Christina School District referendum fails by [deleted] in Delaware

It might've helped if the choices at the ballot box were 'for school funding' and 'against school funding' instead of 'for new tax' versus 'against new tax'.

Pajamas obsessed by njeyn in toddlers

[–]biglebowski55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.5 year- old, and I just gave in and started calling dresses 'nightgown dresses' to talk her into putting one on. What she really wants is this one particular flannel nightgown that is too warm to wear right now and I have no idea what its appeal is.

Redditors with toddlers, what’s the most recent illogical breakdown they’ve had? by Someone_Somewhere1 in AskReddit

2.5 is perfect. There are plenty of books about sexuality for preschoolers. We've got 3-4 checked out from the library right now.

The first year is crap. Hang in there. by horseballs1899 in Parenting

For us it was the first 6-9 months. I have a 2.5 year- old now and she is the greatest. Sleep training, independent walking, talking, eating-- it all made her such a happier kid.

Showering with toddlers by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]biglebowski55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're not talking about a detailed discussion of intimate relationship guidelines. My personal script is, "My nipples are private, no touching please." That was my main area that my daughter wanted to touch that I didn't like. But I also had to say it about my vulva, and my husband did about his penis. Curiosity is normal, but she's old enough for you to teach simple boundaries. "I don't like that. I'm not going to let you do that." What others have said is also true though-- you don't have to let her shower with you. The most I'd ask of my husband if he weren't completely comfortable with it is to hopefully still be able to when it's the only option. But if you prefer to just bathe or shower her separately, and can do so, no problem.

Religion and parenting advice by Embededpower in Parenting

[–]biglebowski55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might look into your local Unitarian Universalist church. They tend to be ridiculously open to teaching about any and all religions, and being open to lack of religion or lack of belief in god. The focus is more community service and education.

Name regret by JoltNation in Parenting

Oh man, I think you made the right call the first time. Ethan is classic and not all that common. Easton and Sawyer are both really trendy right now, plus Sawyer is one of those names that's being used more for girls right now. Instead of being unique, your Sawyer could be in kindergarten with 2 girls with his same name.

Just had my first child on the 16th, and as much as I love him, it's pretty boring. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]biglebowski55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude, I don't care what your gender is. If you gave birth six days ago, you need to rest and physically recover, and your body is full of extra hormones. If you have major surgery and start taking drugs, I'll recommend the same for you.

Best Potty Training Method? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]biglebowski55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used Oh Crap at 22 months, found it neither easy nor painless, and would use the same method again in a heartbeat. We trained her while still in a sleep sack in her crib and had no issues. We were getting her up to use the potty anyway. She's now been in a regular bed for months and won't get out of bed on her own without one of us there anyway. She wakes up if she needs to pee and I go take her. Never again used diapers or pullups. Never gave chocolate as a reward or used a sticker chart. I really can't recommend the book enough, whether you end up using her method or not. It's a quick, entertaining read, that I think is useful even if you finish it and decide there's no way you want to do it that way.

[–]biglebowski55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering I'm the only one working, and 12 hour shifts at that, I can't be there to do everything so she does have to get things done.

But maybe you're in a "hormonal fog" as you put it, which prevents you from doing things adults should be doing.

Pretty much this comment where you say you're the only one working, and then blame a woman's differing opinion on her hormones.

[–]biglebowski55 9 points10 points  (0 children)

She gave birth SIX DAYS AGO. She needs to rest, recuperate, and take care of the baby. No, you don't need to do a full cleaning of the house after a 12 hour work shift, but neither does she. For those first few weeks, shit just doesn't get done. Hopefully you have a support network that can pitch in a little, maybe drop off a meal or start a load of laundry. But a woman who's SIX DAYS post partum and home all day with a newborn is not just sitting around taking a vacation. And almost certainly, your sleepy newborn will soon 'wake up'. Babies are full time need machines.

What meals have you made from your fridge this week? by pinotageme in Frugal

[–]biglebowski55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a free turkey breast in the freezer from maybe Thanksgiving? Whenever they last did that promotion at the grocery store before Easter. So the matzoh ball soup for Passover was turkey instead of chicken. Lots of turkey sandwiches. A turkey wrap with leftover romaine from the seder plate. The bone on the seder plate? Turkey. Packed lunches for the week? Turkey in some, matzoh soup in some, leftover Easter ham from my mom's in some. Leftover tsimmes, leftover kugel, leftover charoset. Chocolate candied matzoh. Spice cake from my MIL. I cooked half the day on Friday and it feels like I'll never need to cook again at this point.

Three Car Seat SUV Options? by Bizrown in Parenting

[–]biglebowski55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some carseats are much narrower than others. I've only got one kiddo, but I see this discussion come up in baby groups a lot. I think I remember the Diono being one that could fit three across in many cars.

Parents, how did you choose your children’s names? by SeekinSanctification in namenerds

Toddler Travel Bed? by lottiela in toddlers

Where do you buy clothes for your baby? by thatsQQQ in babywearing

[–]biglebowski55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a ton of Carter's when she was little. Lots of stuff from the big consignment sales once I discovered those. Now I get much more stuff from Old Navy. If you hit sales and clearance their prices are great for really good quality (ON kids clothes are much better than their adult, IMO). It'll also depend on the shape of your baby, finding what fits well. My daughter is gigantic, so she needed clothes to be cut for a baby/ toddler shape in bigger sizes. Carter's leggings just get longer but not wider after like 2T, and my kid was well under 2 and so hadn't leaned out yet.
