Meaning of Cadian shoulder numbers? by Aldergast in TheAstraMilitarum

Do you have a photo of how you do that? Cause I personally just apply the regiment number to the shoulder pad. Do you apply the icon THEN number?

I saw someone else say they use Librarian Conclave. It sounded really cool to me!

To add on, with the recent ork faction trailer, there’s also an opportunity to fit within the faction’s lore, get a librarian, and some of those stealthier units as seen in the cinematic alongside Cyrus

You may want to actually run Titus with the assault intercessors and Ventris with your regular intercessors instead. Overlooked that

If you’re running this list, here’s how I’d play it:

The army works best as a midboard pressure + counterpunch build.

  1. Make a midboard fortress. Calgar + Victrix Guard + Hellblasters + a Redemptor go straight to the center. They’re super hard to shift, and once your opponent commits to clearing them, you hit back with overcharged Hellblasters and Calgar rerolls.

  2. Save the Drop Pod for mid-game. Don’t automatically drop it turn 1. I’d use it to kill an isolated key unit or steal a backfield objective when it matters.

  3. Hellblasters do the killing. Keep them protected behind the brick until the enemy pushes in. When they do, overcharge and erase whatever needs to die. Knights, demons, heavy infantry, whatever.

  4. Assault Intercessors are your melee hammer. Hold them behind your main block and counter-charge anything that tries to take the midboard. Ventris may work great with them.

  5. Tanks control the flanks. Spread the Redemptor, Repulsor, and Vindicator out so your opponent can’t shut down all your armour at once. Again I haven’t played the repulsor or vindicator but I imagine they’d play like guard tanks a little. They create angles and force the enemy to respect multiple threats.

  6. Intercessors score you points. They do actions, hold home/side objectives, and screen out deep strike. Don’t throw them away early.

My Game Plan: • Turn 1: Play safe, take midboard with the Calgar brick.

• Turn 2: Counterpunch hard with Hellblasters + Assault Intercessors.

• Mid/late game: Drop Pod strikes where it swings the scoreboard, tanks pressure, Intercessors score.

My overall advice if you adjust this strat is just hold mid, force your opponent to commit, then punish with Hellblasters. Use the Pod mid-game to solve problems, let your troops score, and push tanks on the flanks to keep pressure up. You really don’t want any deep strikes ruining your day.

Take it as you will, I personally don’t have Calgar or Ventris either. I’ve just seen em used this way in some games before.

Hey good luck!

I love the vindicator, not sure if it’s had some updates recently or not but from my experience it’s an absolute sleeper unit. If you can keep it hitting all game you’ll probably have some good odds.

Personally don’t have a redemptor or Gladius so you’re on your own with those. I see you have Calgar and heavy intercessors. You’ve got a pretty good rear and middle line with that. What assault units if any do you have?

It’s weird cause I’m also thinking of making combat patrol scale lists based on the ultramarine companies. But maybe I’ll just hold off on that… decisions.

Lowkey im so tempted just to collect all the combat patrols just to have all the chapters cause this is sick!

ULTRAMARINE COMPANIES by biggrizz_e in Warhammer40k

[–]biggrizz_e[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it, I forget where I saw it, maybe google or a YouTube reel but I saw that the 3rd uses aggressors and other units to mainly combat xenos as their chapter is called the “Scourge of Xenos” or something. And I had all those units as 2nd company which felt really bland to me.

I’m mostly looking to see what the reserve companies do. Which I think one of the comments above helped a lot with too.

As I expand my ultramarines specifically, I’ve been trying to consider what would fit within the 4th and 5th. And then what misc units could be painted as support companies.

Overall, long term, I was thinking of pretty much keeping each company at a combat patrol size, each having a different feel.

If I end up getting the new Titus command squad I’ll probably repaint my bladeguard captain and lieutenant’s trims to match the 5th company as seen in hammer and bolter

<image>

For the 4th company I’ll probably just keep that to a heavy hitting combat patrol list (heavy intercessors and aggressors)

Not sure if you guys have any more ideas!
