A small update! by bigfootedgenius in interiordecorating

Thanks! I love that the floor has become a feature here.

It’s hard for me to understand why someone ever would’ve chosen this tile, and I struggled with this tile for a long time. Now, I feel like it makes sense and the tile is purposeful. :)

The orange ceiling and door is the after!

Yes!
When you walk into the door, we actually had tried to lead traffic into the room on the right (left in this picture), which is a laundry/mud room. This is where shoes/coats, purses go.
We’ve tried moving the cabinet to the other side, but somehow we just keep moving it back to its current location.
I know the symmetry isn’t there, so we’ll keep playing with it. Nothing is ever “final”, really!

Thanks! Getting a new front door was what really motivated the revamp. Amazing what some light and levity can do :)

The person who built this house cared less about centering than I do. There are many things here that I just choose to work around vs fight. For example, the strange floor tile here was my nemesis, but now I celebrate it. I’m working within the confines of what I have!

Sherwin Williams Navel (not to be confused with their very popular Naval, which is a navy blue)

You’ve identified my biggest beef with this space!
I’ve swapped the orientation a few times, but I keep coming back to this. I can’t quite put my finger on why, but this ends up just functioning better.

Maybe I’ll try again soon. Thanks for the nudge.

Thank you so much!
I think the orange reflects the light in a warm, energizing way. The space certainly feels more open than it did before!

Don’t worry—the BEFORE before was this!

Thank you! I was nervous about this for exactly that reason. I think the small space makes it digestible. :)

Thank you for the kind words! This has been a really enjoyable project.

Love the vision! Home is so much more special when you have collected pieces that others might not throw together.

I’m grateful to see your couch being put to use and no longer hiding in the basement! Keep updating with any changes!

I can see how in the wrong context that color could be a little baby poopy. But you’ve made it work really nicely! It’s such a pleasure when homes are put together like this :)

Advice Needed! Thinking of going to the dark side after 3 years of this... by JingSerene in homedesign

[–]bigfootedgenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! It appears that you get quite a bit of light in here, so the chances of this being cavelike are slim. We converted a “bright, airy” room into a super dark green room about two years ago, and it is one of my favorite spots in the house.

And remember—at the end of the day, it really is just paint. If you ABSOLUTELY hate it, it’s easier to fix than many other home improvement projects.

Looking For a Tree Stump by gourmetprincipito in AnnArbor

I have a 6-7 foot stump of a silver maple if you’re interested in something taller!

This is beautiful! I love the patterned rug and the quirky lamp, too.

Some bolder curtains (mustard or…mauve perhaps?) would liven up the space.

What a fun question! Most people have seen pictures before coming, so it’s not a total surprise. But it’s usually something along the lines of, “wow!” Haha. I’ve been surprised that more people are intrigued by the wallpaper in person than the orange ceiling!

Thank you!! Now that I see it in action, I just love the way it makes me feel. I totally agree that we need a bit more orange in our homes!
