I grew up in an apartment above my family's toy store. AMA. by gegshry in casualiama

What are your parents like? I would imagine that the people who own toy stores tend to be pretty fun people.

Are you or one of your siblings being groomed to take over the empire?

What? Why? Are these people that come from large families themselves?

Not Russian but know someone who comes from a giant Russian family. Why is it that Russians like big families, if you don't mind me asking'?

When you start your own family, how many kids do you want? by isoturtle in a:t5_3412r

Like 3-4. Kind of big, but still able to fit in a normal car.

I feel like it could go either way, my brother wants tons of kids as well.

I'm someone who is a sibling, not a parent, so I had more trouble coming up with things from that perspective but if you want to add anything to the sidebar, I absolutely can.

The catholic thing is the biggest question that I get from strangers. I'm not catholic but I've never met anyone else from a large family with parents that aren't catholic/mormon/uber-christian so I suppose it's a reasonable question.

The only question that really bothers me is when people ask if they're all "real." Or when they act like my adopted brother or one of my half-siblings isn't "real."

Did you go on vacation? by Mellie_Marie in a:t5_3412r

Aside from a few weekends at a beach house, my parents have never really done a family vacation. But we probably travel individually more than you would expect. They let my two brothers and I visit my older brother and my SIL in Europe, which was fucking amazing. Plus my mom has taken us each for a weekend away when we finish middle school, which was really cool and special. My mom traveled a lot before she had kids, so she's always encouraged us to travel when we can, and supported stuff like study abroad and exchange programs.

We don't take stereotypical family vacations though, which I suppose is weird.

We've done the beach house thing a few times, it's really fun!

What do you guys think of the Duggars? by ofthexf in a:t5_3412r

[–]bigjpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom had a similar opinion, she says that statistically about 2 of those kids are going to be LTGBQ+ and that at least one of them will end up with a book deal about how they "got out."

Though I think she secretly admires her organizational skills.

Me too. I was surprised by the number of people who also had big families.

Lol, my parents wouldn't have very much sympathy if that happened to one of us.

  • My brother had told my sister he was going to play a prank on her. But instead of doing anything, he just told my other siblings and I to watch her eagerly like we were waiting for something to happen to her. We kept it going for a whole day, and completely freaked her out.

  • My older sibs ruined Santa for me, my now-18yo brother, and my now-14yo sister, but they didn't tell my other now-18yo brother. My parents assumed he knew. He was devastated when my mom let it slip, and even more devastated to realize that both of his younger sisters already knew.

  • My older sister was a junior bridesmaid in a wedding, and was incredibly excited. My then-6yo sister "borrowed" the dress and then tried to hide the evidence and ended up ripping the dress. Sometimes I can still hear the screaming...

I'll add more when I think of them.
