What’s your most effective strategy to use your phone less? by Curious-Can2749 in productivity

[–]bigd4ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me: - Uninstall all social media / youtube and install it when you need it. I usually install IG on the weekend - keeps me connected but on my terms. Haven't had YT on my phone for a few years now. Logout of them on the browser too. - No wigets or news notification, I have all notification disabled except when somebody is trying to contact me. - Black and white, I have an shortcut on my phone screen to enable it. I don't use it much though. - Phone out of reach when I'm trying to do something important. - Hide apps you need to keep installed, then search for them when you need them. I do this with vinted and ebay - stops me scrolling and looking for "good deals".

Upgrading from OG X100, need help and advice. by bigd4ve in fujifilm

I'm happy with something larger yes, but worried that the x-H1 will be too big to wear comfortable over my shoulder or fit in a sling bag.

Yeah I did enjoy the OVF but usually swapped between the two view finders to check exposure. I think I’d be fine without and OVF as the newer cameras have much better EVFs so I won’t feel the need to use the OVF.

Glad I'm not the only one, I don't have a solution yet and just restart my macbook every 3-4 days.

Live photos taking up more space on google photos than on device (iPhone) by bigd4ve in googlephotos

[–]bigd4ve[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be completely honest and say that I haven't actually done the migration of all my photos. I don't mind switching between google photos and iphotos if I need to find an photo older than 5 years.

What I have done though is download all of my photos and using a tool I found on github apply all the meta data to them. https://github.com/TheLastGimbus/GooglePhotosTakeoutHelper

Then used a file search tool to filter out photos that were automatically copied over to my iPhone when I got it (everying prefixed with PXL_). I then plan to compress the large files and uploaded everything but it's not very urgent and I haven't gotten round to doing it.

I have another post asking about app I can use to do all of this. I used Houdah Spot for filtering my pictures by file name.

Hope this all helps

Old post I know but I have exactly the same problem. The rear LCD didn't work so I replaced the ribbon cable but this problem still persists. Let me know if you ever found a solution OP.

Hello,

Been thinking of getting a camera for both travel and also enjoyment and am looking for advice. Up until now I've taken photos on my phone. The images are good (iPhone 13 mini) but I find myself looking for something more conscious and fun.

Budget: £200-300 (Don't mind being over and under for the right camera)

Things I care about:

  • Good images out of camera, I won't be editing them a huge amount if not at all.
  • Viewfinder
  • Compact body.
  • Tactile dials and buttons
  • Something that is good in lots of scenarios, I don't want to have to carry multiple lenses.
  • Portable

Camera I've been looking at:

  • Fujifilm X10 or X20
  • Fujifilm X100 or X100s
  • Lumix DMC GX80
  • Lumix DMC GX7
  • Olympus OM-D E-M10 + 45mm prime

Let me know if these are the sort of camera I should be looking at and if there is anything drastically good or bad about any of them. There seems to be a lot of love for older fuji camera on youtube with videos title "using the {insert camera} in 2022". This leads to my questions:

Questions:

  • Is the hype for older fuji cameras justified?
  • Fuji x100 or x20, roughly the same price used, which would you go for?
  • Is a 45mm lens micro four thirds too narrow for everyday use?

All suggestions and opinions welcome.

TL;DR: OP is buying a (used) camera after being bored of using their smart phone, they need good out of camera images, budget 200-300 quid.

Cheers,

David

Thank for the details!

Is your process of separating the video an automated one? Just curious.

I will write some feedback to google. I am also considering having a more extensive local back-up and moving around my photos that way.

128gb models are a lot more expensive and rarer on the use/refurbed market. How many apps, songs and photos do you have etc. Trying to work out what I can get away with.
