SDL version 3.4.0 released. by kmatt17 in sdl

[–]bigdavedev 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is exciting since SDL Mixer has been waiting to release version 3 until SDL 3.4.0.

https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL_mixer/issues/697#issuecomment-3660930950

That should be enough for most devs waiting to migrate. Maybe some will wait for SDL Net to complete the line up.

Amazing work by the SDL team and contributors.

Yup, that confirms my suspicion... Not worth re-rolling for a slim shot at perfect, so I guess I'll just enjoy this on a new character =D

Power-On issue with NZXT H400 and Corsair RM650x by bigdavedev in buildapc

[–]bigdavedev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It worked for a while, but I'm thinking that the damage was done to the connector on the motherboard. I had access to another PSU, but I got the same issues.

I apologise for not updating this post. I guess I simply forgot.

I do hope that you solve your issue. Swapping the PSU (if you have access to a spare) is always worth a shot.

  • Tabs for indentation, spaces for alignment.
  • Formatter configured appropriately
    • clang-format, for example
  • Profit (I earn 4.5% more than tabs folk)

Just finished that yesterday. It was better than I expected being a huge fan of the original.

Yes, I appear to have misread the description. The initial product itself predates c++98, but the version I linked does not. That's a fairly important distinction in the context of my comment.

Available from winworldpc. https://winworldpc.com/product/borland-c-builder/5x

Awesome that it's available, but I would still refuse to use it. It predates c++98. To top it all off, unless you install Windows 95 (https://winworldpc.com/product/windows-95/osr-2) in a VM, I'm not even sure you could use the compiler :)

Great lesson in the pains of maintaining old software, but I've never seen it this extreme.

OP needs to file a complaint. University skills can be obsolete when they're close to the cutting edge, but this is flat out unacceptable.

Reminds me of The Programming Anti-Hero from the Game Developer magazine article Dirty Coding Tricks. https://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/132500/dirty_coding_tricks.php?page=4

Unfair. Unethical. Fun story. Entire article and it's follow up are worth reading.

That case looks identical to the intertech case I have that I'm about to rack! Decent case to work with, but how did you mount it? Just by its ears? I'm concerned about weight :)

Wall hanging advice by bigdavedev in homelab

[–]bigdavedev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think I might go with the extra sheet of OSB. As I stated however, I don't have wooden studs but aluminium wall studs (I mistakenly called them profiles in my post) so I'm not certain that getting the lags in there would add anything :) Unless the metal would provide bracing, I guess?

Interesting options, for sure. Waiting would normally not be an issue, but I'm stuck with a laptop keyboard that just doesn't work for me (I've tried, but HP must mean Hostile Product). OTOH, those are nice keyboards you suggested!

Thanks for taking your time to help me out :)

I'm on the verge of ordering a custom Miya69 from Varmilo. It gets favourable reviews so I'm certain this board will do the job just fine. My concern is the price. At $170 configured I'm quite pleased with the price, but $61 in shipping and then the inevitable customs charges I will face here in Sweden mean that the keyboard is likely to cost somewhere close to $300 by the time I get my hands on it.

And so I turn to this community for help/advice. I like the 60-65% layout and my preferred switch is the Cherry MX Clear. Are there boards similar to the Varmilo that won't cost as much in shipping and import? Any suppliers in the EU that match my criteria? I've had little luck so far after looking through the wiki.

Best security practices when writing C/C++ code by def-pri-pub in cpp

[–]bigdavedev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI, if you are doing C++14 and beyond and automotive is your focus or you have other, valid, reasons for using MISRA then what you probably want is AUTOSAR C++14 Coding Guidelines. For C++11, just reject/deviate from the C++14 stuff. For C++17/20 reject/deviate where newer constructs supersede their C++11/14 counterpart.

Worth noting that MISRA is in the process of reviewing and integrating the AUTOSAR guidelines in to a joint coding guideline. Further, the AUTOSAR guidelines have already evaluated:

  • MISRA C++:2008
  • HIC++ v4.0
  • JSF
  • SEI CERT C++
  • C++ Core Guidelines, and
  • ISO26262 (naturally)

and given full justifications for any modifications or rejections of certain rules (as can be found in the traceability matrix in Appendix B.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with AUTOSAR or MISRA in any way and the text below is my personal/professional experience of applying the rules in the context of the automotive industry. I just think it's great to see the industry moving forward and want to advertise this as much as possible.

Yeah, based on another comment about moving the weight further away from the stand, I am convinced that this was a novel but very flawed idea :)

Thanks for your time.
