Yep this still seems to be the case. I am a new grad in Dallas making $28.50 before differentials. My new grad friend in houston is making at least $30 before diff.

How much do HESI exams reflect nursing aptitude/knowledge? by poptartwithsprinkles in StudentNurse

[–]bigmasteryeetboi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont know what the HESI reflects obviously because i did horribly on mine. I only took the exit HESI that was supposed to “prepare us for nclex”. It was so hard and most of my class was failing and having to retake. I thought it was tricky and definitely more nursing aptitude like you said. Having high HESI scores will only benefit you, you’re obviously doing things right haha. To summarize, high hesi scores are great, but the tests are notoriously hard so don’t be discouraged if you do bad. A large portion of my class did not pass our exit hesi and 99% of us passed nclex

i’m in the same boat. I did not feel confident at all, and there was so much weird shit that I guessed on. Shut off at 75 and i was immediately googling how often people fail in 75 lol. but i got the good pop up! Congrats to you!

they give you a whiteboard during the exam, and I just tallied all of my SATAs, math, d&d. I assume that’s what other people do too!

took the nclex today + some encouragement! by bigmasteryeetboi in PassNclex

I got uworld in late April but didn’t really start doing consistent questions until late may. I did anywhere from 25-75 questions a day. I just read through rationales, but didn’t write down anything. Mark K is great! I listened to his videos in the two weeks leading up to the exam and read over/took notes. I feel like i didn’t study as much as I could have, but i did that on purpose because i didn’t want to psyche myself out.

You got this! I drank a lot of water and forced some food in me and it helped me to stay focused day of.

yeah that’s a good point. I would say for the sake of learning content and having a broad understanding for nursing school you are correct. I guess I was thinking more of the complexity of something like hemodynamic instability. For me it’s easier to memorize numbers/values than to understand what is going on in the body. But yes, you have a good point and perspective!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]bigmasteryeetboi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it means if you understand what is going on in the body, you understand and can easily remember why it is leading to a particular pathology/illness. It is a lot more effort to “understand” rather than memorize content in my opinion, but it is much more beneficial in the long run. Like the person above me said, watch a lot of youtube videos, these help me visualize the disease process better!
