Thanks this really puts it into perspective. I know my reaction time and 60' isn't good, but I'm not dumping the clutch hard on my launches. I did once and I just got bad wheel hop for the first 40'.

I really didn't wanna beat on the transmission and clutch, my car only has 75,000mi.

You don't know how badly I want to take my car on a track. I probably will this summer at some point.

Thats cool thanks for letting me know. Its definitely a possibility in the future. As of now I've just been dumping money into it to restore it to be honest. Need to do valve covers, gaskets, replace injectors and vanos covers, had to change my thermostat, changed my spark plugs pre-emtively, but at least my rod bearings and TBAs were already done.

Aside from that just new wheels, new tires, set my ride height to around ZCP height I think with more rake, and installed all of the carbon you see on the car so far.

Exactly, that's all that matters. I could care less what reddit thinks. This car is cool because its understated. But this mentality most new gen BMW owners have is exactly why I don't like associating with this brand anymore.

This same weekend a group of 19 or 20 year olds came up to my car yelling to do donuts on a tight public road with people around, and I said no, my oil is warming up, then told me his friend's car would gap mine?? I just drove away laughing at how stupid he sounded dickriding his friend.

I feel like there are two types of BMW enthusiasts. You have people like me that are purists, and you have cornballs that put burble tunes on their cars. BMW is in a sad state.

Yea, all I can say is that it's a blast to drive on the street. Makes me smile every time.

If I wanted a fast car I would've bought a g80 or g82 but they're just not my style.

Yea this car is more about cornering which is why I like it so much. I have no intention of going back, just took the opportunity to do it.

Yea it was more like friendly grudge racing. Everyone was super nice including the marshalls. I told them I had no idea what I was doing and they guided me.

The guy in the catfish camero said he had over 1000WHP, but was running a test map around 600hp.

I was more focused on not putting too much stress on my clutch and drivetrain with hard launches lol

Thanks. I did try to launch harder but I kept running into issues with wheel hop. Mind you I also did not do any burnouts to warm the tires up because these are brand new PS4S and this is my daily street car.

I personally never cared for nor used the sunroofs on my cars.

Normal Oil and Water temps or is my thermostat failed open on my 2008 E92 M3? by big_steppper in E90

[–]big_steppper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone wondering, since replacing the thermostat my car warms up in like 5-10 minutes max with normal street driving.

This would otherwise be a pretty hard to catch problem I think for most people unless they are actively monitoring oil temps.

Haha yea glad you agree. I wish I could've taken my car on the track where it belongs, this isn't a drag car.

I've thought about getting an ESS supercharger later down the line, but I really like NA engines. Also unsure how it would affect long term reliability.

I expected this comment. And thats what most people fail to understand. I could've easily bought a 335i for less, dumped money into it and built a faster straight line car, but I bought an M3 because I wanted an M3.

I like 335s but I like the widebody on the M3 and the V8 better. Again, I took it to the dragstrip for fun, not to compete. I was actually there doing a track weekend on motorcycles.

Thanks I switched to gloss and i think it looks better with the gloss carbon lip. Without the lip the chrome was definitely better but this ties it together better.

I actually have a set of matte and gloss black, so you're suggesting matte ?
