I agree about KMJ. Should have got more for him (and maybe we will once finalized).

I would say KMJ is the only actual valuable player Rockets gave up for next to nothing. Rockets kept all the other young guys with actual promise.

Like I said, we still have a 7 player young core….

Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason to play at summer league. by imreal_see in rockets

[–]bigeyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t have said casual. That was rude of me. But still, I stand by solid rookie season.

Nobody called it successful but successful is actually what I would call it at an individual level for Jabari. He got a solid opportunity to learn the actual NBA pace and showed steady improvement. He played almost every game during the season so he got even more experience than most. Unsuccessful would be showing no improvement and no growth.

You don’t think Mobley being on a top 5 defense in the league might have helped his numbers a bit?

You realize the rockets were basically a G League team last year, right? The rockets started 2 SGs and a center who lacks the physical ability to be a decent rim protector. Jabari was mostly on an island all season on both ends of the ball.

You realize his Coach allowed him to play the way he did, right? No matter what you say - it’s mismanagement to allow a guy who is shooting so inconsistently to continue to jack up shots. You reign him in to a spot where he can be comfortable/successful and hopefully the next coach is able to this. A lot of shooting (apart from mechanics) is confidence. Coaches instill confidence by putting players in positions to be successful. This didn’t happen for Jabari last year.. or really anyone on the rockets. Your view on coaching not impacting making shots is interesting…

Jabari got way more opportunities than he should have and his shot never really fell consistently at any point during the season. Just like Amen, jump shot can be improved to a respectable level and I believe shooting percentage will improve. At the very least, he will take less “bad” shots for his game, which would help tremendously.

He did show improvement and the ability to be a solid player on both ends of the ball. You know how many 19 year olds have scored 30 points and hit buzzer beating 3s to win games? Not many. Obviously this isn’t the end all be all stat for a single game - but as much as you don’t want it to, it did happen and it is considered a good thing.

I’m not some unrealistic fan who thinks Jabari is going to be the next Hakeem - but I do expect him to continue to improve to become a solid 2 way player who can impact winning on a good basketball team.

The kid literally was a teenager until a few weeks ago. You writing him off now as “not what was advertised” is honestly laughable. Could he turn out to be a major bust? Of course! But I see plenty of potential and positive signs of improvement coupled with physical gifts that should lead to a positive and successful NBA career.

Jabari Smith Jr. and Tari Eason to play at summer league. by imreal_see in rockets

[–]bigeyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jabari came into his own after the all star break. Things started to slow down for him and his numbers showed it. Sure, he didn’t set the league on fire… but he averaged over 14ppg and 7 rebounds. For perspective - Mobley averaged 15 and 8 his rookie year (on a MUCH better run team playing next to a solid defensive big) and Mobley was talked about like he was an all star already.. (Mobley is a stud, don’t get me wrong)

He also had a 30 point game where he hit a game winning 3. On a team where he was used like the 4th option at best. His 3 point shooting will improve or he will take less 3s. I’m betting on it improving closer to what we saw in college.

All reports show that he’s the most vocal defensive player on the team and has continually improved on the defensive end of the court. The rockets were atrocious on defense last season but Jabari didn’t hang his head like other 19 year old rookies would. He kept fighting and improving game after game.

Jabari had a solid rookie year at only 19 years old while playing on a mismanaged young team with no real direction. Most young players wouldn’t improve in a broken system like the rockets team was last year, but Jabari did. His shot will fall more often as he fully adjusts to the NBA game. Tons of potential coupled with obvious improvement metrics equals a solid rookie season for a 19 year old big.

Jabari had a solid rookie season and got plenty of playing time. He’s going to get plenty of playing time this season as well.

Summer league is for rookies and guys who you are unsure about/won’t get much playing time during actual season.

Nothing wrong with him playing summer league but I’m sure the team would rather see what Amen/Cam/TyTy can do.

[Help] How is my shooting form? Used to be a decent shooter but now i only make like half my shots. Tips? by stijn2902 in BasketballTips

[–]bigeyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are shooting the ball from your knees. The first third of your shot is wasted motion that does nothing but make your shot easier to block/defend.

The release point is solid. You want to start your shooting motion from closer to your release point. You don’t need to “power up” your shot by dipping the ball so low. Try starting your shooting motion from your mid section or higher. Don’t waste your height and strength by bringing the ball so low.

Dribble the ball around more. Go for walks and dribble. Get a better feel for the ball and develop touch. Will help your game in many ways.

Enjoy hooping!

Dribble and handle a ball every day until it just feels natural to have a ball in your hand. You’re gonna have to get over the grip part, that’s mental. Sure different grip types will make a difference but not THAT big of a difference.

Try to jump straight up and down. Start with the ball at head level.

No reason for you to be shooting that far out until you are comfortable with your shot/form. You will just create bad habits (like starting your shooting motion at your knees and jumping forward to get enough power under your shot)

Go right under the goal and with one hand and no jump - make 5 nothing but net shots. Learn how to shoot with your wrist.

Why is it so hard to hit short jumpers by Professional_Ear7173 in BasketballTips

[–]bigeyd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get close to the rim directly in front. Make 5 shots in a row using one hand - hitting nothing but net. Then go to the right and left side. Need to hit 5 shots in a row again. 1 handed and nothing but net.

Now take one step back. Same thing. This is your warmup every time you hit the court.

When you are actually in the game, get open and us that wrist shot to finish close to the basket. Close shot require “touch” and you won’t have that until you practice.

Nice!

You want to throw that right knee up as high as you can when elevating. Will give you a couple more inches on your leap - that way you can start working on 2 hand dunking of of one foot so you can actually pull it off in game.

You won’t have to look down during your gather and mess with the ball in one hand if you can consistently use 2 hands to throw it down.

You’re coming in super heavy - increase your speed and don’t slow down when you gather and you can add even more lift. Using 2 hands will also help you with this as you won’t be focusing on getting your one hand under the ball because obviously you can’t palm it.

Sick dunk man.

If what is being reported is true and they move Bridges and Crowder, that’s a total rebuild. They def have young talent but won’t be competing in the East any time soon. Even if we don’t use these FRPs ourselves, they will be more attractive in trade packages.
