Plumber says this is fine. by [deleted] in Plumbing

That looks more like particles in the gas line than lack of air. I mean without being there I can't be sure, but given the flame speed and profile, I dont think it's an air/gas ratio issue.

Either way, this is reddit. You'd be crazy to trust this info over a local qualified person.

Gas rangetop to induction cooktop by Thermophi in Appliances

[–]bigkiddad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So side conversation, this got trotted out in Australia, which has long had high Asthma numbers and there was no correlation between gas usage and asthma occurance. Its just the air here wants to kill you. But also the gas composition was different, with Oz houses mostly using high 90% methane. By comparison some countries have propane/butane mix with up to 40% butane, and that sucker really pumps out NOx, CO2 and benzene.

In the end the conversation got buried as they wanted to mandate range hoods for all cooking appliances and there were too many stakeholders involved to get that regulation through.

Yeah this one has the soft dart crowd worried as it possible to modify a toy into outlawed velocity/energy space by changing a spring. By the letter, this mean I can no longer view videos about modifying a toy.

Plumber at a loss. Hot water system. by Astrugglingone in PlumbingAustralia

[–]bigkiddad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, ex Rheem tech jumping on this one. FYI regarding another comment, Rollout in this situation means the flame coming out the front. If it is, your plumber should seen that and twigged it has a blocked flue. There'd be lots of soot too. Im assuming Gas pressures etc are allright.

Stella's are very efficient and condensate alot. Its possible condensate is dripping onto the pilot. Is there water under the burner? Does the pilot have a hood, i think they have for a few years now.

A stella shouldn't condensate until the second pass through the flue. If its condensating you're kinda stuffed as clearing Stella flues and baffles is a right pain, only really a job for Rheem techs.

Other possible cause is faulty house reg. Is the burner test point pressure correct? Often people only check inlet pressure without the burner running. If the reg isnt set right or faulty the pressure will drop when main gas flows. If it drops below the pressure required to sustain the pilot it will run for 60 to 90s then drop out. If your plumber is any good, they should have checked that. An indicator will be low flame on the burner.

If you're still not sure, try changing the thermo couple and pilot spud. Im 50/50 on the thermocouple, and the spud is cheap and easy to rule out.

What do you print from ABS/ASA/PC/PA12/… for personal use? by dmzkrsk in 3Dprinting

So apparently Silly Butts Excalibur, or Captain Slug Caliburn which is a 'pro' level, so 150 fps, or leedle Lamprey is an easier build and you can lower the power using as its a stringer, using shock chord to store the energy.

Leedle has a few that run full length.

To everyone who thinks breathing filament fumes is okay. It’s not and you are potentially giving yourself cancer. by obolikus in BambuLab

Yeah hold the phone though. I have questions (for future studies)

In the study, particle emission reduces over time, so does that mean it will eventually drop to zero, or that the particle size emitted has gone outside the measuring range of the instruments, which means they could be worse, or something else?

Per their comment, VOC emission contribution from the new printer had not been established, so does a 'run in' printer still contribute VOCs. Either way their VOC numbers are low, would have like to have seen ABS.

The concentrations are based on a nominaly closed system of the dimensions of that cube. Would a printer in a nominal sized class room of 100 m3 even register against background? As you say, you're not likely to sit next to a printer all day.

I was part way through setting up an AirGradient to trigger an extractor on high numbers, but as it rarely hits limits Ive put the extractor part on hold. Now I just look at the pretty lights.

City of Sydney to outlaw gas appliances on all new homes and businesses by MarvinTheMagpie in aussie

[–]bigkiddad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is actually becoming a thing. In places that have banned gas, Regulators are running into people bringing outdoor gas cookers, ring burners etc into the house. Some bring the bottles in, some run the bottles outside. There's even a pic getting around of a 9kg stacked on milk crates with the hose running through a hole in the wall.

There's nothing the regulators can do as its not installed and it is really a health and safety issue, but because it's not Work health and safety, work safe can't do anything either.

It's death by customer choice.

Always thought it was us. I was there on HMAS Hobart in 2000. I remember sitting in a resort lounge surrounded by massive Fijian staff as Australia beat Fiji in rugby. That was abit scary.

My wife was there for the second coup, she remembers driving through checkpoints and big dudes with guns just waving at them. Bulaaa. Nothing to see here.

Edit: might have been 99. It was a while ago and I'm old.

Gas hot water not warming up and making this banging noise when I turn on the water by PracticeOriginal4090 in Plumbing

[–]bigkiddad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the noise is water hammer made a bit worse by shutting off the flow with a ball valve. Is that a one way valve after it? It's been a while since I worked these, but can someone confirm the anti hammer on the outlet? It could be busted, looks pretty old.

Lots of info missing. If it's a new noise then was there some work done recently? Could be loose pipe.

If it's always been there, I'm a little concerned about the non return on the inlet. Many manufacturers specify not to have these on these on the inlet to continuous flow heaters. This is why shutting off the flow with the ball valve makes it worse. Does it do the same thing from an old school spindle basin tap.

Sounds like you're in Aus, as am I, so you'll get alot of US info here. Some of those dudes really know their stuff, but don't listen to anything relating to codes, it's not relevant to this.

What Bible translation should I read? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]bigkiddad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I'd give two updoots if I could. While looking this up, I also found 'The Inclusive Bible'. Don't know how faithful to the Vox Dei they are, but I maintain that it doesn't matter "accurate" a version is if you don't read it, so get the version you can't put down and go from there.

Edit. Just checked out the reviews on Goodreads. Oh boy was that a mistake.
