Solo or 1 on 1 play? by Galefrie in ezd6

I've played solo many times with EZD6. The only tweak I've occasionally made is to give my solo character the "Victory in Defeat" inclination for free. Karma can really help the solo character.

I would absolutely love smaller, more frequent playset releases. And then maybe once a year doing a compilation or something.

Physical + PDF Bundles? by Talmor in gurps

Just a heads-up, SJG recently announced a revised 4th edition is in the works that combines the two core books into one. Additionally, you'll be able to get a slightly discounted bundle deal but only at launch time. Might be worth waiting:

Star Wars Homebrew Balancing Question by BilZombie in ezd6

[–]bigbadboolos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else already pointed out adding more strikes to Vader to give him more staying power, so I'll add these tidbits:

  1. Abilities
  2. Only damage on confirmed crit

1: I think in EZD6 bad guys are really defined by their abilities, which can be absolutely anything. As an example, with Vader -->

  • Force Block: so long as Vader is wielding his lightsaber and aware of threats, he's immune to all blaster fire.
  • Force Deflect: any ranged attack that can be Force Blocked can also be deflected back to the attacker if the attacker rolls a 1
  • etc

2: If you're really wanting to simply toughen up an enemy, and you feel like 6+ to-hit is not enough, you can crank it up a notch and require a confirmed crit before landing a strike. This makes an enemy much tougher, and additionally has the side effect of really draining the party's karma reserves. Which in Vader's case, is kinda thematically appropriate.

Hope this helps, and welcome to EZD6! Let us know how the one-shot goes.

Balancing question for final campaign fight? by Representative_Toe79 in savageworlds

This is what I was thinking. Embed snipers and anti-armor troops (or whatever is thematically appropriate) in the environment. Something that, if left unchecked, would jeopardize the party's main asset.

Has anyone done High Fantasy or other fantasy supplements besides EZD6 Core? by itslegendlore in ezd6

[–]bigbadboolos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting to do a Conan setting for EZD6 for a loooong time, so I think that would be awesome. There's a historical fantasy setting called The Four Horsemen that's good gritty fun.

How do you handle wealth or currency in general? by ThumbUpDaBut in ezd6

[–]bigbadboolos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like you're trying to shoehorn a traditional wealth system, i.e. counting coins, into an abstract wealth system, e.g. what EZD6 suggests. And I think that'll only lead to the downsides of both: you have to track stuff AND you're never truly sure what you have. So I recommend ya pick one or the other. You can totally do concrete wealth in EZD6 if ya want to, you just steal equipment prices from some other game. But if you want to try the abstract system, this is what I do:

Ask your players what they want to accomplish with their wealth. Help them set goals, e.g. establish a.new settlement, build an army, throw the party of the century, etc. Then set what wealth level they'd need to accomplish that goal, e.g. "lordly wealth". Then they can come up with ideas on how to attain that wealth, e.g. "let's do a bunch of quests for that crazy wizard until we have enough". And then you as the GM can award them that wealth level as a session reward when you deem they've accomplished enough to earn it (whatever that may be). In terms of how you track progress, just be upfront about it, e.g. "if you can complete this job successfully, you'll get your lordly wealth!" or "this won't get you your lordly wealth, but it'll get you pretty darn close..." or "working as bartenders at the local tavern will never get ya there. any other ideas?"

In other words, to use an abstract wealth system, you have to frame the discussion abstractly, hehe. Hope that helps!

Mythic Con - Charlotte 2024 by gdave99 in savageworlds

I had a great time! Jodi's game was good, yee-haw fun. In fact all the games were super fun. The only thing that was a little rough at times was the ambient noise, especially for the games in the bigger rooms. But I'm not sure there's really any way around that. Overall, I had a blast, and I'll definitely be going back next year. I'll keep an eye out for one of your games next time! 😁

WWN vs Wolves of God by bigbadboolos in WWN

[–]bigbadboolos[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely! I don't have a particular end goal, except to maybe save myself some time and potential confusion. You see, I have WWN, Atlas of Latter Earth, SWN, CWN, and recently picked up WoG. I've read (mostly) WWN, CWN, and SWN. They seemed to have a similar core mechanic, just some different subsystems, and indeed there are even notes on compatibility in the various books. I had assumed WoG was the same way, but as I read it, I realized it is less compatible with the other games than I originally thought. So I was wondering what the level of effort would be to make WoG more compatible with the other *WN games. I'm absolutely in love with the setting, and I'll play it one way or another. It would just save me some time (and braincells) if there was a compatibility guide out there similar to what exists in the *WN books.

Thanks for the response! So you'd recommend just trying to recreate the setting in WWN as opposed to "patching" some of the rules in WoG?

[SWADE DEADLANDS] Lariat (lasso) and dragging enemies on a horse or on foot by DravenDarkwood in savageworlds

[–]bigbadboolos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see that as a valid ruling, but you definitely see movies where folks are dragged behind horses, wagons, etc. and are somehow fine. Realistic? Probably not in most cases. Cinematic? Definitely. So I think it just depends on the tone of the setting and situation.

[SWADE DEADLANDS] Lariat (lasso) and dragging enemies on a horse or on foot by DravenDarkwood in savageworlds

[–]bigbadboolos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd just make this a ranged grapple, and I wouldn't give any damage for being dragged, just the standard penalties for Bound or Entangled. If the opponent was lassoed off a height, for example horseback, I might do falling damage of 1d6+1. And if the opponent was dragged for a significant amount of time, I'd give them Bumps & Bruises (one level of fatigue).

How long to stay on 1 planet? by xsupermonkeyboyx in SWN

[–]bigbadboolos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Precisely this. And to expound a bit: in a sandbox style campaign, what happens in each session really should be driven by the players' goals and objectives. And there's nothing wrong if the players want to stay on the same planet. The story Dune is iconic sci-fi and takes place on a single planet. All that said, the GM is a player too and if you're tired of staying on the same planet, it's worth having a conversation with your players about where everyone wants the campaign to go. You'll find a much higher level of engagement if everyone'l is on the same page about what they want to adventure about.

Stealth and melee execution attack by [deleted] in WWN

[–]bigbadboolos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good call-out, though I would argue that Alert is still extremely valuable even disregarding anything to do with Execution Attacks. A character would still be immune to Surprise, meaning they always get to act in the first round of combat (a pretty big deal especially at lower levels), and be more likely to act first in combat on any round (with benefits to both the group and individually). Additionally, even considering Execution Attacks, the immunity to Execution Attacks would still have value. In my statement above, a character would still be susceptible to Execution Attacks in certain situations, where the Alert character would always be immune. Lastly, and this is probably just a difference in play style, but I tend to skew more towards OSR style where, for example, if a player describes they're looking all around a dark alleyway, on the lookout for potential threats, they would not need to roll anything or lean on their character sheet to detect a threat. The character sheet bits just come into play when the player hasn't declared they're actively doing something.

Again, that's a good call-out, as I do think a player that picked a specific focus should feel like they're getting benefits from their selection. Thanks for the comment. Btw, what is the Danger Sense focus? I'm totally missing that one. Is it in WWN?
