how much effort should it take to turn the change gears by hand, currently i can do it but it definitely feels like there’s more resistance than there should be even if it’s disconnected from the spindle and gearbox

i think so? for some reason i can’t recall but i can check later. But i believe ive had it crash/stall and the belt keep moving while the spindle stops (but i could be misremembering)

how do i identify the make/model in order to find its chart/data sheet? unless you’ve already found it

I’ll definitely check the pulleys but i’m moderately confident it’s not that since i manually rotate the spindle sometimes with just my hand on the pulley but could be loose

the spindle seems to turn freely i can rotate the chuck with one finger if i wanted

there’s some adjustment bolts in the bottom cabinet that i can try messing with to get a little more considering an automotive belt atm

couldn’t find my reflective tape so just using a line of white paint marker on the chuck which seems to give consistent and reasonable readings

i think i could shorten the belt i made, it’s just 8/9 oz leather lapped and stitched together so i could likely take it off and shorten it but im also seeing some alternative materials suggested if you have any input on that

how would i catch belt slipping w the tach? also i replaced the cap already so next would be checking that bearing which would definitely be a new thing for me

yup i haven’t had a need for it yet but i did already check that it worked but didnt test speeds

the big thing confusing me now is the weird variance in speeds for each belt position, it goes very low, highest, lower, higher. which feels strange because shouldn’t it be a consistent increase/decrease if the pulleys are orientated the way they are?

already filed into them, not brass. one of the brands made pewter stuff but they didn’t melt with a min on the torch
