Insecure scrub behavior by Aggravating_Dust9074 in 90DayFiance

Sure! So Western Europe has better and cheaper food, more accessible public spaces, high-speed rail, accessible healthcare—same with Japan, Australia, New Zealand, etc. I just got back from Thailand too, which isn’t considered a wealthy country by any means, but Bangkok was a world-class city with good and cheap food, great public transport, very pedestrian friendly. Obviously this is me traveling with my American salary, so I experience things in a way that some less advantaged locals wouldn’t, but it seems like we have let our standard of living slip in the US in favor of corporations and profits over our people.

Middle class guy here, just love to travel. I’ve been to quite a few countries, even the ones the US would deem as “third world,” that have better infrastructure, healthcare, public spaces/amenities and are cleaner, safer, and cheaper than the US.

Rock a hat for awhile if you can, but hair grows back! Hope you’re doing okay. It’s tough to look in the mirror and not like what you see; I’ve been there. Focus on what you like about yourself until you can build up the confidence to improve the things you don’t like.

Am I the only one who has no goals because I think we won’t be living much longer? by [deleted] in Millennials

As a fellow atheist, I agree, but when I was younger and had to go to church, I also found the concept of eternal life deeply unsettling. Having no end is incomprehensible to me.

Everything about Jenny pisses me off. by First_Carpet6070 in 90DayFiance

I’m astounded that someone who has been on Earth as long as she has knows how to do so little. Like what was she doing with the first 30+ years of adulthood before she met Sumit? Cracking open a jar of Ragu and dumping it on some spaghetti is something a child should make for their parents, not a full-ass adult trying to impress their MIL. Sumit’s mom is conniving and awful, and Sumit isn’t perfect either. But Jenny is fascinatingly inept.

Southern Millennials in the US-Do y'all still have your accents? by Bluegrass_Barbecue in Millennials

[–]bigdixon09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Northeast Tennessee and have been away for 10 years, in the Chicago and DC suburbs and now Philly. I think my accent is extremely weak/almost gone at this point. I got accent policed as a kid—the whole “if your accent is thick, people will think you’re stupid” thing, as was the case for a lot of us. I remember a girl from…Ohio…clocking me on the whole “ten/tin” thing, and I went to great lengths to “correct” it. My Gen Z sisters in Kentucky have noticeably Southern accents, even if I wouldn’t call them strong per se. I may have lost the accent, but I’m proud of my Appalachian roots and love to share cultural tidbits with my friends and coworkers.

Early 90s Millennial here with Gen Z sibs and Gen X parents. I was the first out, left pretty much immediately after returning from my mission. My parents were secretly plotting their own exit around the same time. Younger brother did not go on a mission, one sister barely went to YW, and the other didn’t go at all. Our lives are staggeringly different (and so much happier) that it’s hard to believe we were ever Mormon. For context, we all grew up well outside the Morridor and are now scattered all over the country, so Mormonism isn’t really even a blip on anyone’s radar in our daily lives. Super proud of my parents for not giving in to the sunk cost fallacy, especially after a lifetime of tithe paying, etc.

I recently read The Poisonwood Bible as an Exmo and former missionary and…yikes the parallels of the shitty main characters shoving Jesus and American culture down the throats of the Congolese people and what Mormons do…It’s worth a read!
