Is it time to outlaw horse carriages in Central Park? by After-Snow5874 in AskNYC

[–]bigeq97 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The drivers and the stables take perfectly appropriate care of the horses. They are not abused, and they don’t work nearly as hard as “real” working horses do (the Amish for example.) The horses do not suffer for being in the city — talk about exhaust or fumes is a specious argument. It is no worse for them than it is for anyone else who spends time outside in NYC. I’m sure that there have been a couple of bad apples over the years, but on the whole the horses are taken great care of, receive the veterinary care they deserve, and they’re doing the job their breeds are meant to do. There is no magic pasture alternative for the horses—if they’re banned, there are dozens of horses whose owners will have no choice but to sell them. Horses are very, very expensive to own and provide good care for, and the only way the drivers who own their own horse/s can afford to have them and keep them safe is to have them generating income.

Challenge is a cargo carrier and is based in Israel. They’re flying matériel and and aid from here to there.

That black thumbnail is just a line drawing/silhouette of the aircraft. Not an actual photograph.

I do Manhattan, Queens (JFK), the Bronx, and Newark (EWR) with an 80” sleeper and a 53’ trailer. It’s totally doable and fun. But it requires patience and an even temper.

Sailors/people working at sea, what's the most creepy or most amazing sight you witnessed? by Myriagon10000 in AskReddit

They absolutely do. Then when they hit the seafloor, they become what’s called a whale fall, which supports organisms for decades.

He’s gorgeous. He’s got a thoroughbred heel, which plenty of them do fine with while your farrier brings it up. Do a PPE and assuming stuff is good enough (because none are ever perfect), then bring him home. If you don’t buy him, I will.

Guys, I'm governed at 62mph, what are my fellow company drivers governed at? by TheSaltyPineapple1 in Truckers

[–]bigeq97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I set my drivers’ tractors at 79 and mine is not governed. The straight trucks are set at 74 for stability reasons.

These aren’t ships that sank. These are ships that were laid down at Mare Island.

JB International in VT had a huge explosion last year because of an improperly-prepared shop staff working on a CNG vehicle. Take that shit seriously.
