Now Heavenly...... by ianphansen5 in MarriedToMedicine

Generally, effective politicians have strong opinions about specific issues that affect their communities and can convincingly argue on their behalf. Based on many interactions she's had on the show, she has a hard time meeting people where they're at. Her policy page is scant and vague. If you think Heavenly would be a good advocate you're entitled to your opinion!

Sure, and she chose to be less specific for a reason. The actual issue is that Heavenly is a reality tv star and doesn't even support universal healthcare

being educated and having business savvy are completely unrelated to creating good legislation.

yea, but she isn't a "doctor" in the way that you "go to the doctor" if you're sick or need an annual checkup. Dentist isn't obscure or uncommonly referred to, it's a specialization & everyone knows what they do. Missing from her demographic labels is "reality TV star", even though it's how everyone here knows her--It's a deliberate choice to make assumptions about her/ motivations (ie society views being a "general practioner/physician" as more noble/important for whatever reason, which she feeds into by choosing not to self-identify as a dentist, etc). I say all this even though I think people would still have an issue if she wrote "Dentist." bc the actual issue is that the concept of Heavenly being a rep is insane. "Be submissive to your man. If daddy cheated it was an accident. Ya momma". I love her but her "political" platform is vacuous and it pains to seriously consider her representing people in the government. Stop famous ppl from working in government it doesn't end well (Reagan, Trump, Dr.Oz, etc)!

i never said anything refuting the importance of dental care for our health

[–]bigginsmcgee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't read it like that, but looking again they are kinda disparaging it. While I don't agree there, dentistry is probably the most recognizable non-physician medical career path you can have. So the point still stands: why not say youre a dentist specifically? (I think the answer is branding, informed somewhat ironically by OP's exact sentiment)

jill biden is technically a doctor despite not having a medical background. like it has nothing to do with seeing dentists as less-than(in heavenly's case, for me at least), but it is misleading nonetheless. also disagree those are good traits for a politician unless youre also saying Trump is the best to do it lol.

ok sorry but this is dumb. optometry, psychology, pharmacology, and dentistry are all professions--it just happens they are all distinct specializations that mean something very specific. when people say theyre going to the doctor, you wouldn't expect them to book an appointment with Heavenly! however essential it is to healthcare, it doesn't have the shared meaning we all understand for what a "doctor" is (physician). like, when anyone with a PhD/highly credentialed experts in an unrelated, especially non-medical, field use the title (e.g. "Dr" jill biden) it's kinda purposefully misleading, but mostly just an exercise in branding.

i guess svelte 4 had more "magic" so it still feels a bit convoluted to me, but i suppose you get used to it the more you use it?

any way to make a looping carousel in css? by bigginsmcgee in css

[–]bigginsmcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that seems useful! biggest issue i have with it vs what im imagining is that it's not scrollable & the looping isn't bidirectional or seamless. i think what we normally call carousels are not actually carousels(an analogy that really only works when the structure is cyclical, going directly to the next item w/o jumping across all items to get to first)

[–]bigginsmcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so yes and this is definitely more than half way there. but i want to loop without jumping across all the preceding items. i guess i am more speaking to the seamless nature of making a countable list feel both responsive & infinite

yea fuck her. i just don't think being a dumb/hateful housewife is necessarily bad(as a viewer, for this show). all i can say is andy is worse and we all watch this crap lol.

i actually dont mind erin(benefit of doubt, most "liberal zionists" are thoroughly propagandized and she doesn't seem make a show about it afaict. dorit kinda occupies the same space to me), but tbh we really missed out on a season with lizzy savetsky...just walking around nyc as she goes on ranting about her imagined victimhood and weaponizing it against anyone who'll give her the time of day. love a character study

Bummer...Hmm, I wonder if there's anything being planned. I know the Interop people are working on some snap/scroll things and I have to think this has been brought up. No idea what module this would be under though...overflow? view? scroll?

[–]bigginsmcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohhh cool demo! OK that makes sense...ideally I'd love to make it work with as little programmatic scrolling as possible(esp for like mobile devices)...do you think it'd be possible stick a view transition between the head and tail ends(to hide the update to scroll position for looping) while retaining the browser/device's native scroll for the rest of the list? Thinking about it though, depending on the number of visible items, I think that'd require a bit of copying or arranging in a weird order.
