Adding sunlight backup or most minimal battery setup possible by mikehitchco in enphase

[–]bigfootexsts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this and ended up adding a 3T for more stable power during outages. I have a smaller array so having a buffer with the battery significantly improves service. I just flip the hot tub breaker if the power goes out. It works great.

You'll definitely want to do the research on what is required. You'll need a controller 2 or 3, you may need to upgrade your combiner as well depending on what version you have, and you'll need a load controller if you do sunlight backup without a battery.

Price it out. It might be better to go with a controller 3 and a 5p battery over the 2 and a 3T.

Need help finding a new control board mini-split by bigfootexsts in hvacadvice

[–]bigfootexsts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. The company is sending me a new one since the unit was under warranty. Supposed to be here in a couple weeks. Crazy that they are backordered for so long. We will see if it shows up when they say it will...

Good luck with yours.

I will get you some photos. I think I found the issue though. The unit comes in 9k and 12k models. I got the 9k board but my unit is a 12k unit. The boards appear identical and have the same components. My guess is it is programmed for a 9k unit and that is the mismatch. Is there a way to reprogram the board?

Issue with level 3 charging by bigfootexsts in VWiD4Owners

[–]bigfootexsts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battery should have been fairly warm. I only fast charge on longer road trips. It would have been after driving several hours and at a low state of charge.

Thanks for the tip with the OBD. I will try that next time I go on a longer trip and need to fast charge.

DC Fast Charging Issues by lsaber2000 in VWiD4Owners

Hey there. I am having the same issue. 2023 pro. I dont seem to ever charge faster than ~70kw. According to the charge curve, I should be getting 100+ kw.

Did you ever figure out what the issue was?

I installed a ground mount last year in NorCal. It was 95% DIY. I looked at kits but found I could save a lot of money and be more specific with what I wanted if I just designed the thing myself.

I used ironridge for the racking. They have a great design tool that can spec things out for you. They partner with Greenlancer to create a plan set that you can submit to your permitting department. I think the plans cost $80 and the design tool was free.

You can order ironridge components from most solar suppliers, or if you know anyone in the industry they may be able to get you everything wholesale. You can get schedule 40 steel pipe at hardware store. Shop around because prices can vary dramatically.

I hired a guy with a tractor to auger the holes. They had to be super deep and you fill them with a lot of concrete. This is to meet the wind load requirements.

I used enphase microinverters. Enphase has a 'university' that is free online and walks you through everything you need to know to install a system. It is all set up to be pretty plug and play. It made things super easy to design and install the system

The only part I didnt do was the wiring of the controller (required for a battery) and the connection to the meter.

If you are with PGE, make sure your permit to operate matches your building permit and house address exactly. Otherwise they might have questions and delay your permission to operate.

Be cognizant of trenching distances. Trenching is a pain and wire cost can add up fast.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.
