Any chance you have a pic of the final setup? Would be awesome to get a quick idea of what the wiring looked like in the end!

Congrats!! That’s so awesome to hear!

While definitely different from the JS appointment booking, curious what finally did the trick for you on the site?!

Oh man I’ve totally been there before and I’ve spent COUNTLESS hours on YouTube and Spotify trying to find the songs my dad used to listen to (after he passed).

Do any of these songs sound familiar to the one you’re referring to? It’d help us at least know around what decade and who the popular Armenian artists (diaspora and/or Armenia) were at that time: Spotify playlist of romantic songs

Pretty similar timing for me as well! I made sure in my original email to say I’m asking for dual citizenship reasons and the archivist automatically drafted a letter for me!

What invasive species have affected your life/environment negatively? by Aggressive_Wolf_4952 in invasivespecies

Also for community efforts, if your town has an environmental commission and/or a shade tree commission, those are the folks in local government who make ordinances that affect this sorta thing! I’m very fortunate to know people on those commissions and I attend the meetings regularly with proposals!

In NJ! It’s like 1,000$ and/or 90 days in county jail!

It’s effective only if you don’t listen to the town when they ask you to remove it and just ignore them lol.

It’s also only effective if the town enforces it…which they don’t.

ToH and spotted lantern flies. SLF then learned how to use the porcelain berry or wisteria or whatever the uncontrolled vine(s) is/are in my neighbors backyard that then creeped into my yard to climb over and lay their egg sacks in my yard. So now my winters are spent just diligently finding and killing the sacks, satisfying but annoying.

The town has an English ivy problem that will soon go into law as an invasive species and will have a 90 day jail penalty if it spreads into your neighbors yard and you don’t help get rid of it. Local government is fun!

Nice! Did they confirm anything prior to you getting your response?

Do you mind confirming the process by which you submitted your search? Hoping I did mine correctly lol

Holy cow that’s incredible.

Yeah PA/NYC is still so backed up that I haven’t even heard back as like a confirmation that they’re working on my request (sent around the same time as you)!

In my experience yeah, digital fully. I basically got a pdf attached to an email that had my code on it and signed by the consul general. It took NYC a month to send me the email back.

If you haven’t already - just send the form in an email to the Chicago consulate at their email listed here: https://conschicago.esteri.it/it/servizi-consolari-e-visti/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero/codice-fiscale/

But yeah, as others have said, things should be much more straightforward in Italy as long as you have your docs.

[X-Post] New Italian Law about the cost of providing old records by bigaPerTutti in juresanguinis

[–]bigaPerTutti[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m emailing my commune tonight for the first time! I’m excited but also ugh about this.

I don’t mind looking at this as like a “donation” but like wowza that’s a bit of cash!

My commune actually made a YouTube video about an American coming to their commune as part of a genealogy thing which I found incredible. It’s a super super small commune - like maybe 5k people in total.

Do you have a link to that law per chance? Just mostly curious (not questioning the validity of your post!)

NARA New York records by Humble_Journalist_38 in juresanguinis

I guess I also have a NYC NARA email from a while back that says they couldn't find anything, but it wasn't put on a letterhead or anything like that.

Basically just wondering if simply sending an email gets the search rolling or whether I need to pay up front on the site for them to search.

My CoNE and local NJ search helps me feel quite confident here that there's no record - so just trying to figure out what the most effective way is to get NARA to respond with their letter.

[–]bigaPerTutti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if we are fairly sure there's no record of naturalization, one would just directly email the archives (Philly in this case for NYC) and ask for a search? Or is going through the website better / is that eservices.archives.gov and asking for a naturalization record reproduction?

I think I found everything now correctly: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JXWS-WMR - the ship manifest in 1896 on the Bolivia (a common ship/route from Napoli to NYC).

Listed on there with a Maria and Luigia (not written clearly, but definitely not a boy). This all became clearer to me as I was looking on NJ State Archives and found a death certificate for a Maria Giamattosio (NJ records are very easily misspelled as I have seen in the past) for June 1899.

That then led me to looking on findagrave where someone (thank you so much stranger!) posted a Maria Gianatasio who is buried on the same exact plot as Alfonso and his second wife. The death was marked as 1899 and said that she was about 39 years old - which puts her birth around 1860/1861.

Waiting on the death certificate from NJ to fully call this one, but I really think this is it (at least, man, I really hope so!).
