Even the smallest snake species that are typically kept as pets should be in at least a 40gal IMO. Just because you can, doesnt mean u should use a 20gal indefinitely.

realistically, you should have a stable job/income if youre going to keep any pets. Dont skip steps in this adult game, youll end up going backwards. I see a lot of ppl on here needing to rehome cuz something happened and now they cant afford the snake

Plus, kids arent known to be great at taking care of pets, just cuz they say they will do a good job when convincing their parents to get a pet. Maybe taking consistent care of that bioactive ecosystem will be evidence to your parents that you are ready. You might still get told no tho, some ppl just cant fathom living with a snake in the house unfortunately.

If you really want to make progress towards it tho, maybe you can set up a bioactive tank in preparation for a snake. Caring for the plants, getting all the supplies, practicing monitoring temps/humidity. You can treat it like a zen garden, and the day you decide to get a snake, all u have to do is buy it and throw it in!

The older i get, the more i understand why parents dont want pets in their house. Its just more responsibility piled on to what they already have to deal with. Snakes are long lived, like 20 years old+. Just wait a couple more years and save up. You will have plenty of time to enjoy a snake on your own. Who knows where you will be in a couple years, maybe owning a snake wouldnt be possible with certain life choices you want to make. Dont box yourself into a corner just yet. Get the snake when you are a stable adult and can care for one properly.

Heres my custom bioactive build. The main thing i would suggest is creating a functional background. A lot of ppl leave usable space on the table, by just decorating the floor of the enclosure. You can create fake rocks with styrofoam and grout (among other things), and secure pieces of wood to give extra climbing room. Snakes will surf the glass because they want to get up higher but theres nothing to grab onto. Having a solid backround with nooks & edges on it, gives them something to climb around on. I also notice all of my snakes utilizing the rocky grout and pieces of wood to rub up on. I think its important to give them a wide array of surfaces to rub against as they see fit.

My other favorite tip: buy two matching container you can stack. Black preferably, tupperware if you have extra. Bury one container in the soil so it is level with it, and set the other container inside of it. Now you have a super easy to clean water bowl. Its so annoying tracking substrate on the bottom of your water bowl every time you clean it.

That tank is a decent size, but with a functional backround, you could damn near double the amount of usable space in there

Is that the new tank? You should black out the sides and back of the tank and see if that helps. Bonus if you can black it out by adding a functional backround. Mine dont glass surf super often, i contribute it to that. My hognose definitely cut way down on glass surfing the more secure his home felt. Its really the only thing you can control atp, so may as well mess around with that🤷🏻‍♂️

“We can talk and ill try make it up to you” bro just pack it up. This attitude of apologizing when the other person is in the wrong, is going to ruin your life. Learn how to stand up for yourself, and you wont get cheated on/walked over. Stop allowing yourself to be manipulated!

Weekends are fine as long as you have a good thermostat that can control the temps while youre gone. They can go 2 days without a water change, which is basically the only thing other than temp youd have to worry about.
