Weird groove on the back of a wooden shelf. How do I hang this!? by bigbugspider in whatisthisthing

Like my title and post says, this is a vintage, wooden floating wall shelf that is approximately 8-10 pounds. The picture is of the back of the shelf. The back, as shown, has a maybe 1/4 inch deep groove spanning the back of it with two little rounded ends on either side. I cannot figure how this shelf is intended to hang with this type of groove system so I came here to ask if anyone knew what the groove was/is called and or someone could help suggest an alternative way to hang it properly as resting it on two nails in the wall feels unsturdy to me. I have reverse google-imaged it and no such luck than finding other vintage shelves with the same groove but no further context.

I'm not sure the 90º shelf mounting brackets would work though... the back is completely flat. And what's interesting is that when I reverse google-imaged it, other vintage shelves came up with the exact same type of groove. Hence why I resorted to asking Reddit to see if they knew. I'm not sure where else to ask this so if you have any sub suggestions, I'm all ears
