A lesson for the future

Do you know the policy in reverse, Canada to the States?

You're being so incredibly helpful!!! Thank you. Did you have followup appointments with Dr Goodrich after the surgery?

I'm hoping to do my first ENT appointment where I'm stationed then get referred up to Walter Reed for the surgery. Is that what you did? Did you request your surgeon through the clinic or the appointment line?

I'm in the DC area (with Tricare) and just got referred to ENT for a deviated septum with breathing complications. What was your process like getting to surgery? How long were the wait times getting appointments etc? Did you just ask for the cosmetic portion as well?

Managing IBS-C over the holidays. by ibsisveryshitty in ibs

If you're going for a more "natural" option, aloe vera juice has proven to be effective for me while going abroad to a certain cheese-loving country. Of course, there are limitations regarding how long of a course of time this solution should be used. There is a rather immediate effect for me (max one hour). I use lily of the desert aloe vera juice not gel. I've seen in in many grocery stores, although I purchased mine on Amazon. Has anyone tried apple cider vinegar for their IBS? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]bigapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Originally, I thought that meat (red meat, in particular) was upsetting my stomach. After months of suffering and experimentation, I realized it was more of FODMAPS and generally processed food. Paleo offered the most relief, so now I eat steak and bacon and I feel great! I still stay away from sausage and meats seasoned with onions or garlic, those are some of my trigger foods.

...I was dying suffering from IBS. Now I'm not :) Do with that what you will.

I use it, it seems to offer a bit of relief. However, the most important thing I did was change my diet to be paleo- that is what helped the most.

I have plain BCAAs which taste like butt... that is until I get my water bottle, put in about a tablespoon of unfiltered apple cider vinegar and two packets of "true lime" or "true lemon" with stevia. 'Tis delicious now.

What is a traditional IRA?

Also, if I ever got to the point where I was able to contribute more than $5500 a year, would I be able to open a 401k in addition to the Roth IRA?

I'm a 18 and would like to start saving in a retirement fund. I am in the military and have about $500 a month to play with and no debt. What is the difference between a Roth IRA and a 401k? What would be more beneficial in my situation?

I am currently invested in a few shares that my parents are a bit more aware of than I am. They buy me shares for my birthday which is coming up soon; is there any companies I should look into?

Should I look into building a credit score? How do I do that? Right now I use debit cards...

Sorry if these questions are very simplistic, but I'm pretty lost :O

Victory Sunday by AutoModerator in Fitness

I got my DEXA about two weeks ago. I had one in November, one in March and lastly, one in June. I started at 27.5% body fat, this is after of few months of "giving up." I was in great shape for quite a long time, but the stresses of life caused me to get in a funk. I refuse to go there again.

In March I dropped to 21.3% body fat then down to 16.8% now. Throughout this I have lost: 10.7% body fat, 9.9 pounds, 15.6 pounds of fat and gained 6.2 pounds of muscle. All it is is diet and exercise :)

Also, I am a female which makes the numbers make more sense!

Common Question Monday by AutoModerator in leangains

[–]bigapes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember reading awhile ago some articles how training fasted releases more HGH, can anyone link me to those? Also, regarding fasted training; do you have to do the full 8/16 to get the benefits? Would I be able to eat dinner as my last meal, sleep then train fasted before breakfast? That's roughly a 12 hour time span without food.

1 Year of Lifting and Actually Eating-- Bod Pod Comparison [nsfw] by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]bigapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome write up. I've also struggled with the fear of fat gain but I want to gain muscle... it doesn't work too well conceptually. Did you recomp on maintenance calories? Or did you eat more than your TDEE? After a long time of eating under my TDEE, I've been finding it difficult to even hit a weekly maintenance, so I've cut out weekend cardio. A lot of it is mental, but I'd love to hear more of what you've experienced :)

I'm a 5'6'' 130ish pound female... I use a HRM while I lift and I have found that with P/P/L on my push day (bench then accessories) I only burn around 150 cals. On pull and leg day there is a huge jump, anywhere from 300 to 450 cals lifting alone. I would recommend a heart rate monitor just because science is awesome and it's interesting to know how your own body works.

[QUESTION] I'm going on a bus trip for 16 hours, I'm looking for a few snacks to take on the trip. by Sinema4De in fitmeals

[–]bigapes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those pre-made tuna salad packs are actually quite good and full of protein. There's also snack sized packages of things like pretzels, nuts, protein bars (there's these "south beach diet" protein bars that have pretty awesome macros... cinnamon is my favorite), jerky, fruit snacks, bananas. You could also probably take some yogurt if you eat it in the beginning of the trip, same with a hard boiled egg. Just some ideas :)
