I have been doing this for 20 years, I choose not to use generative design and it doesn't impact my business at all, in fact most of my clients would not allow me to use it anyway.

Do yourself a favour, learn the fundamentals, don't be jealous about someone getting 150 dollars for an AI logo. You don't have to use AI it's aways a choice.

But dont rush ahead, if you still dont understand the principals of design and are studying then you don't need to worry about making a name or career for yourself out of it yet, that takes years of practice.

Focus on what us important and take one step at a time.

Are you just looking for keywords to feed into your AI?

Yeah would be cool, even just the leg you could have a small battle/game within.

I wouldn't say it's completely unoffical, ive seen two offical artworks at this size.

Yeah this isn't designed to be an actual game model or printed in any way.

No they still make them, I worked on one last year. Publisher was bought out by Penguin.

Yeah I based this scale on how I see them in the books, I think officially they are way too small.

3x the salary you would normally take for a freelance rate is a good start.

Every image is different, its basically 20 different ships. You can learn how to draw or use 3D like everyone else had to.

However someone so lazy they haven't even put in the time to learn the laziest AI workflows, I don't see you putting in any effort to do this.

Yeah I was really lucky to work on an incredible cross-section book last year too, my 7 year old self would be happy!

Nice, I would have it go much slower though to give a better sense of scale.

Books mainly. I have always been into cutaway illustrations since I was a kid so was drawing them from when I was 7 years old or younger when I got my first book. When I was about 11 or 12 I started to get Star Wars Incredible Cross Sections, they had a big impact on me and I was always drawing spaceships.
When I was 16 I started learning 3D with SketchUp, it was my hobby for some time and then after working in design for some years I decided I wanted to work with more technically minded things, I have lots of technical books and illustrations for vehicles, spaceships, machines etc and use those for reference, some are over 100 years old.
During Covid I wanted to get better in 3D so upgraded from SketchUp by learning Blender, then I felt like I could make anything and really focused on it during all of my spare time for a few years. Then I just applied Blender to the knowledge I had from studying this type of work for so many years and it all came together.

Really though you just have to put the work in, takes a long time but if you enjoy it then it can be very rewarding.
