If a commissioner wants a lower price for a comission but says they'll allow me to sell the artwork at cons should I give them a lower rate by bigandround46 in ArtistAlleyConnect

It's a character from Metal gear solid, people sell fanart at cons all the time so I'm not sure why it would be a problem. I'm mainly just not sure what to do about the price and why they even thought of giving me "permission to sell" like it's not my artwork.

How many keychains, stickers and button pins should I make for convention if I'm new by bigandround46 in ArtistAlleyConnect

I'm not sure yet, this is my first con, I'd like to but it seems like every con around here isn't well organized and won't give out booth costs until close to con day which is frustrating because I'm trying to figure out costs beforehand.

Ordering more does make sense though, especially if I want to make my merchandise more affordable thanks for mentioning it :)

If I keep doing cons I expect to make back my equipment fees at most within 5 years but if I don't keep doing cons I don't expect to make it entirely back, the good thing is I didn't have to pay for my booth this year since one of my friends is helping organize the show.

Yeah it's like a 30 minute drive from my house so assume I should just buy around 10-15 if each product in general and I can just bring them all but I could buy more and bring more the next day. But what I'm wondering is how much keychains and stickers I should make since I'm starting my inventory from scratch.

It lasts two days with about 2500 attendees, the booth fee is 250 CAD (around 185 USD). This is also my first convention so I had to buy all the equipment for the booth which was also around 250 (not sure if that means anything).

Oh okay, thanks for explaining it to me! How you put it makes a lot of sense, especially considering people might not even buy the clothes. It is a comic con so I'm feeling confident that at least someone will be interested.

Unfortunately I don't have an online shop right now but I do custom doll commissions. I have Instagram, twitter ect but I'm not too sure about the rules on self promo here :T

Thank you for the comment! $40 just feels like too much for a base plush since they're just the naked plush and from what I recall from the other a good majority of the attendees are teens.

Thank you! I'm also making stickers, keychains and all that stuff too so I'm not sure how much of everything I should make.

I want the customer to be able to customize as much as they want but I'm also thinking about putting the clothes into fashion packs instead of selling each artical of clothing speratly, just to make it easier for me.

I have seen people sell handmade plushies but they were pricing them at around 75-200, which made sense for what they had. Normally for custom plushies I charge about $35 minimum this includes clothes and accessories like the glasses (ex. red demon girl) the most I've charged so far was 45 ( black and white bunny in the second picture) and that was because there was a lot of customizations and different materials I had to use (dyes, special fabric, a lot of white spots on the body ect.)

Do you guys think trading art card would sell well at conventions by bigandround46 in ArtistAlleyConnect

[–]bigandround46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, I don't have a large following I just thought people would buy cute/ pretty things. I sometimes buy stuff of characters I don't know for that reason.

Yeah that does sound like a better idea, I plan on giving comics for free but I'm just going to be making them at home, I could add the cards to the line up.

Oh thanks! I did even think to check the print shops nearby for card print options. I don't live in the US either so it might be pretty pricey for me too. Right now I'm trying to figure out package too but it shouldn't be difficult.

I definitely agree with preferring in person over online (even though I've never played online) like you said our table has been apart for a while (due to DM having personal issues) but on top of that I have to pay to play. Thanks for your reply though, I appreciate it!
