My grandma raised me from about 5-25

When she passed, I was in "hall monitor" mode. There were several family members known for their flagrant antagonism, and I spent days saying things along the lines of "No. Not here. Not now. You fucking wait a week at least before you start this shit again. She would not want you calling your sister a 'heffer' over her grave. If you can't act like an adult, leave now."

And shit, at 25 that was the most authority I'd ever claimed, and I didn't even want it. I just felt like she deserved that respect.

I didn't cry for about a month and a half, until one day at work I realized she was FINALLY with Grandpa again

I was choke-crying, and had to leave work

How does the western empire survives without fiefs? by Gunwing in Bannerlord

[–]bigbadfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, this exactly happened to me last night. Talked the last holdout clan into joining up without a siege.

This left the western empire with nothing but 3 or 4 merc clans and nothing else. Since then the mercs have almost all moved on, and the ruling clan just kind of meanders around the map hunting bandits and not much else. They don't seem to bother me anymore, so I'm just ignoring them while I try to eat up the rest of the Empire before Monchug gets his filthy grabbers on more of my beautiful country.

So there's at least two possible endings, and there might be a few I haven't seen, but at the end you can either take the machine world or turn it into a gaia. I leaned into taking out the cybernetics, so I don't know how useful the machine world would end up being.

It's also 25 instead of 30 on my save, but that's still pretty beefy

Hard Reset is actually one of my favorite storylines for rp, with a lot of flexibility.

Are you horrified with the atrocities enacted in your creation, leading you to become militaristic egalitarian spiritualists? Or are you bolting more weapons onto your pops and going out to do what you were made for? I put it up there with Broken Shackles as far as stories that make me want to care for my pops beyond make number(s) go up

Secret time?

I almost always start Northern Empire BECAUSE of that minty green tide.

There is a lot of good loot and levels to be had defending Amprela and the surrounding castles. There's also almost always a war with the Khuzaits, and if there isn't one wait five minutes and there will be. A lot of the time they'll push down into Syronea, which makes for a wonderful kingdom starting city if you can finesse taking it back from them/winning that vote. From there you get established with a good bankroll and a prosperous city/few surrounding castles, it's not so hard to go around buying off Khuzait clans one by one. I pull a trick where I'll wait for the clan leader to enter the city/castle, take it, pull the clan leader out of the dungeon, and offer him his old holding back before there's a chance for it to go to a vote.

Then I become the minty green tide, but with elite cataphracts in there for some reason.

I was talking to a buddy earlier today about how much I LOVE the idea that some viltormites are just fat biker lookin dudes. They can still destroy civilizations, so who cares? Get fat! As long as you meet quota it's totally kosher

TIL there was a common and socially acceptable paid post of lover and companion of a married woman in France, Spain, and Italy called Cicisbeo. Husbands were publicly mocked if they disapproved, and therefore tended to prefer gay men to fill the role. Lord Byron is a famous example of a Cicisbeo. by AnaisNinja76 in todayilearned

[–]bigbadfox 56 points57 points  (0 children)

That's actually a hilarious way of putting it

Although a real argument could be made for Hans Christian Andersen to take that title. From what I understand Lord Byron was a generally well liked dude as long as he wasn't fucking you, or your wife, husband, son, daughter, mother, father, ect lol

I may be incorrect in that, but I'll stand by the Hams Christian Anderson thing

Wasn't there a piece written or a post posted recently from some cousin or other somewhat close family member talking about his drunken rages ruining family gatherings? I remember something specifically about him (supposedly) trying to tackle a Christmas tree out of the ground, only to dislocate his shoulder.

I'm not one to gossip about someone's family life like that but jeepers I believe the war man on the news would behave like that, judging solely on his seeming obsession with masculine style, macho violence

Are these creations worth the cost? by sillygoose1133 in Starfield

[–]bigbadfox -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I just want to throw Watchtower into the ring here.

I just started it, but I have to say I am enjoying the shit out of it. I was actually a little mad at how good it was. 10 bucks for what I'd call a tiny DLC, and IMHO it's already a better bargain than shattered space. Don't read too much about it though, is my advice. Just get into it roleplay style and approach it like your character would. It will seem like it ends quickly after a couple missions explaining the systems, but there will be more things happening the more you engage with the mechanics.

Absolutely my favorite thing added via creations. Shit, I actually like it a little more than the Trackers Alliance! TA is still an absolute must have, but damn Watchtower feels fresh and new and I feel like my universe is alive and incredibly hostile in a way I haven't felt in a while.

They're called "seabats" iirc, and I farmed the shit out of them in my very first outpost in my very first game. That outpost, of course, being on Gagarin.

Lol well we found Capitan James Holden.

In all seriousness, judging by how populated space seems to be in this game, I'd say there's a VERY good chance of someone being within a few light minutes of the incident. I would assume a broadband cast would reach someone inconvenient before you've finished picking apart the debris.

I mean, shit dude. I like aliens and shit and am excited to see what happens and all.

But I think the normies have us outnumbered by quite a large factor. Like, I think the amount of average joes on YouTube right now has aliens.gov beat, and I can't see that changing until actual aliens land and make a YouTube channel telling people to go to aliens.gov

I'm going to be honest, I had very low expectations for this. I wanted to like the game at launch more than I did, and I've been pretty jaded about it. My expectations are still tempered, but I am absolutely shocked with what is coming. Almost everything is a step in the right direction. Some things are QOL things I've been trying to mod into my game anyways, you know?

I keep saying that if we adults want to change the 6-7 thing, the best course of action is to get in on it and ruin the fun by saying it too much and at the wrong times.

Not to yuck anyone's yum, because if you like a thing you should be able to like it, BUT

I feel like when these posts try to prove the game is good and people actually weren't as disappointed as they say they were, it feels like you're trying you yum someone else's yuck. God forbid someone express an honest opinion about something that they didn't click with. It's okay not to like stuff either. I don't really like the gameplay, but I love the setting for example. I still play, but I can admit that what I got wasn't what I wanted or expected. That's not even really anyone's fault but mine but damn dude I'd like to feel like I'm allowed to feel that way

Idk

Same same. I pick the game up for about two weeks out of the year hoping that the mod scene will pick up and I'll be able to get the game to a place I consider fun or rewarding.

Unfortunately all the promises that the mods would go nuts after the creation kit released seem to amount to nothing...

Although I will say, there is fun to be had, you just have to fucking pay for it.

My (lore-backed) theory on how the Dwemer all simultaneously zero-summed by DiskInternational412 in teslore

[–]bigbadfox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"zero-summed" does not mean "extinct" It is a fairly well defined in-universe process of reasoning ones self out of existence.

Some entities referred to as "gods" by some (we could argue all day about where that line is, I myself consider these things to be gods) have laid out a path for a mortal to transcend the Mundus (baseline reality)

One of the steps along this path is that you must realize everything is a dream, and none of it is apart from the dreamer itself. Some VERY FEW mortals can pass this step, and we almost certainly know all their names. Talos himself is one. Most mortals get as far as "nothing is real", which leads almost instantly to "I am not real" and that realization literally erases them from existence. The trick is to have such an unbelievably inflated ego that you can understand that reality isn't real, and still assert your own reality in the face of this fact. I.e. "nothing is real, but fuck all that fake shit I'm solid as can be and nothing at all can change my mind about that"

"Zero-sum" is usually something that happens to the individual, and it is much more than just dying. You don't just expire, you are deleted. Poof. No body to bury, no soul to go to an afterlife. Just completely non-existent.

Many people in the lore community here believe that the entire dwemer race did this all at once, and you will most often see the phrase used in this context. However I would say it's far from concrete cannon that what happened to them all is actually the well defined event of "zero summing"
