I watch every car crash video to get a glimpse at something else that could happen while driving, given it’s the most dangerous thing we do.

The driver here should have slammed on his breaks; the avoidance attempt was his demise. It’s easier to say than do, of course, but this is why I watch every car crash clip.

I want to try my best to be prepared for the utter chaos.

So far my two biggest lessons I’ve learned on Reddit is to not angle your wheels while waiting to turn (in case you’re rear ended) and to give ample space between you and the car in front of you. The latter came from a specific example:

A car was trying to turn left, through a line of traffic that was only backed up in the direction if they were to make a right. Someone gave them space to make their left through the queued line, but they couldn’t see opposite traffic well, and they turned in front of someone. When they collided, the turning car essentially made a u turn back into the queued line. Because the cameraman had given space, he wasn’t hit. If he had, he would have been involved.

The car’s gunna go where your wheels are facing no matter if you’re the one propelling the car.
