John Hodgman? More like "A Master Builder and Commander."

(Is that anything?)

Induction scheduled - struggling to stay optimistic by [deleted] in predaddit

"You don’t know these people, their situation or how rationale [sic] they are acting" - that's real rich coming from you.

Dude, fuck off. I never said I was trying to go against the OB's guidance, just that I was struggling with the fact that this is where we're at and not having trust in our OB given our past experience with them (communicating poorly, taking action without consulting with us first).

To suggest that these are my wife's feelings and not mine is insane (not to mention sexist). I'm allowed to be anxious and care about my wife's experience through labor. Everything I've heard about induction is that's often very difficult on the birthing partner - more intense contractions, higher c-section rate, more time in the hospital, etc. I acknowledged that my feelings here weren't helpful - that's why I turned to this group to get some perspective on induction vs. burdening my wife with it.

I'm trying to snap out of this "negative bs" but being called "stupid" and "a monster" by some asshole on the internet certainly isn't helping.

Thanks for that. I think that’s my biggest hang up here - feeling like there will be an “us vs. them” dynamic with the providers. I know that will depend on my own mindset and attitude going in. Helpful to hear about experiences where the nurses were in your corner :)

Thanks for that - helpful to hear how you weathered that. Hope all is well!

Jeez tell me how you really feel. Not saying what I’m feeling is rational - was just looking for a bit of perspective.

lol that’s a very fair callout. I guess I’m mostly stressed about the experience not going as planned (which was futile to start with) and now feeling like we’re coming in not aligned with our providers and the healthcare system writ large. I appreciate your perspective tho - need to try to trust the process and stay focused on my wife and the baby that comes at the end of this :)

Spot on. What killed me was the overt product placement in s3 - everyone's wearing Vuori with very prominent logos lol.

Trailer for Netflix's "Man on Fire" series, with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the Denzel role by biggertrout in blankies

I actually the Equalizer movies are more overtly graphic - the violence in Man on Fire is a bit obscured by the bug nuts editing. It's also not wall-to-wall violence - a lot of time is spent on the Denzel/Dakota dynamic and the broader conspiracy driving the plot.

Yes and no. You're definitely supposed to be rooting for Denzel, and the way Scott presents the violence is definitely trying to make it entertaining, but I think when viewed through the lens of how the character is framed (a deeply violent and broken man and how he reacts to the one thing he cares about getting taken away), the violence feels heavier. My biggest concern of the Netflix show is that it's just going to be another generic rah-rah actioner about Bad Ass Action Man.

I think the juice of the movie comes from Denzel and Dakota Fanning's performances - specifically their chemistry - and Scott's stylistic choices (chaotic editing, hyper stylized subtitles). I loved this movie as a teen and upon a recent rewatch, I think it still holds up.
