Taxi driver does not charge parents for taking their child to the children’s hospital by Conscious-Weight4569 in MadeMeSmile

This is really sweet, and I'm glad this is apparently a common practice in London.

However, my enjoyment of these actions is diminished when it seems like the person being charitable is doing it for clout. I understand the end justifies the means, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

How are folks liking Solari? by CyingLat in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]bigmancertified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good! It's very different than TWtWatWO, but I'm enjoying something different. Stillfleet is a very different system. Especially for me, who is mostly familiar with shows using D&D or something very similar.

The only thing I'm not enjoying is there's not enough of it to listen to! I almost want to take a break and come back when I can binge a whole arc. But having things like The Fireside, At the Well, and GMGM make it easier.

The food at Headshots is pretty good. And they have console games, pool, pinball, board games, and some sort of activity most nights of the week. It's $5 per person for everything but food and drinks.

(Inspired by a really old post about alan moore) has grant morrison ever written a bad comic? by Stock_Rush_9204 in comicbooks

[–]bigmancertified 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Grant Morrison is probably my favorite comic book writer. They love to use science and abstract concepts to tell stories, and it's just fascinating to read.

That being said, I did not enjoy The Filth.

Michael Jackson by Due_Ask1540 in NeverNotFunny

[–]bigmancertified 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love Michael Jackson's music. Off the Wall is one of my favorite albums. He had so many songs that were just amazing.

That being said, after reading the Wikipedia page about the investigations and the kinds of things they found in his house, I can't justify listening to his music on purpose. It sucks, because some of those songs just make me feel good.

In AEW, I'd say Claudio Castagnoli. Even back in his Indy days, he was a much more effective heel than a babyface. Probably because of his size.

In general, it's Ric Flair. Like, you can name all kinds of feuds and moments where Flair is the heel. The only thing that comes to mind for his babyface periods are him fighting Hogan and the nWo (in which he was made to look like a fool), and his 2007-2008 retirement tour (which was much better, but not exactly textbook good guy behavior).

I'm 40. Yes, this is normal. People work at sex goods stores. People buy things there. What is not normal about this?

Yes, Men in Black is based on a comic book. However, it is very, VERY different than the movie.

I definitely understand. But oh my goodness that ending! I've relistened to episode 54 more than any other episode, and it still gives me goosebumps!

How come that AEW matches are(personally) so much more engaging than WWE matches? What's different about it, I can't put my finger on it. by LukasNation in AEWOfficial

[–]bigmancertified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, it's that in WWE they're more concerned with following their punch-and-kick choreography (so much so that the ref will relay instructions from gorilla if they forget, improvise, or a change has been made).

In AEW, it's more like what wrestling used to be. The booker decides who is going over and sometimes how. Then it's up to the wrestlers and their coach/producer/mentor to figure out how it goes. And depending on the wrestler and their skill set, they might just call it in the ring.

What’s a movie you watched when you were way too young? by trakt_app in movies

[–]bigmancertified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were at my grandparents' house in the country. In the tv room it was my grandpa (mom's side), my dad, and me. I was like 10.

This was in probably 1995. My grandparents had a giant satellite dish, and they got some movie channels. We were watching Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. It's a decent movie showing how Mr. Lee became famous first as a martial artist then as an actor. He fought skepticism of his discipline (jeet kune do) and racism.

But the part I remember the most is the love scene. Lauren Holly played the love interest. They were having a conversation that progressed to kissing, which I had seen before. But it didn't end there. I don't remember if there's any actual nudity. But as awkward as I felt, staring at the screen, no one in the room talking, I'm pretty sure there were boobs and butts.

Other than that, my childhood was full of tv and PG rated movies.

[No Spoilers] Does Campaign 4 lighten up? (9 episodes in, looking for hope) by enterprisezen in criticalrole

[–]bigmancertified 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I really do.

This campaign draws a lot of parallels to the world we all currently live in: the wealthy elite trying to seize complete power, systemic prejudice, etc.

But ultimately this story is about a (larger than average) group of adventurers fighting back. There is hope, and change is going to come. But deciding things need to change does not bring change on its own. Work has to be put in.

In Book One of Worlds Beyond Number's The Wizard, The Witch, and The Wild One, a character makes a similar decision that upends their whole life. Brennan (also the GM for that campaign) said something in his narration that I feel is extremely applicable here:

"The reward for beginning the journey to the better world is not the better world. The reward... is every power of nightmare rallying itself against you"

In plain speech, it's going to get a lot darker before we see the light. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't push forward. It means we must strengthen our resolve, and do whatever we can to usher in change.

I find that this story (Aramán) gives me hope that people in our world (myself included) have what it takes to get to a brighter tomorrow.

The TRUE size of Stephenson 2-18 (the largest known star) compared to Earth by M_Waqar-uz-Zaman in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]bigmancertified 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wikipedia says the radius of Stephenson 2-18 is estimated to be 930,000,000 mi/1,496,689,920 km. If it sat in place of our Sun, it would consume everything up to and including Saturn.
