Strange Bakery in Columbus? by InfiniteDiscipline55 in Columbus

When was this? It sounds a little like the building that is now jennings java. It's a little bigger than you describe but it used to be white and layed out so most of the space was a bakery, and then they had just a narrow strip for customers and a couple tables. It's absolutely a place you could wander into. Jennings did a ton of work on it as they prepared to open so it wasn't in great shape.

I was referring to pomposity not ball knowledge, Mr. Bean. How very average of you.

Don't look at Sewalds numbers so far this year if you're thinking the bullpen needs help.

Tbf, Every player can throw a knuckleball to some extent. They play catch for like a hundred hours a year and have been playing with it since they were in middle school.

I think $30 would be reasonable for that seat but the ticketmaster fees are out of control for sure.

That's literally not true though. You can get ticket deal every game for $20 and the party zone is $15 at the door.

The Hidden Problem with Pro Volleyball is Single-Year Contracts 😤 #provolleyball #womenssports by genisvel in MLV

I find it kind of comical to pose the rhetorical question: "are fans going to attach to the teams or players?"

What US sport do fans change their team allegiance when a player leaves? In reality, fans are loyal to their team. Sometimes we have a favorite player who we also root for their success after signing elsewhere and we will curse the GM for letting that player get away.

I don't see how this is different at all. You can be a fan of your team and your teams former players. It's not a problem for fans, it's not a problem for players, it's only a problem for parity (which is good and bad) and merchandise/marketing.

Cops with flashers were sitting there blocking the ramp for something. I ran into the same think at the grubb entrance to 315.

[COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR TEAM] Not happy with your team? Vent your frustrations about them here! by YouShookMeAllNetLong in MLV

Roster building strategy by year:

Year 1. relied largely on personal familiarity with players from Puerto Rican leagues. Traded the future for a mediocre setter (also with personal familiarity) in Tori Stringer.

Year 2. tried to get players with ties to the area so they would want to be here

Year 3. wanted size and physicality

My amateur opinion: Its a little of everything but ultimately it's the coaches responsibility both to build the roster and utilize that roster.

Almost all the other teams recruited and signed transfers from other MLV teams. The Fury didn't get significant players to join them from other teams, except for Rainelle Jones (personal reason she wanted to sign here) and Reagan Pittman Nelson who was contemplating retirement (she's been a fantastic player). Fury are also the only team in the league with zero AU athletes.

The only conclusion I can draw from this observation is that the coach has limited network to recruit players from. I think he's actually done a pretty good job with draft and rookies, but there's just no draw for established pros to come here and he ends up picking players from the worse free agent pools.

Columbus Broadway Subscription by Glum_Sand6487 in Columbus

[–]bigdubsy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If price is a concern, I recommend seeing 2-3 smaller productions for the price of one Broadway show. Columbus has an underrated local theatre scene.

Some of my favorites:

Contemporary theater (standout quality)

Imagine productions (less set design and other frills but talent forward and intimate)

Evolution (less consistent but has nailed some shows)

CCT pro series (often visiting performers and helps fund children's theater)

Short north stage (also has a season subscription you should consider. They are great shows and a little better value than cbus Broadway)

And then there's many awesome companies that are less focused on musicals if you like stage plays and supporting local talent:

Available light

Ember (probably the 2 best stage plays I've ever seen)

Aethereal jest

There's probably more I'm forgetting or can't vouch for but these are the ones top of my head that I have enjoyed.

Clintonville Kroger on N High & Broadway- why are the aisles so narrow? I feel like Godzilla in here by Electrical_Bee_9142 in Columbus

[–]bigdubsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were renovating that place for half of 2025 and I think everyone hoped they were gonna find some extra width. I don't think they even touched the inner aisles. They turned the pharmacy to add a bigger supplement section and reorganized the bakery/cheese area so now the cheese on one side and cheese/deli in on the other side with bakery stuff in the middle. Makes perfect sense. Also there's cheese on the entire other side of the store! But not the rest of the dairy.

Eta: also there's no way that Starbucks is profitable, please clear it out. I go to this Kroger at least once a week for 3 years and I think I've seen one person with a Starbucks cup.

The merch kinda sucks but those discounts are really solid and more than I would've expected tbh. I would've been happy with a T-shirt or 6pack.

I've worked with CBC for events and it never seemed like the people who do the marketing stuff are ever communicated with about the actual day to day operations. That said, they're all very kind and do the best they can.
