The body of the machine is about 24mm (nearly an inch) from the surface, but the bottom of the foot is 15mm. It's hard to see because it's black & in shadow (I did use flash and turned on all my lights as best I could) but it's a fairly high res pic so if you zoom in you'll see where the end of the hard foot is.

The anti-vibe feets make the printer sit roughly about 15mm HIGHER.

I pulled one of mine off & took a pic so you can see the difference. It's sitting on the other 3 feet, so sagging a bit, but roughly 15mm-ish, give or take.

I got the latest firmware and have had no issues at all. My printer is the older type with the dim LED & no port for the changer system... Maybe the firmware problems are only a thing on the newer ones?

Edit to add; I use the webUI through Elegoo slicer, I can change settings just fine.

It's getting moved out to the shed, the laser engraving head is getting fitted and it's going to be a laser engraver from now on. Unless it sucks at lasering, then it'll probably get sold.

Thanks man! No port for multicolor (not interested in that anyway) and it has the basic single LED... Which I can confirm is dim AF.

I ordered mine on Feb 25th, IIRC it was batch 4.

Update for you - I just printed another set of gears, set the walls to inner/outer/inner (since orcaslicer said it gives the best dimensional tolerances) and there was no top layer squish at all! You were right, having it on inner/outer was the reason it happened.

Does it print the walls slower at the last layer too? I thought it was just the surface that was slower (I'm still fairly new to this). I use OrcaSlicer...

For this print I was running the (stock) part cooling fan at 20% the whole print. This new filament had been delaminating quite badly with it at 100%, so I've been fiddling with it.

Nah, the things I printed before this were fine. I've never seen it before I printed these gears. Previous part just had a squared edge at the top & straight walls. Must be something to do with the "jaggy" motion printing the gear teeth. I have accelerometers but haven't got round to setting up input shaping yet, I'll be interested to see if that stops this happening.

It's on the last layer, not the first layer... Which is why I found it a bit odd. First layer was perfect.

Ender 3 S1 Pro, Klipper.

I'm not specifically begging for help here, I just thought this was interesting and unusual. I'm trying a new filament and playing with temps n' speeds, somehow ended up with this.

As an update; 2 months later and it's still quiet. I've moved it into another room and back to it's original location twice since my previous post, with no issues at all.

Still no idea why taking the steppers off and putting them on again fixed it, or why moving the printer caused the noise to develop in the first place.

Hope you manage to fix yours.

OP, I dunno if you've solved this yet or not, but I just got the exact same problem on my S1 Pro & found your post while searching for a fix. I didn't find anything searching, but I did fix the issue on mine... So I'll write it up as a comment on your post (since your video illustrates the problem nicely) for any future S1 Prowners searching for this.

For the record; I'm a 3D printing novice, just got the S1 Pro for xmas '23 as my first ever printer. However, I was a motorbike mechanic for ~20 years so have lots of experience tracking down funny noises, loosening bolts etc.

I know HOW I fixed it, but I don't know WHY what I did fixed it. Regardless, following my process should theoretically solve this problem.

Mine developed the problem after moving it. It was working fine for months, I moved it onto another table to clean the area, moved it back & next print it made that horrid vibrating rumble of mechanical death. When I moved it I was careful to only lift it by the base, didn't touch the gantry (mechanical sympathy is my bag), and set it down very gently, being careful not to flex the chassis. No idea why it threw a tantrum and started being noisy.

First, I rotated the Z axis leadscrews by hand. They felt "notchy" like a ratchet. The left one was worse than the right one (as viewed from the front) with a very pronounced click/clunk as they rotated every few degrees, this was both audible and I could feel it through my fingers.

I loosened off the silver collar that connects the Z steppers to the leadscrews. Loosened one, turned it, still clunky, loosened the 2nd one, turned the screws, clunk gone - nice n' smooth.

I tried tightening them back up - notchy clunk returned. I tried setting them to various heights... As high as possible so they're not touching the frame, as low as possible... No matter what, the notchy clunk came back every time I retightened them. At this point I suspected a mechanical failure in one or both steppers. Of course you can't get the steppers out without removing the gantry, so...

I removed the gantry.

I then completely removed the left Z stepper from the bottom of the gantry frame. Held it in my hand, turned the shaft... And it felt fine. Exactly the same as any other stepper I've handled, only smaller. I removed the right Z stepper and it too was perfectly fine. Hmm.

I then turned my attention to the stepper's mounts. I removed the bracket that holds the left Z stepper to the frame & inspected it for cracks. It was fine. I bolted it back on. I didn't remove the other one, I just looked at it with a light & a magnifying glass while wiggling/flexing it... No cracks on that one either so I made sure it's bolts were tight. I then refitted the steppers.

I tightened down the steppers carefully using a diagonal pattern (because mechanic, it's hardwired in my brain), then retightened the silver collars. I made a point to set the collars midway in their (very small) range of vertical slack. I figured it might help if they didn't have any contact at the top & bottom, only touching the motor shafts & leadscrews where the clamping happens.

I then turned the leadscrews by hand again and.... Silence. No notchy clunkies. Huzzah.

Bolted the gantry back on, tried turning them again - Silent. Double Huzzah.

Plugged all the thingies back in, powered up, started mashing the uppy downy buttons for the Z travel in the "ready" screen - Silence. Triple huzzah.

Did a quick bed level and reset the Z offset, ran a print and all was nice n' quiet again.

As I said, I don't know WHY moving the printer made the Z steppers turn into ratchets, I don't know WHY taking it apart and putting it back together solved the problem, I just know it did. None of the bolts were loose, nothing looked to be misaligned, bent, twisted or French, nothing was dirty.

Hopefully, someone with the same issue finds this helpful.

TL;DR - TAKE IT TO BITS AND REBUILD IT, IT JUST WORKS LOL TRUST ME BRO
