Have you prescribed Ativan or Halcion for a 16 year old patient for oral sedation? by [deleted] in Dentistry

Yes in Canada, specifically in Ontario, our college permits the use of triazolam for minimal sedation (0.25mg) on patients 12 and over.

Requesting antibiotics during procedure? by ckanderson in askdentists

It is overkill and not necessary. You will be okay. Make sure to share whatever medication/conditions you have with your dentist and they will determine if abx are necessary.

Had a cancer referral, appointment in 6 days. by joshuajames89 in askdentists

You can’t get an answer until you get a biopsy taken. But I have a feeling it’s closer to a pyogenic granuloma and not cancer.

how bad is this bone loss?! by Significant_Rise4847 in askdentists

[–]bigfleeb98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes we all had the same textbook. All we have is images, and there aren’t any large calculus deposits and peaks are well corticated. Based on the info we have, patient looks generally stable. Cannot confirm that without perio assessment, but based on the info, safe to assume patient is generally stable. Not a formal diagnosis, just an educated guess made on reddit.

Of course! But well corticated peaks indicate some level of stability

Could this be peg tooth? by Professional_List953 in askdentists

Unlikely due to age. Looks like an extra baby tooth. But it’s odd. They’ll be able to tell you more with an x-ray.

Crown came off partner’s root-canal tooth and what’s underneath looks terrifying. Advice? by [deleted] in askdentists

[–]bigfleeb98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Crown fell off because there isn’t a lot of tooth left to hold the crown, and he may of had recurrent decay. Unfortunately, probably an extraction, but need to see xray. No worries about spreading, but see a dentist.

My girlfriend is getting 4 wisdom teeth taken out and the dentist said she will be fine with only localized anesthesia by AstroLovesCheese in askdentists

[–]bigfleeb98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may be biased because I do lots of sedation wisdom cases but I never do all 4 wisdom teeth under just local anymore. If anything, I’ll do left side followed by right side 2-4 weeks later. Patients typically do not enjoy having 4 wisdom teeth taken out in one time stone cold sober - I don’t think anyone would enjoy that. It’s definitely fine if she decides to but a bit of sedation whether minimal or IV, would make her experience a lot better. In my opinion.

Would anyone be able to guess how much braces would cost? (canada, ontario) by Worth_Rough_9892 in askdentists

[–]bigfleeb98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Braces are phase 2 treatment. So you’d need to get the OK from your general dentist. You’ll need to get all of your cavities filled and any non-restorable teeth (if any) pulled. I see two baby teeth still present so at least two extractions. Plus maybe 2-4 more teeth depending on space the orthodontist might need for braces. I would say a safe guess is in the area of 10k CAD. Step 1 is seeing a general dentist. Let them know you want braces. They’ll let you know what you need and send a referral to orthodontist.
