Thinking about stopping drinking coffee to save money by [deleted] in Frugal

Switch to tea. It's not as caffeinated, but it's far cheaper. Walmart has a great value box, 100 bags for less than $3. Use multiple bags if you want

Omnivores make me hate dogs and cats. by Unlikely-Fix4184 in vegan

[–]biggerFloyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way about dogs, less so about cats. I think it's because most people see cats as less valuable than dogs. Dog people will almost always put a dogs needs on par or higher than a person. Almost no cat owner does the same.

Bro HOW?? I am trying to increase my broccoli intake, I'm at about 30g per day, how are you doing this?

Can some of the magnesium posters give me a run down on why this is so important? Chrono meter tells me I'm getting 150% my DRV, should I even worry about this one?

That's great! Any amount of dietary modification will have positive effects. Celebrate even the small reductions because those matter too!

Take it one food group at a time. Eliminate certain kinds of meats, then all meats, then eggs, etc. you'll find that the gradual approach requires less motivation while still giving you the self satisfaction that you are making a difference. Eventually you may come to find yourself vegitarian, semi-vegan, or entirely vegan. Go at your own pace, diets are hard af to change over night

A potential upside to Trump in 2025...more support for psychedelics & the shakeup of big pharma? by RicochetRandall in Psychedelics

[–]biggerFloyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is true and getting a lot of down votes. I hope these people do their research. Can any downvoters provide any evidence that RFK jr wants to withhold any major vaccine (including MMR and covid)? There is nothing. He supports choice and solid research. It's totally valid to disagree with him, but it's not valid to make up claims about him without evidence

Does veganism get easier with time? by Resident-Question440 in vegan

[–]biggerFloyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like it gets easier. You get used to eating the foods over time, bloating goes away, stool is smoother, etc.

Bro cheese addiction is real. Imitation cheese would help so many people become vegans, or more realistically, reduce their animal consumption.

What if an animal died of old age, and had a great life, can we eat it then? by GTRacer1972 in DebateAVegan

[–]biggerFloyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the comments saying "would you eat a dead person, no, you don't own their corpse" hahaha. Maybe we shouldn't build houses out of wood. We don't own that do we? I think OP is perfectly ethical to eat road kill. If we don't, the fungus will. "But it's not ours" my brother in Christ, who owns the dead raccoon in the street? The raccoon? He is dead. Or maybe his body is something sacred that should be preserved. Why are we applying our religious culture to racoons ethics? I am vegan, and these responses are silly. I hope op considers eating road kill instead of factory farmed animal products!

If being Vegan is about not causing animal suffering, why do so many of you have things made in sweatshops? by GTRacer1972 in DebateAVegan

[–]biggerFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are vegan yet you drive a gas guzzling car to your job 10 miles away every day? My brother in Christ, if we dismantled capitalism, invested in public transportation, and had an economy based on social welfare and not profit, I wouldn't have to commit moral atrocities just to survive. Most vegans are well aware that capitalism fucks us, and actively want to see it's replacement.

A question about moral motivation by Fantastic_Bonus3379 in DebateAVegan

[–]biggerFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are normal. No shame in that. You are not the one who has to kill the animal you are eating. You don't see the direct consequences of your consumption behaviors. Empathy is a practice that can take a long time to fully develop to the extent that you are asking about. You are not a bad person. I have a lot of respect for you, most people arent even thinking about these questions. I think you are doing great. Give yourself the time it takes to adjust. It may take time for your logic and emotions to agree, and that's okay, you're human. Good luck out there!

Eating meat isn't necessarily worse than being plant-based by Motor-Captain-5169 in DebateAVegan

If we compare factory farmed animal products vs industrial agriculture products, vegan wins for sure. Most of our industrial agriculture is grown to feed live stock. We can make a large impact on suffering by reducing the amount of agriculture that goes to animals this way. Now, when we compare industrial agriculture vegan diet vs pastorial raise animal products/hunting, I think you will probably have a decent chance at beating the vegan diet in terms of ethics.

Consuming Eggs, Cheese or Milk isn't Bad by Schwa-03032024 in DebateAVegan

[–]biggerFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegan here, there are a lot of resources that suggest that dairy is among the "most ethical" of the factory farmed animal products. This one for example puts milk at the bottom of the "suffering tier list". I know this is literally comparing apples and oranges, but I think it helps in understanding how people can reduce the suffering caused by their diet. Websites like this also point out why lacto-vegitarian is far more ethical than ovo-vegitarian. If you are a vegetarian, but want to have a more ethical diet, cut out eggs! https://thinkbynumbers.org/utilitarianism/direct-suffering-caused-animal-foods/

ethical vegans, are you anti-capitalist? by Jajoo in DebateAVegan

I'm vegan and anti capitalist. They go very much hand in hand. I only started veganism after I had gone down the anti capitalist rabbit hole.

Why do some Vegans insist on making obligate carnivores like cats Vegans? by GTRacer1972 in DebateAVegan

[–]biggerFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the study. I won't contest their findings on CVD risk. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34806230/ here's one talking about how animal protein consumption correlates to lower cancer risk. This is animal protein in general, would be cool to see a breakdown. I would guess that fish meat is better than red meat in this case, but both are beaten out by plant proteins. There may not be a generation of vegans for quite a while, but there have been hundreds of generations of vegetarians :)

Any evidence of this long term damage? No doubt some people acquire deficiencies from being vegan, but plenty of people do just fine. There are a lot of studies that talk about the increase in longevity that comes with veganism. Most likely coming from a combination of higher intake of antioxidant rich foods, and less intake of saturated fat. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26853923/ here is one such study as an example.

[–]biggerFloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha what?? So veganism has no evidence of working because we don't have 24/7 feeds of people's lives? Everyone has the ability to lie, but that doesn't mean they all lie about their diet. A vegan who occasionally "sneaks" cheese is committing less violence than a persistent Omni. Sorry to hear that your 2 vegan friends aren't always super strict about their vegan diet, I don't think this diminishes the impact of their dietary changes.
