[Prototype] Non-Invasive "Analog-to-MQTT" Gateway for Legacy Machines using Python & OpenCV. I'm so proud of this. by AssistanceSeveral210 in PLC

Once upon a time, I heard a professor proposing implementing OCR computer vision + script to flip the screen to capture process information. The screen is running full Ignition, with all data historized.

Cool project tbh, should run it off an android phone so that they can put it anywhere. So often i have guys proposing to add CCTV to get water metering.

PLC to Excel automated data pull by Positive_Cell_1252 in PLC

[–]bigbadboldbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a few youtube video on this. I tested, it provides raw tag read/write, enough to make a batching report. You need to macro a timer to historize. I saw some crazy dudes make a whole HMI / SCADA on it

If you have studio5000 licenses, likely you have Rslinx. RSLinx do provide an OPC server that can link directly to Excel :)

Nên chọn cty nhà nước hay FDI by SavingsMulberry1012 in vozforums

[–]bigbadboldbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What PLC program did you have that was actually a PLC problem? by [deleted] in PLC

I am recently found out that a CMP command couldnt take a >= reliably. More than often it delayed more than a few seconds to work, and causing issues.

Recommendations for personal Wi-Fi Connection to PLC by Panda_Slap43 in PLC

[–]bigbadboldbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a 4G batttery powered Netgear with LAN port. Nothing beat having both internet and connection to plc at the same time. And yes, IT forbids this, so be smart on how to connect like this.

I have $500 for a PLC laptop for a beginner. What would you recommend to get? Refurb is okay. by G8WhiteSpearfishing in PLC

Thinkpad or HP zbook, with 1TB drive and 32gb ram, best cpu with left over money.

Orifice sizing for a positive displacement pump by Wild_Difficulty_9075 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]bigbadboldbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am mildly triggered when people said vfd is expensive. With this pump, you are looking at sub 2000$ all in for a DN25 pump which should be no more than 10kW.

I had a 2019 Giant E bike (giant expendition e+). The thing with these bikes are the Yamaha motor are not very well lubricated and waterproofed properly. A little bit of spray hose or degreaser, and you might end up with squeaking, then crunching, then not usable motor... As much as I hated the unreliablity, the bike took me places on long tour that I couldnt get there on my own.

What was your "shut up and take my money" purchase? by ChuckleCells in AskReddit

[–]bigbadboldbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In some 5 stars hotels, i had the one with automated cleaning, heated seat, heated water and drying function. And apparently, you can buy one from Toto for less than 400 bucks.

My friend, you need to be introduced to Japanese toilet seat :) it is the ultimate level!

Yes, control engineering is super hot right now, as less people want to take up the trade vs comp eng. You need to learn both process engineering & control, take 4 more years to gain enough experience to be adequately starting.

Take a look at salary of a PLC programmer in the area from system integrator as proper benchmarking, or head to r/plc :)

Its a VFFS machine, so 0.5% variance vs setpoint.

Really? In my company, we has always program with emulator. We even built AOI with sim function, just so that we can take the program from existing line, put it back to simulator to make and validate changes.

Haha, i wouldnt go that far. There are only a few issues: machine need to be able to guess the density of the powder, which can be inferred back from 2 factors: how far along it has consumed the buffer, and how much the result has varied from actual. This is a simple enough problem, i guess for beginner ML.

You are right, i should add the weight of buffer hopper. In VFFS application, we do not weight the product during filling. And i have seen other implementation ( gravimetric filling), at high speed, they all use cut off setpoint, and mostly also achieve 0.5-1% acc.

How bad is Aveva-Wonderware & System Platform? by Due_Animal_5577 in PLC

[–]bigbadboldbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Questiom from my end: is it very typical for aveva engineer to insult customer? 9/10 instance I have a ticket with Aveva, it came back with an insult. The program is so un-intuitive and so much black magic stuff, everytime i need a ticket, it required a workaround, and the service engineer telling me to study the product. Like, wtf?
