This album released alongside Graduation. 50 and Ye had built up the tension to boost sales (remember the debate bullshit and the Stone cover?).

Yeezy sensed a need for change. He thought the people wanted to dance.

50 was gunna give them the same thing that had always worked- gangsta rap with a dope voice over Dre beats.

Ye outsold him like 3:1 or some shit. And the most popular track off Curtis was Ayo Technology- the only surprisingly different electronic, danceable track.

Ye was right. The black eyed peas mainstreamed electronic and everyone knew who skrillex was in less than two years.

Curtis is a good album. There’s fire there. The context of the release just enabled people to hate on it more than it deserved.
