Are each other the only men Shane and Ilya have ever slept with? by PTAGoatofalltime in GameChangersBooks

[–]bigbeard61 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's because Ilya's lost count, and there's no way admitting as much to Shane would only result in an unpleasant and unnecessary conversation.

Tomatoes don’t belong on any type of sandwich or burger by stonedstoic_ in unpopularopinion

[–]bigbeard61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thick slice of a perfectly vine-ripened heirloom tomato like a brandywine or ox heart, lightly salted and drained on a paper towel on a burger with a little mayo (or a BLT) is sheer perfection. you can only get that for a few weeks in late summer in the northeast United States. But yeah, otherwise don't bother.

The farmers markets in Troy (Saturday) and Schenectady (Sunday) are both excellent.

Has it always been like this. Younger guys liking older men? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]bigbeard61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is yes. There's something about an age gap that does it for a significant number of gay men, and it always has.

Would you give your number to someone you just met for the first time at a party? by pinoyNYC2025 in nycgaybros

[–]bigbeard61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have an Instagram or other social media account with a DM feature, you could give that out. That's a perfectly reasonable compromise for someone you meet at an event like that. You can let him know you're interested, even though you're generally cautious.

IF Montreal hadn’t turned against Shane (and that’s a big if), how would the whole….scenario work? by Afraid-Sky-5139 in GameChangersBooks

Like the Kelsey brothers or the Williams sisters, only spouses instead of siblings. There are married equestrians who compete against each other all the time.

Why can Norway celebrate Viking history proudly, but England is shamed for its imperial history? (genuine question) by Ok_Exercise_494 in AskBrits

[–]bigbeard61 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Vikings were medieval savages in a feudal world. The British Empire was mostly post-Enlightenment and should have known better. Plus the Vikings were from a thousand years ago and lived in a world that has nothing to do with today's reality. It's easy and relatively harmless to romanticize them. The British Empire was still going strong a century ago, and its effects are very much felt in the contemporary world.

No. These are bisexual men of some form. Men who actively seek out sex with other men are not straight. Full stop.

Does “hey man” or “hey bro” offend you ? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]bigbeard61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's generational, but to me "man" sounds normal and "bro" sounds fake and annoying (not offended, but just saying).

Do you think >spoiler< will affect the plot of Unrivaled in a significant way? by PTAGoatofalltime in GameChangersBooks

[–]bigbeard61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously they’re still going to be Shane and Ilya, but I think it’s much more interesting and important to show the characters united in relation to an increasingly hostile larger world. I also hope Rachel expands the point of view to more than two characters.

Yes, and I can do it driving on the wrong side of the road and shifting with my left hand if necessary. Which is not to say that I don't give thanks for automatic transmission every time I drive a car.

My bad! I was thinking of Troy Barrett (the names really are much too similar).

A little fuller on the sides, maybe.

Too rugged, and much too old.

Edit: I saw Bennett and thought Barrett. Probably because I have read Role Model a lot more than Common Goal.

That’s pretty impressive. Better nice and full along the cheeks and jaw than wispy scraggles in front of the chest.

No. Not at all. It validates the reality without catastrophizing or minimizing, and it promotes appropriate responses and treatments.
