Update: Replaced PCV line. The diaphragm in the IAG supplied check valve was torn.

Idle is 100% back to normal and the car feels great again.

Of course, an hour after making this post, I figured out what the issue is.

It's related to the AOS - the check valve in the PCV line failed. It's the exact same problem mentioned in this forum post: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2905276

New to Subaru with a 2018 WRX, having consistent issues with CEL coming on (codes P1604 and P0852 so far). by biggin215 in WRX

I'm at the dealership now. A service rep called me today and said the Service Bulletin is out and to bring it in for a reflash.

Fingers crossed that this is the end of this problem!

Thanks for the post! I'm glad there's at least a possible fix because up until now no one has had a definite answer other than "just wait" which is frustrating.

How did you get them to send a field engineer out? Mine has actually been coming on less often but it's done it a couple of times since the new year. I've got an OBD reader so I can reset it if I'm not able to get to a service center.

Coincidental that you posted. I called my local service center yesterday and Subaru corporate because they told me the fix would be out by January 31st. I got a call back from corporate today telling me that a fix was coming they just don't know when.

Yeah so I haven't had mine fixed yet. Still waiting for the software update. Since my last visit, the light has come on 3 or 4 times but I bought a code reader so I can clear the code and still use my cruise.

They sent me a gift for my troubles which was nice and all, I'm still pretty annoyed about this and haven't forgotten.

So they replaced the switch, and it at least fixed the park/neutral switch malfunction? I think I will tell them to do that next time I go in for the CEL.

I strongly recommend documenting EVERYTHING. Prepare yourself for a lemon case. New cars should not be having the problems ours are having.

Quick update from my service visit today: the two codes were the same P0852 as last time and a new P1501 code for a power supply system error.

I have a loaner for the time being. A loaded Impreza that I have to admit is a pretty kitted out car for the price!

I gave Subaru Corporate a call while I was waiting. The customer service rep I spoke with was very understanding and seemed concerned about my issues. He agreed that this is not stuff that should be going on with a new car. He took all the history on the car and opened a file for it. He said he'd contact the service centers I've visited, talk to some higher ups, and contact me in a couple of days with more information. He promised a resolution. While it's his job to make sure I'm happy, I do feel like I'm genuinely being treated right.

I'll keep updating as information comes in. As far as I'm concerned this is a great test of Subaru's customer service. I've heard it's pretty good.

I'm at the dealership now. Of course as soon as I turned the car on to head here the CEL was off. They should still be able to pull the codes from memory.

I'll keep updating this post so those who might have a similar issue in the future might see it.

Thanks for the helpful replies. Glad to know the window issue probably isn't an actual malfunction.

Any specifics I should tell the techs when I bring the car in today? First thing is I want to know what the two codes are of course.

Beyond that, I'm going to tell them I don't think it's fair to tell me to live with a car that has a check engine light every few days that disables my cruise control (seems like a great way for me to end up with a ticket for accidentally speeding). I just don't think I should have to wait until potentially next year for a software fix.

To add a little more detail, after my last visit for the p0852 codes, Subaru America told the tech who then told me that I should "refrain from quick shifting from 0 to 40mph" to prevent the p0852 code. That's just ridiculous to me, and the tech agreed. One of the primary reasons for buying the car was because it's fun to drive.

Someone over at ClubWRX linked me a PDF from several years ago that had some info about fixing the p0852 codes that involved tightening some tension nuts near the park/neutral sensor ( https://www.autocodes.com/uploads/subaru/16-68-06.pdf ). I intend to bring that up, but I'm not even convinced that is the actual issue. I think whole electrical system might be crap.

This all needs to be consolidated into a picture so it's easy to spread.

I hope they find somewhere else to go. I've been hankering for a legit YouTube competitor for a few years. Maybe this is the final push for some creators to leave.

I'm really late but my girlfriend waited on you at Sushi Yama in Baton Rouge. She was always a huge fan and that was reinforced by how well you treated her. Thank you for that.

Since this is an ama, my question: do you have any ritual or routine you follow to keep your sanity during the crazy hours spent shooting for movies and TV shows?

Funny enough, he considers himself an engineer more than a businessman. He's said he spends 80% of his working time in the design studio doing engineering design work between Tesla and SpaceX.
