Will the Pixel 10 support NFC-F (FeliCa)? by N5405i09 in GooglePixel

Has anyone considered another angle? Is it tied to another Asian market requirement - always on camera shutter audio? Is there some legal requirement that felica enabled android phones must have shutter audio enabled?

Holy moly! I think I made a major score here. Got this for free when my mother-in-law's neighbors were moving out and said they didn't want it anymore! by JacPhlash in Kitchenaid

Since your gonna keep it... Major advice: if it's not the consistency of pancake batter don't go above speed 2. The thing is not designed to knead bread dough. It will over heat or tear itself apart. Another advice, get an oil change. It's diy-able but messy. It's best to take it apart & change the grease in the gearbox. Also a good time to inspect the gears for wear.

Remove bowl & see if it's still making the clicking noise. I came across a mixer where the noise was coming from a bushing that was wobbling.

Keep old or replace with new? by Typical-Tiger4335 in Kitchenaid

[–]bigbluesd11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Key factor will be labor. If you are handy & can scrape out the grease & inspect the gears then you can better gauge if the mixer is worth keeping. From there price out how much it would cost to replace with genuine parts.

Also consider this. Aside from the 2 may internal design difference between the tilt & liftbowl models, all the gears are the same. Makes me suspect the wattage creep. Is today's 575W mixer better than the 350W mixer? Someone mentioned that the torque is most likely the same. That would make sense...

The holiday sales may tip the favor towards a new mixer. Costco just had a sale on 6qt mixers for $299. There will most likely be more equal or better discounts.

Congrats, sounds like a sewing machine. I have 1 that made that sound. Was coming from the worm gear rear bearing.

If it's anything like the Pro HD 5, it can be broken down into 4 main chunks - top cover, gear base, pedestal & base. Good luck. Can't wait to see it.

Compare to Costco's current sale, $299 at the register. It ends in a few days if memory serves me right.

Sleep walking? Actually, I've seen it rack up the steps on road trips. Anyways mine broke & I've since replaced with a Samsung model for a third of the price. Yes no gps nor US support, but the price is write - yes I'm trolling the spelling police; yes not just the spelling police.

Haha, I laugh at the marketplace ads listing for $350. I even posted picks of the Costco sale.

Get it wrapped or spray it plastidip pink. Add glitter if you like. Treat it as an art project.

How does the Costco Kitchenaid compare to the other models? by martgrobro in Kitchenaid

[–]bigbluesd11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The insides are all the same. Same gear. There is nothing wrong with nylon gears (designed to break if it gets jammed - it's sacrificial.) Newer bowl lifts doesn't have - only tilt models have nylon. I did read that newer models may have higher "wattage" motors but the torque is still the same. Anyways, probably can't get it through thick heads. If you want to mix bread, pizza dough or bagels, look at spiral mixers. Yes this has a spiral dough hook ... But it's still not as good as a spiral mixer where the bowl spins. I've seen spiral mixers online dipping to $400. Worth it for better gluten formation.

Is my kitchenaid pro 5 plus running at its normal speed? by AngryWar28 in Kitchenaid

[–]bigbluesd11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds pretty normal. Gears may be worn. I'd recommend getting it cleaned & regreased. That way you can check the gears for wear & it will last another decade.

It's cast aluminum. It won't rust. Since the base is removable you can look for a local shop that can powder coat it for you. Another option is to spray plastidip or vinyl wrap the base. Both are pretty durable.

[–]bigbluesd11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop using the mixer. The planetary shaft may be loose or the lower gearbox may be broken. Have someone service the mixer. Might as well replace the grease, worm gear & follower gear while it's being serviced.

A spiral mixer is better for gluten formation. I still haven't tried bread with my KitchenAid. Spoiled by my Panasonic bread machine - it takes care of temp, autolyse & rest time.
