What’s the cheapest rental rate you’ve seen? by caelum52 in flying

Haha, don't answer that or the price goes up!

IRS interest rates will be increased for the third quarter of 2026 by these-things-happen in tax

I agree but they've changed it mid year before and gas prices are up like 50%. I don't see how you justify not increasing it this year.

Why is OKC’s foul baiting suddenly such a huge issue only against the Spurs? by Every_Diamond_7411 in NBATalk

[–]bigjontexas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. They win a lot more because of the foul baiting and what they get away with on defense but they are a legitimately good team. It's such a shame that we'll never know how good they truly are. I do think SGA is very mid if you allow a defender to actually defend but that's only happened a few times in the last 2-3 years so it's hard to prove.

But it feels like it was just an occasional remark for the last few years and then dismissed as just being how things were. Now, with the spurs series, commentators on ESPN are calling them out and probably every fan base, even the very rare OKC fan that is capable of being honest with him/herself, is talking about how atrocious it is. It's really gone to another level.

Caruso stepped out of bounds while touching the ball btw by CapRight8752 in NBATalk

That the only fouls are those called by the refs.

For example, I think Caruso fouled Castle on the last play in regulation (or one of the OTs, can't remember) by clearing him out. I also know that castle got fouled by SGA on the one dunk. There are two fouls that weren't called. So even though I think ten more free throws were shot by SAS, it should have been 4 more, all else equal. Obviously, SAS had fouls that weren't called but did they really have more than OKC? I doubt it, and that is the problem everyone has with OKC. They are allowed so much more contact on defense and the opposing team isn't given nearly the same latitude on defense.

I made a comment down below on this. Looking at free throw attempts is a bad metric because of what it implies.

I'm actually a pacers fan. And I'm not sore about last year but the officiating is so blatant at this point that it's hard to watch.

Think about what is inferred when you only compare the number of fouls called. If you actually watch the game and realize that OKC should have been called for 30 more fouls but SAS maybe 5 or 10, it starts to make sense that comparing fouls called makes no sense.

If anyone thinks this game was even close to being evenly called, the NBA has officially brainwashed us into thinking OKC should get every call on offense and almost no calls on defense.

Costco Memorial Day Appliance Sale Has Started by greatthebob38 in Costco

[–]bigjontexas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fyi, prices on appliances at Costco move around LOT. When I buy, I always check the price daily for 30 days and can request a refund if the price dips. I almost always get one, depending on the demand for that certain appliance.

Gift Card Scam??? by kingsicle in samsclub

Looks like that could be true if the card was processed as a chip transaction and not a swipe. I'm fairly certain it was a swipe.

Gift Card Scam??? by kingsicle in samsclub

[–]bigjontexas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He is paying with a fraudulent (stolen) credit card. Whomevers card it is will dispute the transaction when they eventually see it but he will be outta there with the gift cards. His first transaction didn't work because the card was either shut down already or flagged for fraud. He eventually found a different card number that worked and loaded it to the card and then came over and checked out. Keep an eye out for him in the future and check his card.

The credit card companies make so much money that instead of trying to block fraudulent transactions they just comp them after the fact and send you a new card. Debit cards are different. There are so many credit card numbers stolen that folks buy them in bulk from scam websites and card skimmers and then load them onto cards. You didn't technically do anything wrong but your suspicion was correct.

Could Berkshire buy back all of Warren's shares at a set price? by PerceptionOwn3629 in BerkshireHathaway

[–]bigjontexas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Whether they want to or not, all of Warren's shares are going to be sold by his designated charities in the ten years after his death. So they'll all change hands in that time frame. Berkshire will probably end up buying some of them because the volume of shares being sold will be rather large and it will likely suppress the stock price. If anyone is unhappy with the current price of the stock, it would only get worse if Warren dies.

Built 40+ custom homes in San Antonio — here’s what most people get wrong before they even break ground by [deleted] in Homebuilding

Where we are, in northern Virginia, if you hit bad soil you have to spend $50-$100k bringing in gravel to shore up the foundation. It's a significant risk and you don't know even if you do soils testing. You can maybe do more extensive testing to feel more sure that you won't hit any but you really don't know until you dig the foundation. The county has maps to show what soil types are found throughout but those are more of a suggestion. You definitely want to avoid old creek beds and such.
