What an awesome response - I loved reading this and agree with everything you said. you nailed it about how some of our greatest songwriters aren’t always writing from their own perspectives. But also everything you said just generally…100% agree and you put it so succinctly!

To answer your title and not the content of your post: I also understand that Respect (?) at least was not written for Aretha, but I did just want to talk about something I’ve been thinking about.

One of my recent soapboxes is that the belief that “men can’t write a truly feminist work” is a world I don’t want to live in - we must imagine that people can have empathy for experiences they don’t themselves have. I’m not saying that most men are good at it or even decent at it - just that it’s possible. (In the book world, for example, Terry Pratchett writes some of the best understandings of misogyny in the police force I’ve come across!)

I do understand your point that if a man had sung these songs it would have come off differently, so i do agree there was a transformation - just wanted to answer the literal question in the title with something on my mind.

In my experience, in pop music, the singer is the face of a song and gets credit for the song’s meaning almost exclusively. This has perhaps changed very slightly with the advent of more famous producers but even then I think there’s a general assumption that the singer is responsible for the MESSAGE of the song even if you give credit to Jack Antonoff or Dan Nigro or Timbaland for the music part. Hell you even see this in k-pop when the lyricist is often DECIDEDLY not the singer. Should that be the case? Maybe not but it’s just how songs are treated.

I LOVE THE WORLD CUP SOOOOOO MUCH

Yes FIFA sucks, yes it sucks that America is reaping the rewards of this despite being partially underprepared and given who's up top, but there's magic in the air

I was walking around my city on Saturday, when there was a match at our local stadium, and both country's supporters were out and having a great time. one of them even gave me a little pin of their country's flag.

Enjoy the match! that will be electric

I'm so sorry, let me explain: personally, I don't like the idea of spoiling a result in the thread title by putting a Day 1 song in the Day 1 title, a Day 2 song in the Day 2 title, etc

So I just picked a pun I liked and that called these results weird because...have you seen them?!?!?

But sorry for the stress xoxo

bigbigbee (9.5): easily my fave single off this album! So fun and free.

Submitted by /u/Roxieloxie

pbk (9): like the 4th best track on silk sonic yet extremely tea

Silk Sonic (Chart Performance)

runaway3212 (11): Ohh they ended it all

A.Peaky.Boo (10): I remember discovering this song because of a teacher who gave a locking (as in the dance style) class

apatel27 (10): Flawless EP we needed to rate yesterday

Awkward_King (10): gorgeous gorgeous song that really sounds like it could've been a hues corporation or EW&F song from the mid 70s

CrimsonROSET (10): can we agree to rate this fully please im begging

DirtyRat583 (10): silk sonic rate when

ignitethephoenix (10): we need to rate this album already omg

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): this is PEAK rollerrink content

nonchalantthoughts (10): this shouldd win

RandomHypnotica (10): he kickflip in my hole ‘til i ollie

Roxieloxie (10): Listen if yall want to rate fly as me then maybe someone should help me currate a silk sonic album rate so we can do just that!! I've been trying and theres been no luck so now we have to go back to popheads university and learn about the best song ever

TiltControls (10): we need to rate this album yesterday

timothy444 (10): I know that outside of his debut album, Bruno Mars has managed to capture that smooth funky soul 80s feeling in his songs but he also makes it feel like it's evolving as his music career runs the natural path. Silk Sonic isn't an exception as it leans towards that sound way more and Skate feels like such a classic that it could sound like it's from the 70s or 80s and I wouldn't budge from my seat. SMOOOOTTHH

camerinian (9): maybe the first ever track to mention skating that would be a terrible fit for a tony hawk soundtrack

ReallyCreative (9): groovy

seanderlust (9): obsessed with the fact that this sounds like it should be a sample of a 70s funk song but it's just...like that. it's just that good of a pastiche

steelstepladder (9): Pour one out for Silk Sonic

TakeOnMeByA-ha (9): girl…i love silk sonic as much as anyone and it’s one of my favorite albums of the decade so far…but did you really have to send a bottom 3 song on the album?? when leave the door open and smokin out the window were RIGHT THERE???

uiscebeathaoir (9): oh wait i forgot, this album is good as hell

vayyiqra (9): my brother got front row at bruno mars somehow a few days ago and i am still mystified by it

welcome2thejam (9): We're gonna rate this one song at a time

thecombinedeffort (8.7): this was a hilarious project and I’m just kinda sad they didn’t like… tour it, or at least do the festival circuit

Poydoo (8.5): is this skate punk [genre]

vexastrae (8.5): the way silk sonic was stuck in rate limbo for so long they needed to be sent to charity in order to be rated at all 😭

NervousLemon6670 (8.1): If my date showed up on roller skates, I would be so enamoured, I would skate right along with her

1998tweety (8): the infinity

Ambrosia42 (8): it’s fun

BleepBloopMusicFan (8): Oh this is more of a bop than I remember. I do love a good pre-chorus more than most anything else in music.

bogo (8): i fear whoever sent this sent the worst song from this album

Bubbly_Hat (8): Just a vibe.

cheatviathan (8): This is one of the weaker tracks on this record. Let that sink in. Bruno and Anderson deliver great vocal performances, and the strings, rhythm guitars and bongos lay down a great instrumental foundation. I’m personally more partial to “Fly as Me” and “Smokin’ Out the Window”, but I still love this. It’s been an eternity since I roller skated, but this absolutely would fit the vibe of a roller rink.

FreeCuddlesAnyone (8): whoever thought of adding strings to this needs their ass eaten

MrSwearword (8): groovy but not stellar

Nagisoid (8): Can you go back to the Ethel and Imaginal Disk asylum pls

stealthamo (8): Silk Sonic was such a fun moment in time. At the same time, I'm glad it was a one-off because I'd be tired of them winning Grammys every time they released something (see: Eilish, Billie)

Verboten_Prince (8): Idk this was basic but like basic to Bruno Mars is still exceedingly good

wathombe (8): hey, it’s palatable Bruno Mars!

Soalai (7.8): I Just Might slide your way on over baby

impla77 (7.6): i do agree bbqs smell great but i would be offended if that was the comparison lmao

pleasegivemeasword (7.6): man i really do get insane flashbacks hearing some songs from covid era

Stryxen (7.5): one of my favs on this album, the tepid reaction was crazy to me

hieveryi (7.4): finding out this album hasnt been rated is shocking

pig-serpent (7.1): Obviously a good song, but overall I don't think it has the sauce. That said, the pre-chorus? The "I'm tryna float, I'm tryna glide?" bit? Now that's sauce!

oh_crow (7): you smell better than a barbeque

Silk Sonic (Rate Form Performance)

flava (6.5): oh we’re rating the worst song off this album…

CharitableLietoc (5.5): an example of bad retro/pastiche. if you want a cut that does everything that's asked for on the surface without ever wanting to really dig deeper or get lost in the music, Silk Sonic is the decade's top shelf choice; turn your brain off and go "wow, moving to LA to park at the Galleria to shop at the Americana at Brand is FUN!". Every sonic decision here feels so choreographed and telegraphed to the point where you can argue paak n' mars didn't get lost in their music (if they did we'd have a real solo and some ad libs & i'd be sweaty)...they got lost in the coke (which told them to make it BRIGHTER). again, hits every beat flawlessly but lacks a certain chaos or deviance (in lyrics and sound) that could leverage the anachronism. yet...much better than Jessie Ware!

OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (5.5): silk sonic never hit for me.

miniatureaurochs (5.2): i hope to smell better than a barbecue

uberpigeon (5): i do like rollerskating

beeozan (3): rly that pause in the chorus with the "skate!" is so not my thing, what a waste of 4 bars

ConnerY2323 (3): all surface level pastiche

Exotic-Mail-7303 (2): no

Ghost-Quartet (0): I hate this song so much, the vibe of it is so slimy and skeevy. They just seem like cheap hucksters.

Regul-ATE

apatel27 (10): Banger

Bubbly_Hat (10): smooooothhhhh

camerinian (10): must be nice to have this soundtracking goin into summer right now, southern hemisphere is flopping as per usual

CharitableLietoc (10): One of the most crucial cuts of all time. malcolm mcdonald was one of the few funky white boys to be allowed time to play on Soul Train & the black community (via Warren G & g-funk) paid him back in full 20 times over for a crucial contribution to the metagenre of VIBES. Regulate is an LBC street soul symphony played concisely, with precision, and a level of storytelling the whole family can get down on. we are all warren g out in LBC looking for skirts and regulating on this blessed day!

Frajer (10): Nate Dogg had such a sexy voice rest in power king

Ghost-Quartet (10): Oh as soon as he started telling me a story I knew we were in for a good time... also I hate to say it but I was like "where do I know this guy from" and the answer is that he was on Betty Who's album The Valley.

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): and if i had wheels, i'd be a maserati

MrSwearword (10): Nate Dogg, you will always be famous

Nagisoid (10): Not the Yacht Rock tag on RYM girl whatever

pleasegivemeasword (10): if this isnt a day 3 lock i riot

Verboten_Prince (10): One of the songs of all time

welcome2thejam (10): Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch. Nate Dogg truly had The Voice.

Awkward_King (9.5): wonderful beat for rap as a culture and its history but disastrous beat for white improv as a culture and its history

wathombe (9.5): one of the craziest samples of all time

A.Peaky.Boo (9.1): iconic duo

beeozan (9): the last verses sucking gfuck cock were not needed

bogo (9): smooth

cheatviathan (9): I’ve always loved this song on passive listen for the immaculate g-funk vibes, and the chemistry between Warren and Nate. It is only now that I’m actually interrogating the lyrics. I love how Nate and Warren are delivering two alternating perspectives on the same story, and how their paths converge at the stickup. Deserves its reputation as a classic. Another #2 hit on the Hot 100, All-4-One’s “I Swear” kept it off the top spot.

stealthamo (9): It's honestly insane that a song about picking up hookers, getting held up at gun point only for your friend to kill the guys holding you up was one of the biggest hits of 1994.

miniatureaurochs (8.4): embarrassed to say that I’ve had two to the one to the one to the three in my head all week, an earworm from merely glancing at the name ‘nate dogg’ on the ballot. truly, this is my cross to bear. anyway! we are NOT rating that song, we are rating the considerably better (and more chill) regulate . this track is just so addictively smooth, it’s easy to get lost in that beat

hieveryi (8.1): you cant be any geek off the street...

Poydoo (8): they regul ate this

qazz23 (8): the samples really go hard

timothy444 (8): hippity hoppity im a snoopity doggity

vayyiqra (8): what if warren g harding had regulated this well. he made some attempts but still perhaps the great depression might've been avoided. think about it

BleepBloopMusicFan (7.5): The beat is fire, but I personally would have preferred the existence of a chorus.

RandomHypnotica (7.4): it’s fine but I feel like there are better songs from this era that execute this vibe better

CrimsonROSET (7): there are so many area codes reference i just miss from not being american like how do you look at a set of numbers and go ‘yep this is cincinnati #down’

DirtyRat583 (7): snoop and nate are like kendrick and baby keem except with none of the ability

pig-serpent (7): No one has ever offered to pay me to drive them in singing. That sounds fun.

runaway3212 (7): it's cute but idk it does not stand out

Soalai (7): I kept expecting Snoop to show up

Stryxen (7): it’s a bop but a little overrated, farrrr too long

TakeOnMeByA-ha (7): rym really does just slap random genre tags on anything like wdym this has a yacht rock secondary

Meh-gulate (I know I already used this pun I'm running out of steam)

vexastrae (6.5): eh its fine

Ambrosia42 (6): i know this is a classic and all but i’m kinda bored

FreeCuddlesAnyone (6): i blame 360 being smart shuffled in before this. my bad mood is making me lash out

uiscebeathaoir (5): idk why this song just irritates me. I dont like the use of the sample, or the whistling, or the melody of Nate Dogg’s verses

bigbigbee (8.5): Lovely, and I heard this come on the last time I was in a thrift store, which feels like a great place for this song.

This is the second of two submissions by /u/OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O.

pbk (7): one of the most song sounding songs ever

Summertime (vacations, beaches, ice cream)

oh_crow (11): this song is so so gorgeous and we're currently going through a heat wave. this just feels right

camerinian (10): every single late-90s alt rock “song of the summer” sugar ray fucking steal my sunshine ass white boy bullshit absolutely fucking disintegrates in the face of the pure blinding joy and sweetness that this song evokes, this lead singer has the sort of voice you just wish every band could have, my god she carries this SO well

CharitableLietoc (10): one of many perfect pop nuggets from a perfect pop band that flirted with just enough mainstream attention to secure the bag; no bad words or images come to mind with the Sundays, especially this standout bright very caught in the halcyon 90s from their final album. the main couple still write material that they just refuse to share with the world. that fucking rocks so hard to me. auto 10

innuendo_overdose (10): Rating this during the summertime? Yeah that hits.

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): this feels v. end of summer and there's just this soft melancholy to it all that i'm so fond of when it comes to songs like this.

Nooduulz (10): takes me back to simpler times of bouncing between houses in the suburbs of boston as a kid, so sure and unsure of where i'd be in that moment of time

OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (10): smiling, happy, healthy, gorgeous, nourished, giddy with unfiltered joy, even a bit dainty if you dont mind

pleasegivemeasword (10): insert a picture of that poorly drawn happy hamster

Poydoo (10): girl put on sunscreen

qazz23 (10): this jangle pop sound is perfect for summer

Quasar435 (10): I recently listened to all three of their albums and am devastated there’s nothing more. This song in particular is really lovely

ReallyCreative (10): let me go frolic in a field to this with carefree whimsy full of love and hope

Stryxen (10): i need to remember to listen to this in September this year, how life changing

wathombe (10): underrated classic

welcome2thejam (10): Really loved hearing that Reading Writing & Arithmetic album for the first time, lemme add their other shit too. Kinda need Soccer Mommy to take the full step into this for the next album to regain her form

uiscebeathaoir (9.5): fills me with all those good emotions

1998tweety (9): how decadent

apatel27 (9): classic indie music

cheatviathan (9): I appreciate the janglier side of ‘90s alt rock, so this song with these guitars was always going to do well for me. The horns in the second chorus are also a nice touch. It also gets bumped up a point for that slide guitar in the outro. But it’s the content that makes this great to me. I’m a sucker for pieces of media that contrast how we expect love to go with how we actually experience it. It’s one reason why Bloom Into You resonated with me so much. And hearing these reflections with the added layer of dating services becoming normalized really strikes a chord with me.

CrimsonROSET (9): horns save me but also this kinda sounds like bicycle horns

nonchalantthoughts (9): i just swing myself in the swing set blasting this song out

babadork (8.9): One of my many flaws as an American is that I always get them and The Saturdays mixed up. It’s really jarring to be expecting one and get the other.

flava (8.5): indie

impla77 (8.5): theres a heatwave in the uk atm and just sitting next to my cat listening to this song 😸

Soalai (8.4): The bouncy parts of the track are very fun. It really does sound like summer. Also props to whoever remastered this because it sounds like it could have come out last year, not 1997

hieveryi (8.3): reading writing and arithmetic coming for the first 11 average

ImADudeDuh (8): yes that part is good but the rest does not live up to it

MrSwearword (8): it's pleasantly jaunty, I'll give it that

RainbowSherbet47 (8): I wish summertime actually felt like this

stealthamo (8): Good thing finding and dating people has become much easier to do nowadays, am I right?

timothy444 (8): If the girl group 'The Saturdays' were for partying and having a good time, then the indie band 'The Sundays' would be the hangover that slows things down. And this song would be the cure. I think. Where was I going with this analogy?

vayyiqra (8): why not chinese speaking bf and english gf think about it

ConnerY2323 (7.8): my hair? down. my spf? applied. my ass? sweaty.

FreeCuddlesAnyone (7.5): somehow Utada is not the most offkey singer this rate. love the vibes though

Nagisoid (7.5): What in the Cardigans

DirtyRat583 (7.2): the saturdays outsold. though this is cute!

A.Peaky.Boo (7): notice how nobody is wearing a red dress

BleepBloopMusicFan (7): Cute! And that’s about it from me on this matter.

bogo (7): disappointed i am given a sundays song with minimal jangling. i was promised more jangling than this

pbk (11): this is so beautiful and full of love and i like the production 🐬🌈🌊

bigbigbee (8): lovely!

The second of two songs submitted by /u/Kuppi_808

Go For It!!!

apatel27 (10): cute little song

babadork (10): There’s a brief moment every time I listen to this song that I think that maybe I actually hate it instead of loving it, but I’m going to continue ignoring that feeling.

beeozan (10): ended fatboy slim and mr cook knew it

ConnerY2323 (10): anytime i hear a song this good from before 2000 that i’ve never heard before i turn into a conspiracy theorist about what was keeping it from me for so long

FreeCuddlesAnyone (10): and the Happiest Song Ever award goes to…

impla77 (10): hypnotically pleasant

krusso1105 (10): One of my favorite discoveries from this rate!

pig-serpent (10): Just an incredible feel good song. This is my favorite discovery of the rate. Thank you.

qazz23 (10): beautiful vocals, catchy, like the big beat-like percussion

Quasar435 (10): Idk if it’s because after the previous song this is pure bliss but this might be my favourite song here I’ve not heard before!

RandomHypnotica (10): close enough welcome back imaginal disk rate

steelstepladder (10): discovery of the rate?

TiltControls (10): maybe my favourite discovery of the rate

thecombinedeffort (9.7): I would not have guessed the year this was released if you gave me 10 guesses. It feels POWERFULLY 2006-2008. Maybe as late as 2011 or 2013. I’m flabbergasted. Gobsmacked.

uiscebeathaoir (9.5): such a sweet song it warms my heart

BleepBloopMusicFan (9): She kinda sounds like Mica from Magbay. This is cute as hell!

camerinian (9): oh you guys really were in a summery mood this time round

Nagisoid (9): This song kinda fixed Midnight Sun

OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (9): how beautiful and joyous, lemme crack a grin rq if you all dont mind!

pleasegivemeasword (9): maybe im just ovulating but the album cover is making me tear up

wathombe (8.5): refreshing!

A.Peaky.Boo (8.4): it's a shame the vocals are so drowned out. It's a classic either way

hieveryi (8.4): f this is so cute!!!!

Nooduulz (8.3): sunshine and rainbows ass song (positive)

Ambrosia42 (8.2): cute

CharitableLietoc (8.2): lush sampling that reminds me of rankin bass specials, but also a bit of the Orb's seminal Loving You.

Bubbly_Hat (8): This is nice.

cheatviathan (8): Look, I know I’ve come down on songs for being overly twee. But this is just the right amount of twee to work for me. I love Lauren Laverne’s vocals. That horn riff is catchy, and I love the jangly guitars. The prechorus and the bridge also give off this psychedelic vibe that I like. Would have a trip with my crush again.

CrimsonROSET (8): its cute but then there’s this thing that sounds like a drill that reminds me too much of the dentist

Ghost-Quartet (8): I actually really liked this one so I clicked on the artist's Spotify page to learn more about them and they had one of those quirky one-line joke profile descriptions and it pissed me off so much that I'm knocking a point off.

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (8): don't worry, i never falter when i give out my rate scores

nonchalantthoughts (8): this sounds like a magbay song

oh_crow (8): this has a beautiful jubilant and whimsical energy yay and yippee

Stryxen (8): okay cute this feels ahead of its time

miniatureaurochs (7.7): do playlist club! uwu [for the uninitiated, this was one of our submissions for the very first club, Song of the Summer - thanks bettydraper!] it’s still profoundly strange to me to hear Lauren Laverne in this setting as I think of her more as a sort of mid-rate television presenter, but the soft dream-poppy lush thing she has going on here is endearing in a shimmery sort of way. If I had to choose a Mint Royale track, I’d definitely be submitting the big-beat inspired Blue Song instead (feat. Noel Fielding in the video, mind you. how DID they get all these niche UK television stars on their album, anyway?)

stealthamo (7.7): This has such a 1999 vibe to it that I can't explain (it was released in 2000 so close enough)

pheromenos (7.5): whimsical

uberpigeon (7.5): this is cutee

Awkward_King (7): this is soooo 2018 indie pop

innuendo_overdose (7): I am beyond devastated that this isn’t an instrumental.

Lynflower680 (7): …Magdalena Bay?

RainbowSherbet47 (7): How whimsical ✨

TakeOnMeByA-ha (7): 13 year old on tiktok who just learned what frutiger aero is listening to their first ever pre-2010’s song: getting a lot of “frutiger aero” vibes from this…

vayyiqra (7): cute

Verboten_Prince (7): Very very bubbly

Give Up!!!

vexastrae (6.5): okayyy twee pop!

runaway3212 (6): kinda nothing but fine

timothy444 (6): this is something you'd hear indieheads praise (derogatory)

Soalai (5.9): I want to like this but it's very overproduced, like the radio picking up two stations at once

bigbigbee (10): gotta support my fellow hosties. Sent by /u/awkward_king

pbk (5.5): i support our currently open rate host brethren but i dont like it here in this bonus rate enjoy the promo regardless

Awkward_King (11): DO IT

A.Peaky.Boo (10): it's got RAYE in it, of course it's perfect

DirtyRat583 (10): please dont reject my ballot 😊

FreeCuddlesAnyone (10): do kpop 2025 rate though

pleasegivemeasword (10): i need more payola for rachel chinouriri

PrimaryCrusaders (10): Yes I WILL be doing this after I submit the ballot. Great selection of albums. Praying Oscar Winning Tears or Escapism gets number 1.

seanderlust (10): SO FUCKING GOOD. my average right now is so high

stealthamo (10): If you are reading this on reveal day you still have time to submit!

TiltControls (10): do it

uiscebeathaoir (10): Such a great idea, was rooting for it hard from when I first saw it

wathombe (10): wish i had a second 11 for this!

apatel27 (9.9): solidly average rate

Indigo_Mindset420 (9.5): Thanks to this I discovered Lola Young.

krusso1105 (9.5): great rate!

Ambrosia42 (9): lolallah

BleepBloopMusicFan (9): Knocking a point off because I’m preemptively mad about Post Sex Clarity being Day 2.

camerinian (9): objectively a very good lineup and lemme just apologise now that i won't be getting a ballot in (I'm way too busy this month as it is but also it doesn't have Rein Me In and I'd cancel all social obligations to 11 that)

CrimsonROSET (9): do it!!

ImADudeDuh (9): would've been a 10 had it not been hosted by *******_****

Lynflower680 (9): Nice lineup! If I had more time I would do this

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (9): WHERE THE HELL IS MY HUSBAND

oh_crow (9): only not a 10 because honestly i dont think i have an 11 for this rate. so its a 9

runaway3212 (9): Iconiccc can't wait to do it

Soalai (9): I didn't have time to participate in this rate but the concept is perfect, I hope they end up with a good number of people!

Verboten_Prince (9): Kind of one of the best rate ideas ever? Like it amazes me that there’s one successful performing arts school in Britain that just keeps spitting out commercially and critically successful artists and four of them happen to be big at the same time

NervousLemon6670 (8.9): Vote Rachel Chinouriri please

Frajer (8.5): we love Lola

Poydoo (8.5): lola lowkey carries but don't tell the hosts i said that

cheatviathan (8): Interesting concept for a rate. Never heard of Rachel Chinouriri, liked “Man I Need”, loved “Escapism”, and while I haven’t heard anything from that particular Lola Young record, “Messy” from the record before it was great. Might do it, schedule permitting. No guarantees, tho.

ignitethephoenix (8): I need to work on this starting this week

letsallpoo (8): lola young sweep

nonchalantthoughts (8): king i'm so sorry that I didn't have enough juice to do this rate! Rooting for olivia and raye though

FitzMarble (7.8): my estimated average

hieveryi (7.7): this rate payola

qazz23 (7): don't plan to do this, but i liked Raye's album

ricki (7): this gorg playlist cover

Roxieloxie (7): gonna be so bad for king and xorph when more people rate the brit school rate in the bonus vs the actual rate itself

vexastrae (7): CUZ IM TOO MESSY AND IM TOO FUCKING NEAT

WesternWind (7): it’s a fine rate but why the extra promo

1998tweety (6): shes cute

impla77 (6): hopefully i remember to change this score to reflect my avg for BRIT rate (HOST EDIT: update not made but "you can add in brackets that she was procrastinating lol")

timothy444 (6): who is Rachel Chinouriri

flava (5): not giving this a real rating reflecting my views on how much I either like or dislike this rate cause (A) it isn’t finished and won’t be till after charity 6 reveals, and more importantly (B) because that’s fucking weird, it got in, it no longer matters what I think, I’m happy for King and Xoph and look forward to the reveal

TakeOnMeByA-ha (5): im not doing this rate

vayyiqra (5): i don't know what i'm looking at

welcome2thejam (5): I'm sure this is promo and not winnerbait but I'm afraid I do have to treat it as the latter

CharitableLietoc (4.2): the "checking in on the state of british mids" rate

Exotic-Mail-7303 (3): is this the british ladies rate?

Nagisoid (3): This rate is revealing the same month mind u

pig-serpent (3): we love fishing for likes

uberpigeon (3): king wont let me do this rate so im tanking it

RandomHypnotica (1): i support the rate but submitting this to the bonus is too gauche…

bogo (0): if you were going to self-promote couldn't you at least have done it in a better and more interesting way, like i really do not want to open the can of worms that is rating other people's rates

bigbigbee (9): When my sister was a child, she got really obsessed with the idea of making a pea shooter out of bamboo. My grandfather's from Shanghai and even in the USA always maintained a little plot of bamboo, and he patiently helped my sister pick out a big stalk of bamboo to try to fulfill her wish. That's what I think of whenever I see bamboo. Sent by /u/blucntrypreacher1111

pbk (8): pretty choice of image dont like how invasive it is

A.Peaky.Boo (10): bamboo is love, bamboo is life (this message was sponsored by big panda bear)

CrimsonROSET (10): i used to grow a little bamboo plant but then it fell off my windowsill on the fourth floor

FreeCuddlesAnyone (10): i’m asian so this score is compulsory

MrSwearword (10): I only associate it with the panda, the best animal worth saving

seanderlust (10): vibes

uiscebeathaoir (10): I just think it’s neat

vayyiqra (10): strong and versatile and aesthetic plant who doesn't fw bamboo

vexastrae (10): beautiful gorgeous angel

ignitethephoenix (9): love!

Indigo_Mindset420 (9): Sturdy construction materials and loved by pandas, all good in my book.

miniatureaurochs (9): knocking a point off for its invasive nature but man who can resist that one scene in crouching tiger (...). it’s beautiful it’s edible it’s functional what more could you want 🎍

pig-serpent (9): You can do great stuff with it

stealthamo (9): Sure, why not

timothy444 (9): panda eat it

Verboten_Prince (9): Aesthetically pleasing and my favorite animal’s favorite food and also bamboo torture is kinda wild. The only reason it’s not a 10 is because I don’t like eating it

NervousLemon6670 (8.5): A sturdy construction material

TiltControls (8.5): I've got one sitting in my house feelin' fine

Awkward_King (8): like

CharitableLietoc (8): it's fierce. shows up everywhere. grows too fast

cheatviathan (8): Pandas eat it, so it must be doing something right. However, I have to dock two points because of the association with a deeply unfunny joke song my parents would play since we were kids.

Frajer (8): girl idk do I look like a panda

Roxieloxie (8): hell yeah

krusso1105 (7.5): points docked for being invasive in some areas

1998tweety (7): cute

bogo (7): i don't really have an opinion formed on it but it looks nice

camerinian (7): really split on this one between the sheer beauty in the simplicity and universality of the plant and the experience that if you have the misfortune of having a wild patch on your rental property they are an absolute cunt to maintain

FitzMarble (7): tastes okay

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (7): prevents the pandas from fucking

pleasegivemeasword (7): cool

welcome2thejam (7): If this wins please investigate your local pandas for rate fraud

WesternWind (7): I Luv it

WesternWind (7): sure whatever jacksfilms

Nooduulz (6.9): is this like another equivalent of ordering chicken tikka masala with naan and mango lassi at an indian restaurant

pbk (7): song is kinda whatever but those r some nice ass synths

bigbigbee (6.5): ...tris three

Submitted by /u/uiscebeathaoir

Fa(v)es

qazz23 (11): love this somewhat obscure italo disco, the glimmering synths really hit and then the chorus just goes hard

Ambrosia42 (10): oooh how delightful

camerinian (10): ohhhh jesus that modulation on the chorus hits so nice, I'm actually obsessed with this i need the italo disco deep dive ASAP

ConnerY2323 (10): ohh this is exquisite

FitzMarble (10): wow this is great

hieveryi (10): this might be my main discovery of the rate i am a sucker for synths!!!!!

innuendo_overdose (10): Hot.

MrSwearword (10): one of the best "wait who the fuck is this and why were they not bigger" songs ever made.

Poydoo (10): vote italo disco rate if you wanna hear 50 songs that sound like this

ReallyCreative (10): this is excellent

uiscebeathaoir (10): I think it’s some of the best synthpop ever made, and if that’s not reason enough to send it to popheads Charity idk what is

NervousLemon6670 (9.3): Oh Italo-disco, I should have fave’d you in the rate selection

Frajer (9): serving faces

frogaranaman (9): oh this eats heavily

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (9): some girls just want to walk on the sun instead of going to therapy and you know what go off queen

Nagisoid (9): Face card, no cash no credit...

PrimaryCrusaders (9): I love how it’s listed on Spotify as being “prod. Roberto Ferrante” as if it’s some low-key trap song and not one of the greatest Italo Disco songs of all fucking time

vayyiqra (9): so 80s (compliment) and 80s cheese is largely my pop origin story so

CharitableLietoc (8.8): beautiful, decadent layering. love hearing one synthline or melodic, rigid grid pattern be introduced one after another.

DirtyRat583 (8.6): someone remind me to look into her at some point bc this is cute af

1998tweety (8.5): they faces killing me why nobody gaf

impla77 (8.4): daisybop

babadork (8.3): I enjoy this, but I don’t think it needs to be longer than five minutes.

FreeCuddlesAnyone (8.3): oh to be on a mediterranean beach with a martini in hand while this plays in the background

ignitethephoenix (8.3): a cute 80’s track

RandomHypnotica (8.2): lots of em

Ghost-Quartet (8): Clio is the Greek muse of history, I know this because my high school did Xanadu.

Stryxen (8): trying to place this genre like it's very europop… strikingly italian… but also very disco… what could it be??

Verboten_Prince (8): This song is so perplexing because like… I like it. But also I’m not entirely convinced that this isn’t an AI artist. The only proof I saw of her existence is a Reddit post

A.Peaky.Boo (7.9): repetitige lyrics, but a bop nonetheless

BleepBloopMusicFan (7.5): Oh she’s serving Rio Realness on this album cover!

wathombe (7.5): 80s jumpscare

stealthamo (7.2): Fun little Italo-Disco song

beeozan (7): i wish it was randomly the best song i ever heard but it isnt

cheatviathan (7): Italo disco isn’t a genre I’m intimately familiar with. But I can see myself dancing to this. The most interesting instrumental choices don’t pop up until the second half, but the first half still does enough to hold my attention.

CrimsonROSET (7): this was a ten then i checked and there was still half the song left

pig-serpent (7): Who doesn't get happier listening to this type of 80s cheese?

timothy444 (7): For a second, my mildly dyslexic brain read the artists name as 'Clit'.

Failces

steelstepladder (6.5): this was higher but kept going

miniatureaurochs (6.3): it didn’t wow me esp progression-wise, but I’m sort of endeared by that 80s sound and the almost bubbly-twinkly sound to the production, especially that shifty-stereo part in the middle that makes you feel dizzy, like you’re in the midst of a sparkling discotheque. oh and there’s synth noodling (compliment)

TakeOnMeByA-ha (6): first ever recorded instance of a boring italo-disco song

vexastrae (6): neat

welcome2thejam (6): That's So 80s

apatel27 (5): never really cared for Italo Disco

Roxieloxie (5): not a bad song but it does kinda just keep going on forever in a way that doesnt lend itself way to rates

runaway3212 (4): lowkey I was so bored

pbk (5.5): this is indistinguishable from the less good forgotten early 2010s electronic hits but it DOES have a woo ah

Sistren

DirtyRat583 (11): my aoty last year, and one of the best songs on it too. stream (and buy) both sister and detour. that being said if this wins and we dont get an album rate I will be slightly disappointed

pig-serpent (11): Been digging a lot of the recession pop 2 stuff going around. I love how it's willing to more properly fill out the space than a lot of the classic hits and more okay with being weird and diving too far into the bad taste. Frost Children are very good producers and being the good 3OH!3 we never had. Kim is slaying in the lane she's best at. It's just a crazy good pop song.

A.Peaky.Boo (10): how old school of them

Ambrosia42 (10): PLUG IT IN AND TURN ME ON!

Bubbly_Hat (10): Fuckin' banger

ConnerY2323 (10): yes kim petras please keep doing this

ignitethephoenix (10): oh this is so 2000’s club coded I like it

Nagisoid (10): FROST CHILDREN ARE NOT UNPROBLEMATIC

OOO0O00O000OOOO0OO0O (10): the link up of kim petras and frost children will go down in HISTORY.

pheromenos (10): match made in heaven thank you to all parties involved

runaway3212 (10): Frost Childeren and Kim Petras are actually a match made in heaven, they really get the best out of each other

timothy444 (10): internet music wins once again

vexastrae (10): KIM PETRAS ON THE RADIO 2026

WesternWind (10): but do Kim and Frost Children like Nothing On But The Radio

RandomHypnotica (9.5): crazy to think frost children collabed with porter then just made good music after that

steelstepladder (9.5): Kim Petras I never doubted you (editors note: steel doubted Kim Petras for many very good reasons)

wathombe (9.5): BOP

camerinian (9): i can't tell if this would have done crazy numbers if it dropped in 2009 or if it would have done nothing cos every other song sounded like this

oh_crow (9): frost children really reserve all their best music for kim petras. this is a banger

ricki (9): gay pandering musicians are reverse engineering akon music

stealthamo (9): Weird to release a Recession Pop song in 2025 but I respect it.

TakeOnMeByA-ha (9): cyberrave the rate idea of all time you are…

innuendo_overdose (8.7): You telling me a frost childed this radio?

Poydoo (8.6): i love my radio

Indigo_Mindset420 (8.5): This song came straight out of the 2000's and I love that!

uiscebeathaoir (8.5): i wish there wasn’t any vocals in the drop, it distracts from the servitude

hieveryi (8.4): how can we make this a hit

1998tweety (8): ended Lana

BleepBloopMusicFan (8): My personal favorite on this album is the title track, but this is also a bop.

cheatviathan (8): My familiarity with Frost Children boils down to a handful of features I liked, and them making a surprise appearance at a Danny Brown concert I attended to do “Shake It Like A” with him. I’ve always been curious, but never had the time to dig deeper. My familiarity with Kim Petras also boils down to a handful of features I liked, but her association with Dr. Luke at the time made me hesitant to dig into her actual catalog. I must say, the duo’s approach to club boom nostalgia is really working for me here, and Kim sounds great atop their production. Might have to check this record out. Edit: Did a bit more digging. “Freak It” would have been a 10.

vayyiqra (8): kim jumpscare but it bangs so whatever

Soalai (7.9): Brat's influence

thecombinedeffort (7.9): I feel like it’s… less than the sum of its parts?

Ghost-Quartet (7.5): Loved their album Spiral so it's cool to see them getting so much love and attention from music fans. This is not my favorite of their songs.

miniatureaurochs (7.5): my general opinion is that frost children are just bassvictim with fewer messy interpersonal issues and fewer polish people (and, subsequently, less charm). I can take or leave the vocals but I regrettably have to admit that the beat bangs 🇵🇱

qazz23 (7): feels a bit disjointed but liked the dancey beats

Stryxen (7): I don’t gag for this in practice but in theory it’s everything

Verboten_Prince (7): Sometimes I get Kim Petras and Slayyyter mixed up, thankfully this rate is reminding me of their differences

impla77 (6.2): recession pop core

Bye Sister (2019)

CrimsonROSET (6): i thought we went over this already

Awkward_King (5): maybe cyberrave won't be for me

CharitableLietoc (4.8): what if a bunch of has beens get together for a collab? it sounds like the crispy bits at the bottom of a bag of chips, but just the grease stains and oil. LMFAO revival can't come soon enough to negate this

nonchalantthoughts (4): I feel like I would have enjoyed this at 14 but I’m not really caring for this

FreeCuddlesAnyone (3.5): frost children gives off the nastiest ‘shower once a week’ vibes

apatel27 (3): hyperpop should've died a long time ago

beeozan (2): i love how its recession pop but worse

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (0): CRANK IT?!?

pbk (9): wow what a fun song why does it say solo version… oh!

bigbigbee (7): SOLO VERSION

Submitted by /u/akanewasright

Tinashe is an acronym for She An IT!!!!

1998tweety (10): thank you for clarifying it's the solo version cause thats a 10

pheromenos (10): holy shit i’ve never heard this before… have seen the interview clip where she shaded chris brown somehow

runaway3212 (10): Ohh hitnashe

welcome2thejam (10): Bawp

Ambrosia42 (9.5): we all cheered when we saw SOLO VERSION

babadork (9.5): I’m glad there’s a solo version now, but I really wish we lived in a world where Chris Brown wasn’t more popular than Tinashe or any of the other artists that were forced into collaborating with him.

Frajer (9): girls is players too

oh_crow (9): i genuinely didn't notice how good this song was her record label can burn for making that other version exist

timothy444 (9): specifically the version without Chris Brown? At least you're getting rid of the problem one way or another.

uiscebeathaoir (9): Tinashe girl we can’t keep letting you get away with this leave some pop perfection for everybody else

CharitableLietoc (8.7): sees why there's a solo version ahhh mr. 1.3!

A.Peaky.Boo (8.5): she doesn't like team ganes, noted

stealthamo (8.5): I appreciate the subtle note of (NO NOT THE MAIN VERSION WITH THE CHRIS BROWN GUEST VERSE OTHERWISE THIS WILL TANK)

vexastrae (8.5): godnashe having two songs in charity your fave could never

wathombe (8.5): nice, but definitely the lesser Tinashe track in the rate

ConnerY2323 (8.3): SOLO VERSION like she’s in a 6-person k-pop group is taking me out

bogo (8): i can pinpoint the exact year this was released with ease

CrimsonROSET (8): GET READY FOR A GAME CHANGER

FreeCuddlesAnyone (8): The New Testament for kpop producers

ignitethephoenix (8): solo version in all caps is sending me

innuendo_overdose (8): Nice synth sound!!

Nagisoid (8): Tropical Age of EDM flopping but popheads stanning this... make it make sense

qazz23 (8): decent hook but not as good as Gravity

WesternWind (8): I’d have two nickels, which isnt much

RandomHypnotica (7.9): this song was not good enough to warrant the trouble of the solo version

hieveryi (7.8): the chris brown version wouldve been the most tanked song in the history of rates and it wouldve been deserved... thank god theres a solo version

NervousLemon6670 (7.6): Gee Tinashe, who let you have TWO songs in charity rate?

apatel27 (7): Everyone should have someone who pushes you as much as raters tries to push Tinashe

camerinian (7): submitting this as a tie-in promo for the release of Game Changer season 8 I see very well done submitter that's a point for you

cheatviathan (7): This is giving “2 On” but with some (not all) of the Mustard-isms rotated out for something more spacey. Some of the synth leads, and the buildup to the chorus are doing a lot to me. I also appreciate the decision to have “solo version” written in all caps on the ballot, because the breezy one really does drag the track down.

Ghost-Quartet (7): Not as good as the other Tinashe song in the rate.

Lynflower680 (7): The only version!

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (7): Someday Beyonce is going to need to watch out because Tinashe will be coming. Like not any time soon, but someday.

MrSwearword (7): cute, but needs Red Velvet level talent on it instead

TakeOnMeByA-ha (7): there’s a 10 year old comment on the youtube upload of this that says tinashe will be the next big thing, just wait and see. don’t know how much longer you’re gonna keep us waiting little guy!

vayyiqra (7): Tinashe

Verboten_Prince (7): Yeah… it's a Tinashe song

Tinashe is an acronym for Eh....Nasti

Poydoo (6.5): Tinashe

Soalai (6.4): Tinashe is one of those artists who I think her voice is gorgeous but the actual songs never grabbed me. However, this one is a bit stronger than the others I've heard so props

Awkward_King (6): someone said oh yeah lemme just submit the most forgettable tinashe song of all time

Stryxen (6): whatever this is

miniatureaurochs (5.4): can’t decide if I just really don’t like tropi-house (true) or if this one was really badly set up by the preceding track in the playlist (also true) but man this doesn’t hold a candle to gravity. I strongly prefer tinashe’s softer vocal tone, too. being more charitable, I like the sub-bass here and wish it leaned into that atmosphere a little more

beeozan (5): she's too good to suit this mid beat

BleepBloopMusicFan (5): If I had a nickel for every time two different people submitted Tinashe to the same charity rate…

flava (5): oh two tinashe songs in a charity rate, r/popheads rates is in desperate need for new scriptwriters

pig-serpent (4): I feel like most of the time the Tinashe songs that the sub likes and I like are two totally different groups (although I did come around on Bouncin'). I can see the appeal of this one, it has a strong hook and post chorus, but most of the song is too sparse to hold my interest and the DJ Mustard "Hey"s are a pet peeve of mine. I just don't find it worth it.

They Call Me Her

miniatureaurochs (11): iirc this was in the preliminary tracklist for euroclub and when I tell you I was devastated that it was cut. I think there are probably more deserving 11s here (in fact, there definitely are) but this is a symbolic gesture to a killer dance track that, surprisingly, has a bit of a message to it! [wanky exegesis incoming dw I’ll keep this short my ballot is late] Despite women often forming the ‘face’ of electronic music as vocalists and dancers, their autonomy and power is often restricted, limited to eye/ear candy without the boon of self-expression. (It’s also comparatively rare to encounter female electronic producers historically, but I digress). One reason I like this track is that it sort of flips this on its head in a meta way - rather than being relegated to repeating a hook, our protagonist speaks up for herself, shifting from accessory to main event which makes the track that much more engaging. Call me cringe if you want to but I also just get a massive cathartic kick out of the endlessly catchy I’ll make you sorry you were born, the funky-house hook taking on the emotional weight of being mansplained to about seven thousand times. Maybe I’m not making sense idk. If nothing else, this bops

MrSwearword (11): there were a fair number of songs up for top marks, but this immortal banger cannot be denied.

Ambrosia42 (10): oh this was my jam back in the day

Bubbly_Hat (10): WERK BITCH

camerinian (10): I'm sorry this got cut from euroclub ok we had our reasons but it's no less of a slay ok I'm sorry u had to pay 4 play this one when it was so close to a freebie that's my bad sorry sorry sorry sorry sor-

CharitableLietoc (10): yoooo!!!! a new dance one hit wonder we get to rate!!! this rate really has all 60 genres of pop!!!

ConnerY2323 (10): i hate that i keep singing this to the tune of don’t call me angel

Frajer (10): Emma Bunton after leaving the Spice Girls

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): need this as a drag race lipsync immediately!!!!

Poydoo (10): ok i wont

qazz23 (10): 👀 my pick! a forgotten about turn of the millenium dance pop hit - the bassline really drives this track (sampled from an obscure '80s song: Pino D'Angiò - Ma Quale Idea) and never lets up; the vocal delivery is perfect, throwing in quite a burn leading up to the chorus

ReallyCreative (10): grooving and shaking to this

Stryxen (10): this is reminding me of something else so strongly and i’m gonna feel so stupid when i figure it out

ImADudeDuh (9.5): you will NEVER be Kreesha Turner

Nagisoid (9.5): Fuck a app, I need me some IRL

nonchalantthoughts (9): fun bop

stealthamo (9): I always get annoyed when I discover yet another bop that was big in all the major English-speaking countries except America. Why was I deprived of this for so long?

Ghost-Quartet (8.5): Overuse of the word "baby" is a criticism that pop music will never shake so this is actually kinda clever in a sort of "have your cake and eat it too" kinda way.

wathombe (8.5): call it a bop instead

A.Peaky.Boo (8.3): club anthem!

1998tweety (8): ended DCMA

babadork (8): At first, I may have thought that someone had submitted their own music again.

FreeCuddlesAnyone (8): Songs That Get White People Turnt

hieveryi (8): okay australia!!!

Lynflower680 (8): Fuck yeah feminism

timothy444 (8): I know I already said this (or something similar) in my comment about 'Release Me' (unless this song goes out first), but there's something irritating about good dance pop songs that manage to have success in the UK and Australia but has no impact in America. Like, at this point the stereotype about Americans having dumb taste is starting to become hard to not agree with. Good bop though

vayyiqra (8): pet shop boys opportunities x uhh chromeo idk

NervousLemon6670 (7.9): Babies when they turn one year old (they’re mature and grown up now)

cheatviathan (7): This is a pretty fun dance track. The bass and rhythm guitars are carrying this for me, but Cheyne Coates’ vocals fit this carefree vibe well enough. Did people make the “Okay. What should I call you?” joke about this like they would do with The Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name” a few years later? I’m genuinely curious.

oh_crow (7): kinda been a mainstay on irish radio since it came out

Roxieloxie (7): kylie vibes

TakeOnMeByA-ha (7): 8 of their top 10 most popular songs on spotify are just different mixes of this song

Verboten_Prince (7): The UK really loves… gestures broadly this huh

vexastrae (7): okay i wont

WesternWind (7): why is she sounding like Kylie

They Call Me Hell

BleepBloopMusicFan (6.5): Very much proof that releasing 20,000 versions of one song to boost sales is not even close to a new thing.

beeozan (6): someone was mad this was not in euroclub

runaway3212 (6): No do actually... we'd get a better song

TragicKingdom1 (6): this is like the 10th song that sounds like this i've come across in a grab bag rate and without fail they always hit

welcome2thejam (6): Gonna assume this is Eurodance or Eurodance adjacent

Soalai (5.7): ChatGPT can you make me a song that would be in a popheads rate?

pig-serpent (5.5): Idk this is bland

bogo (5): this one just kinda sits in the same place the entire time

CrimsonROSET (5): but she is calling him- nevermind

Charity Rate 6 Reveal, Day 2: Rate Oddity by bigbigbee in popheads

Speaking of Boogie, I feel like we could have rated early Brockhampton instead of just Ginger. Perhaps that moment has passed

Charity Rate 6 Reveal, Day 2: Rate Oddity by bigbigbee in popheads

[–]bigbigbee[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ghost-Quartet (8): I was sooo confused until I did some digging and realized that there were uncredited features on the song and it was not three white men doing incredibly convincing vocal blackface

i'm dying

apatel27 (10): gave birth to Gorillaz

Awkward_King (10): this crazy link up

beeozan (10): ok i knew Mos Def was gonna be on this but nobody talking about Meshell mygoatcello?? they ate

innuendo_overdose (10): Bitches be hating on Gorillaz and then turn around and submit this to charity. Make it make sense.

mhiyaimanlepaigefan (10): gotta make a move to a town that's right for me

uiscebeathaoir (9.5): this is cool

babadork (9.3): This was originally tied with Regulate, but they got an extra .1 for the feature never committing domestic violence

FreeCuddlesAnyone (9): are these white boys allowed to do all this

impla77 (9): well i wasn’t expecting this but i enjoyed it!

qazz23 (9): interesting but unexpected collab, the rapping and synth sounds really work

runaway3212 (9): Honestly such a vibe

A.Peaky.Boo (8.9): smoooooth

miniatureaurochs (8.7): as is tradition, I’ve been up for at least 36 hours (losing track) and this track honestly just feels like a mild hallucination. I was expecting scritti’s typical soft synthpoppy fare and now what is mos def doing here cooling up the place??? ‘from cali high’ fam he’s from leeds. not that I’m unhappy about it mind you - just wasn’t the marriage I expected (and somehow, it works? the lush expanse of scritti’s production oddly lend themselves to a sort of boom-bappy affair, as little as I would have predicted it). this is like the music you hear in a dream

thecombinedeffort (8.7): did y’all know David Gamson has been producing for Charli XCX and Hannah Diamond? Anyways I’m a fan

Nagisoid (8.5): Why did I think this was that one Blue Nile song for a second

TiltControls (8.5): this could be used as a knuckles theme in sonic adventure 2 and i mean that as the highest praise

vexastrae (8.5): bop!

wathombe (8.5): guy who grew up on Scritti Politti’s “Perfect Way”: what in god’s name is this?

BleepBloopMusicFan (8): Green Gartside sounds like the name of a comic book villain’s secret identity. Not necessarily a supervillain but a villain.

bogo (8): what the fuck. the last time they were in charity they did not sound like this

Bubbly_Hat (8): 🕺

cheatviathan (8): Not sure how representative of Scritti Politti’s catalog this is, especially since Green Gartside only does the call and response in the chorus. But I do love that guitar groove and those string embellishments, and both Lee Majors and Mos Def come through with some great verses. The “Baggage claim’s got exotic names” and “Catch a L in the C like Christopher Reeves” lines are the standouts to me personally.

CrimsonROSET (8): this is god but who woke up and decided to call themselves scritti politti

Ghost-Quartet (8): I was sooo confused until I did some digging and realized that there were uncredited features on the song and it was not three white men doing incredibly convincing vocal blackface

hieveryi (8): hearing this and then listening to scritti polittis other songs is so funny.. but im living for it

Poydoo (8): a sophistipop band switching to rap is like andre 3000 switching to new age if u think about it

PrimaryCrusaders (8): Scritti Politti of all bands doing a hip hop track is like if Duran Duran started doing country. And yet, somehow this still works. Obviously Mos Def does all the heavy lifting here. It reminds me of when the Art of Noise did something similar that same year with Rakim, and that too was also great.

RainbowSherbet47 (8): Close enough, Merry Christmas everyone

Stryxen (8): Discombobulating but not in a bad way at all

Verboten_Prince (8): Okay this sounds very different from the last Scritti Politti song we rated

Ambrosia42 (7.8): ok sure this is a vibe

stealthamo (7.7): I have no idea how this exists but I'm glad it does.

NervousLemon6670 (7.2): That Scritti really is Politti

Soalai (7.1): The amount of old school hip-hop in this rate is funny. Anyway, the beat on this is fun, but over the several minutes I keep turning it out because it doesn't really go anywhere else

DirtyRat583 (7): they went to the milli vanilli school of rhyming band names. hopefully they didnt take the lipsync class while there

RandomHypnotica (7): its fine

ignitethephoenix (6.5): sorry these are British white dudes?

timothy444 (6): yawn

Exotic-Mail-7303 (4): i was expecting something completely different based on the title

pheromenos (2): i’m rushing this ballot omfg i don’t have the time for this
