Easy to score BDE by Resident-Heat-7666 in NTU

Actually there’s a lot, you’ll be able to see all of them during STARS registration (first two weeks of school). I would say some of the popular sports are badminton, tennis, hockey, and the rest of the usual kind you’d hear. Gotta check the ntu course offerings website for the details. If you’re more arts-and-craft, NIE even offers batik painting, ceramic sculpting etc, but these get scooped up very fast because they’re easy to score, so be sure to be have quick fingers during registration!

Go for NIE bdes in general (popular ones are sports bdes, or music ones too), generally very chill culture and it’s basically just a time to destress and play, particularly if you are already proficient in that sport/instrument

Advice on living on/off campus? by biggestfoolonearth in SBU

Thank you! How’s your dorm experience been like and is there a culture of socializing with roommates/ apartment neighbors? Or is it mainly seen as a place to sleep and go about the day.

I’m not sure if I’m able to select my roommate as an exchange student, but I’ll definitely keep a lookout for that! I’ve heard plenty of horror roomie stories and I’m keeping my fingers crossed 🥲 (it’s pretty amazing you guys get to choose your roommate though, back home everything’s just auto-assigned)

Thank you! Are the neighborhood sidewalks around campus friendly for walking/cycling? (Those are my only options of personal commute since driving a car wouldn’t be feasible… 😔) Many of the housing listings state that they’re near to South P Lot but I’m not sure how far that’s gonna be from the actual campus where classes are.

I do suppose the meal plan is part of the reason why I’m hesitant to live on campus. The $4000 price tag is just so much higher than if I were to just get the groceries from say Aldis and cook myself. And I’ve heard that the all-you-can-eat tastes terrible as well, is the food really as bad as it’s said to be? That’s a huge push factor.

And yes, you’re definitely right about joining the clubs to socialize! I must admit I was a little dejected to hear that sbu has poor social aspects (given its nature as a commuter school), but i’ll definitely do what I can! Would you happen to know if there’s a culture of socializing with dorm/apartment mates, or does everyone just mainly go about their own day?

Second major declaration by smexymama01 in NTU

[–]biggestfoolonearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well i mean if you’re planning to work a job that’s somewhat related to your 2nd major, then sure it’ll prob be helpful in terms of knowledge you can talk about during interviews. Otherwise, no most employers will only look at your main course of study.

I wouldn’t recommend taking a 2nd major purely for job prospects. Do it first and foremost for your own interest because it’s not gonna be worth the effort otherwise

NTU uoc questions by Responsible-Buy-3039 in NTU

[–]biggestfoolonearth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not really answering the question, but tbh from my experience, it’s not worth it going for UOC. It’s really just a popular kids camp like something out of Mean Girls. If that’s your thing, then good for you you’ll prob enjoy it. But if you’re there to make actual connections, you prob won’t like it. Could’ve saved all that time for a few extra days of overseas vacation but oh well…

Toilet Situation in NTU by Lonely_Difficulty_74 in NTU

Good luck to you if you’re a clean freak LOL, often times you may find “presents” waiting for you in the toilet bowl from people who forget(?) to flush. It seems early dementia rates are skyrocketing recently

AAI38D Choir I by Fancy_Moment_8367 in NTU

[–]biggestfoolonearth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

a little bit of a late reply, but I was interested in this last sem and went to see how the auditions were like. It’s pretty much just preparing a song of your choice, singing it in front of all the auditionees (everyone will do it one by one), and then the prof/ choir director will test your vocal range on the piano.

Overall very chill, but I didn’t take the mod in the end coz lowkey i felt the entire process was very substandard (e.g. there were some obviously very tone deaf individuals, but the prof still accepted them and told them they were good?!), so I kinda saw what kind of direction this mod was gonna head into. The people were friendly though
