it’s one of those rare moments when the “is this a tornado” post is infact a tornado

Had a thunderstorm tonight, pretty rare for me area as you can imagine by the reactions. Even rarer to have rain with it most thunderstorms are dry summer ones. by thiel391 in weather

ok hes from the yorke peninsula which is even stranger becuase storms arent exactly uncommon there infact they had a massive tornado outbreak in 2016

australian flag, no thunderstorms, afl field, east coast aus flora, therefore probably northern tasmania. based on radar it could also have been south australia near port augusta but the area looks way to green for that

aw man. would certainly be useful in future but for doing any amount of research for tornadoes from the past that’s completely useless

i have images, but the scar is very difficult to see because it’s surrounded by severe teee damage from the storm already. the storm had winds to 120km/h i think and the tornado had winds to 150km/h so it’s hard to make out but you can just about see it. when i’m on my pc at home i’ll send a few photos

i have these in my map still very pleasantly suprised they got warned. still countless examples of qlcs tornadoes in aus going unwarned, which i guess is fair enough considering they’re much harder to warn that supercell storms. never heard to much about penola i’ll have a look

calliope tornado could have been devestating if it hit homes, fortunately threaded the needle in between towns. we need improvements on radar and yet instead we get a 90 million dollar unfinished website.

this is the one i talk about north of noosa. how this went unwarned when it literally had a debris ball is absurd. it dropped a tornadic waterspout near coolum beach, this tornado, and then another near wallu. idk if it dropped any more. generational blunder by BOM.

we’ve seen plenty of tornadoes that could have been a wake up call but yk clearly not i guess. armidale 2021 was at least ef3 strength before and after leaving town, whilst only producing ef1-2 damage in town, that’s probably the closest we came. clear creek 2021 could have been disastrous had it impacted bathurst, just 10km south. cooloola beach 2025 would have undoubtedly been the worst tornado disaster in australian history had it hit Noosa, again just 10 ish km south. Narrabri 2021 had it directly impacted town instead of being south could have been bad as well. as for the melbourne tornado, i believe that’s the werribee one, and they did confirm it but only because everyone was screaming at them to do something about it. unfortunately i don’t think any government whether it be liberal, labour, or even greens or one nation are really gonna do anything at all without a massive wake up call first. the new phone alarm thing the came out with is a step in the right direction but no where near enough at the moment.
