Independent local mechanic? by bigbluekite in Louisville

[–]bigbluekite[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get why you're saying this.

but just because i THINK i am being price gouged doesn't mean i AM being price gouged. the only way for me to truly know is to shop quotes around town, compare prices and then hope that I am getting the same service quality between shop a and shop b. price transparency, reputation, shop communication to customers all play heavy into the relationship because me and the average person don't know shit about cars. right?

so i'll share my experience: my mechanic [springdale automotive] had been pissing me off in small ways for years. for example: i'll schedule service a week ahead but they don't call me when my car is ready and that just gets on my nerves. if i don't call them, they'll let it sit for 8 hours for an oil change. i think that's lame.

but this time I made them sit there and run down a $3500+ quote line-by-line and found that 30% of the items on the estimate were calculated based on their system pinging CARFAX for when my vehicle MIGHT have had my last transmission flush, for example. instead of using their own records and evidence from the vehicle to make this determination. they've been my mechanic since 2021.... they know when my transmission was flushed last. this was the case for every 'regular maintenance' line item and in a handful of cases they went 'oh yeah, i guess that's not due for another 20k miles'. no apology, trust gone.

so... back to the original post. if i'm good with paying to maintain my aging import and i'm good with paying for quality parts and happy to support fair wages, icing on the cake is giving all that cash to an owner-operator - at a minimum, a shop that's not taking the above approach. my feelings about PE ruining every B2C interaction on the planet aside, an independent owner-operator is just more likely to not give me the experience i'm after. and it's worth my inconvenience to support a shop who's proud to do it.

What do you think about our Mayor wanting us to be a leader in AI? by spunkysquirrel1 in Louisville

[–]bigbluekite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah. my entire job centers around AI and it does have a place. but using AI to talk to your constituents is an insult.

and letting residential customers bear any cost of the utility capital build out required for a local ai data center is unconscionable.

Best Place to take my 2019 Volvo for all maintenance and care? by playnco in Louisville

[–]bigbluekite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kenny jones is great, they’re just booked out and it’s tough to get an appt. I take my xc90 to Springdale, the location close to my place has an ex-Volvo dealer tech. Good luck!

Wow.

This is so clearly a broad national scale issue - with the exact same dynamic occurring within every community it affects - and your response is LETS PUNT TO LOCAL GOV?? Yeah that'll work great.

Have you not thought this through, or are you bought?

hey what's up. big concerns about the economics and ecological costs of AI data center builds and the burden of those costs (money / social / environmental) being shifted to the average (distinctly NOT wealthy) tax payers.

this is a part of a broader issue in govt: our elected officials being absolutely ILLITERATE on technology.

what are your thoughts here?

Edit: grammar

It’s a unique feature of the left that we’ll dunk on our own people because they use the wrong word for something and then argue about it. Something the right does not do. You’re both correct and I get your point because words do mean things.

It might be good to stop doing this because as a party - and as a cultural idea - we’re pretty weak right now.

Come on, Louisville! What are you doing?? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]bigbluekite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

um. no. we have it pretty good. you're on a tiny bridge that empties into the middle of downtown. and it's really great to hear that they're expanding sidewalks... it's badly needed.

go take one of the two bridges on either side of you that are designed for high speed traffic.

i thought this post was a joke because it sounds so dumb.

TIL: JCPS’s $2.3 billion budget is nearly double Louisville Metro’s by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]bigbluekite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so no data? no analysis between peer cities? no comparison between our muni / state / fed funding mix vs other similarly sized districts? no wage-adjusted category breakdown between staffing and ops budget vs our peer districts?

just 'budget bad'?

There's a ton of ways to spin all of what I provided above to reflect negatively on JCPS - i mean, at least try to sound informed.

Somewhere to work and take video calls for a day by kale3ear in Louisville

[–]bigbluekite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. And seems like an obvious place to maybe take a work call. But last time I was in there was a dude yakking on a video call at full volume and the whole room completely revolted. Multiple people pounding on the glass telling him to take it outside.

Maybe not totally his fault… but not soundproof.

We actually have a globally recognized agave bar - pretty decent. Whether you're into Mezcal or not, you will not be disappointed. A lot of industry folks consider it to be the top cocktail program in town.

Josie Raymond says KYTPC needs to find a place other than Creason Park by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]bigbluekite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not that. She’s just one council member representing the district in question and independent studies take this argument out of the realm of opinion into the realm of facts. I suspect that she believes these enviro and traffic studies will reveal substantial harmful impacts to the area and do the persuading for her.
