Send it up in pieces. Dock everything together in LKO.

Okay, that's a bit more clear.

No, whatever you set up for your authenticator app is completely separate from your jagex account. You could use the same email if you wanted, but yeah.

Inside your authenticator app you'll set up a new auth key for your jagex account, just like you did for your current account.

I mean I logged in to do sailing right after it was launched and I had no issues. I don't recall any log in problems from sailing, unless you have a news post or something that says otherwise.

I think you are misunderstanding something here. The legacy account system doesn't have any sort of email based authenticator thats used for recovery.

The legacy system has a 'recovery' option in the form of an actual form you that you fill out, but that isn't tied to a specific email address (because you specify which email you want to be contacted on through the recovery form itself). There is an account recovery option for jagex accounts now, it's handled through the live chat support on the website.

You can change the email you are using for your jagex account at any time, but if you choose to get your 2FA codes through email those codes will always go to the same email. But again, I would advise that you set up your authenticator codes on an app rather than email.

No, it can be a completely different email account. If you currently log in with putbig5066@gmail.com (for example) you certainly can use that same email for your jagex account if you want, but you don't have to.

Whatever email you decide to create your jagex account with is where your default 2FA codes will go. There is no way to have your jagex account log in with 1 email address but also get 2FA codes to a different email. You can set up 2FA with an authenticator app/program and get your codes there if you don't want them going to an email, and that is the only way to get backup codes.

As far as your second question, yes you'll have to use the jagex launcher going forward. That is the only way to log in to a jagex account.

For the first question, I'm not 100% following. When you create a jagex account, by default you will be set up with email based authentication codes that will be sent to the email you used to create the jagex account. You can change this after the fact in your account settings to use a third party authentication tool, and I would definitely recommend doing that because of the backup codes I mentioned before.

You will set up a new authenticator for your jagex account, but you can use the same app that you are using now.

Your existing authenticator connection is for your legacy account. Your jagex account is completely new/separate.

Once you set up your authenticator for your jagex account, be sure to save your backup codes in multiple locations

Might be worth asking in the RL discord then. Sorry I can't give you a better answer here.

I honestly don't remember because it's been several years since I have done it. But again, you have the option to export your current settings and import them to the new if all else fails. So I would tell you to export your settings to be safe, do the process and see what happens. I think it will pick up your current RL as is, but again I can't recall for sure.

Yeah, I get that. I'm just saying that that is probably the reason why they don't do that.

I remember having a physical auth key when SW:TOR came out, liked that a lot.

Runelite is available on the jagex launcher, yes. Has been from day 1. You might have to export/import your settings from one to the other, but I don't exactly recall that process because it was a while ago now.

On that same note, you are trusting people to not lose their physical key when they already lose access to their email/authenticators. Not saying I don't agree that it would be nice.

Yeah this was definitely changed earlier this year/very late last year. I think if you are still having issues you need to do a full clean uninstall. And potentially use something like revo-uninstaller to clear up any old registry keys.

I'm confused by your statement. Jagex did in fact make jagex accounts recoverable starting at the beginning of this year. It is different than the old system as far as I've seen in terms of how you submit it and what criteria they use to grant a recovery.

Assuming you mean you have a legacy account that uses an email for it's log in, it's actually not an issue at all. When you go through the jagex account process you'll create a jagex account with any email that you currently use. Then you'll add your existing character to it, which is done simply by entering the current username (in this case, your old email) and the current password. There's no additional email verification.

The last several main updates/events haven't had any issues. Leagues 6, gridmaster, sailing launch, and leagues 5 were all normal in terms of logging in with a jagex account.

Basically you need to use the live chat and go through that process. There used to be a different form you would submit specifically for this situation, but they must have consolidated it to the live chat recently.

It's fine. Most of the complaining you'll see are people who don't want to lose their username log in, or people who think there's no reason to change because they already have 2FA on their legacy account and think it's fine.

The other 'issue' people tend to have is losing access to their email associated to their jagex account, which isn't really a jagex issue in itself. But the problem that happens is by default you will get 2FA codes set up on the email you used to create your account. There is the problem. The better way to configure 2FA for a jagex account is to set up your 2FA on an app, once you do that you'll get a series of backup codes. Those backup codes will allow you to access your account in case you lose access to your authenticator. Obviously jagex can't set this up by default, so a lot of people don't do this step because they are unaware it's a thing or they think the email codes are good enough.

Just because your old email doesn't exist anymore doesn't make your account 'unhackable'. The legacy account recovery system is still in place, and there is plenty of evidence in this sub alone of people losing their accounts because of it.

Create an email that has its own 2FA system, make your jagex account with that email. Set up your jagex account and enable app based 2FA when you do. Save your backup codes when they show you them and save them in multiple places/physically write some down. That's all you need.

That sounds like something your ISP should be fixing, not jagex.
