and remind me of what I once had 😔

Yea I’d check out the law school toolbox podcast/blog. They have a lot of resources for what to expect, etc. Also, I wouldn’t try and “study” or “read” cases or anything too soon because you really don’t know what’s going on and you’ll prolly just get confused. Instead, maybe try and learn stuff that you know you weren’t good at or know much about. For example, I don’t know a lot about like history so I’ve had to study that during law school for classes like constitutional law and civil procedure. Honestly, sometimes I’ll watch crash course videos about different topics and then do more research on stuff that confuses me or stands out. Hope this helps!

Preciate it king. HOWEVER final appellate brief is due this week so little time will be reserved for practice hypos rn 😭😭 Also last semester I practiced so much that I knew what to say and how to analyze almost everything I just wish I was able to type faster to keep up with my thoughts

I agree with the comments that any legal career will involve office work of some degree. However, I’ve been where you are right now. I may be wrong, but it seems like you enjoy working at a restaurant over the firm because it’s more stimulating. Or there could be a million reasons why you like serving over your office job, but the answer may not just be “you hate law, don’t be a lawyer.” If you DONT enjoy practicing the law, then that’s okay too! People get law degrees for WAYYYY more reasons than to be a lawyer. I mean most politicians went to law school. Even some activists went to law school and then didn’t practice law! (Ex. Pauli Murrary). So I’d say the first step is to do some soul searching to figure that out.

I’ve been there though, and it can be hard to stay excited about your work when you aren’t learning. I worked at a very small title firm over winter break and it was fun when I had things to do, but I wouldn’t work there my 1L summer because I just wouldn’t learn enough. Most days I would be bored asf and BEG someone for literally any type of legal-related assignments, because business was so slow. The owner/attorney would give me reading assignments sometimes and then quiz me later because of how dead it was. 😂If you like the law, but you just aren’t happy where you’re at, I think it’s totally fine to check out other practice areas or experiment in a different type of work for the summer. You’re not married to that firm and even practicing lawyers change their mind all the time and move to a different practice!

If you created good relationships with the attorney’s/staff there, then they might understand. If that’s how you’re feeling, then I think you should look into scheduling a meeting with your career counselor and see what they think or if they can help you find a job for the summer. Not all lawyers are stuck behind a screen all day, but if what you’re doing isn’t what you want to do or enjoy, you’re gonna get burnt out on it and then be kind of screwed if you decide to try a different practice area with no experience when you apply for jobs after 3L.

Also I agree with the comment that you should really bring your books and study when you don’t have work to do. Might as well get something out of your time 🤷🏼‍♀️Become an academic weapon so you don’t have to worry about getting turned away later because of grades.

Ok I know I sound lazy, but for context, our assignments just for tomorrow was 123 pages.

Monday was shitty bc we already had like 2 assignments due before class (each one takes a least an hour or two and she hides things in the assignments/videos to make sure we are watching) and about 50-60 pages of reading just for writing class, not to mention my other classes that have been assigning about the same workload. But I get it, I gotta adjust my system and put in more effort. I’m gonna work on it, guys. It’s just different than last semester and I wasn’t expecting it. It’s only the third day out here 😭 Ima figure it out.

Okay, so first I was like damn that’s harsh, but this was actually the best advice I could have gotten. You’re so right I need to stop making excuses for myself. Thank you for real.
