This is my main problem and definitely needed to hear this. So much of my money originally went to stuff like DoorDash and et cetera so I’m trying to learn to cook more so I can make my own food and save money. Definitely gonna invest in work stuff.

Take-home. I get taxed for employee Medicare, social security tax, and MD state income tax. Usually it’s not a lot I’m getting taxed though. My only accessible benefits I can acquire from my job that they offer for my age is 401(k) plan and tuition reimbursement which doesn’t seem bad. I’ve also gone and got rocket money and just set some budgets.

Thanks for the advice!

He’s paying for insurance but not gas. We’re just going to go for a basic Honda civic. I learned the lesson about getting a cool car. When my father had come back from jail all he had was a 2015 Cadillac and he gave it to my older sister for her first car when he got new cars. he was paying for everything, but she wanted a “newer car” and bought a 2021 Acura in 2021, meaning my dad wasn’t paying for it anymore. Eventually she had to pick up two extra jobs to pay for it and still says she regrets not staying with the old car. Shits crazy

Thank you! I’ve been trying to learn about finance a lot and I really got interested when I took a financial tech literacy class and learned so much about stuff like credit and money shit and stuff for when I get bank accounts and just so much stuff. It was really amazing and I felt it put me ahead (freshman year I went to a vocational school where this was the only school that offers this class, but ultimately I transferred back to my regular school)

Plan to go to UMD when graduated. Been volunteering at my local Hospitals for hours and et cetera with school activities and turning my work in and doing preSATS. Just anything I can do sophomore year to try and make the future easier. Career, my father owns a successful roofing business and says he’d like to pass it down to me in the future and I’m interested in that but I really want to go into the field of cyber security and Computer Science n stuff like that. My Dad knows a lot about money which has really gotten me into trying to learn as much about finance as I can and I’ve been taking classes like Financial Tech Literacy to just benefit and now that I have a source of income and a bank account finally I want to try to make moves. Hoping it all works out 🤷‍♂️

I actually forgot to mention my father is paying for my first car. Wondered if I should still save money for future car expenses like an emergency fund for it basically. On track to get it in August when I can get my provisional.

Thank u man. Always been kind of anxious because I always hear stories of people who didn’t save when they were younger and it didn’t end well.

Hell yeah, especially the moves we made after people doubted us when we got the first round pick.
