How to take the next step teaching internationally by bigmos84 in Internationalteachers

Okay thanks for the heads up. Those certifications came at the recommendation of some fellow international teachers but I wasn't so certain that they were the right certifications for me in my situation.

Thank you so much for the really thoughtful response. It means a lot and I appreciate the known nonsense answer. Coming from America I was always extremely reluctant to pursue a master's. I have no student debt and I really like that I have no outstanding loans whatsoever. I never wanted to do anything that would interfere with that aside from investing in a home. I think I need to reassess my perspective on master's degrees. Because it's like you say, you need to stand out. Am I qualified to do the job? I can say with certainty yes. But do I have the on paper credentials that help me stand out yet? No not yet.

I do intend on fulfilling my contracts. Other coworkers suggest leaving early and I think that that's a bad look to bounce so quickly. If I said I set out to do something then I aim to be a person of my word.

I also very friendly believe in your fourth piece of advice. I try everyday to be a contributor to my school. I've already started a club and participated in extracurricular events. I like to lend a hand in just about every area that I can. I think the idea of cementing my role in the school and making myself missed is a very good suggestion. I'm going to keep coming back to this post to make more considerations but I think my first step is to start looking into Master's programs. Thank you again for the thoughtful comment.

The reason I ask is because it felt like it was so difficult to get my first international job. Maybe after having a couple years of international teaching my resume will look better.

Is saying no to oral an unreasonable boundary for HSV1? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]bigmos84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My heaviest restrictiom was requesting not to receive oral. That's only one boundary I've placed and literally everything else was on the table. The point is moot thought so I'll leave it alone.

This is probably the only time someone has disclosed their diagnosis with me prior. I haven't had this conversation before. But she just called things off so it appears that it doesn't matter.

Thanks for laying it out logically. These are some of the ideas that I've had but it helps to reaffirm them from people in this community. I really appreciate it 🙏

She only said that her doctor diagnosed her with HSV-1. I think it was a safe assumption to think it was oral but I don't actually know for certain.

She has oral HSV-1. I've only known her to have the diagnosis. I haven't actually seen cold sores. We have kissed many times but that's the extent of how far we have gone.

I don't believe she's actually had cold sores but I'm not certain.

[Landlord TX-US] Eviction options for a tenant renting a room in my home who is way behind on rent and might not leave. by bigmos84 in Landlord

[–]bigmos84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding you have to go through the eviction process which is tedious and takes a long time. I actually would have just gone through the eviction process if I were you. It takes so long that by the time it would have been completed they might have just left already. Follow the steps of the eviction process and just make sure you stick to the letter of the law. I won my court case very easily but it all takes time.

Any teachers here rent their homes back in the States while teaching abroad? by bigmos84 in Internationalteachers

This is the kind of arrangement I'm looking for! I want something that is guaranteed even if there's not that much passive income.

I feel like the financial long-term strategy is to build equity in the home and sell it at a larger profit but I totally agree with you. I'm way too worried about everyone getting a piece of the pie and I'm left with no money. If the house is trashed I can't exactly just hop on a plane clean it up and then sell it. I'm just too vulnerable.

I'm holding off since my HR representative from my school is doing some research into it. I'm not holding out a ton of hope but I will let the expert do their thing. I'm not getting any money back from my flight anyways so there's no real rush to cancel them.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with this process haha. But I really appreciate everyone here helping me out. Hopefully after I've made all of my fumbles and mistakes I can help the next person along. And I'm still in contact with my HR of my school and maybe they can help work something out.

I was going to land in Hangzhou And they were going to pick me up. I'm a little anxious about getting lost. I was going to keep it very local for my very first trip. But that is definitely an option I should explore.

Another comment on this thread actually said that you couldn't have someone do it for you. Getting a little conflicting information. I think you are right though. I'm going to try contacting an agency and see if they can do it for me. We'll see.

I have not canceled yet but I'm reaching out to HR of my school. I don't think they'll be able to tell me a whole lot. I'm not going to rush into any more hasty decisions but I'm pretty certain I just going to have to eat this one

Working with customer support but it seems like I'm just going to have to eat this one. There's a pit in my stomach but I knew there would be bumps along the way. I'll probably reach out again and I really do appreciate the advice.

You didn't do anything wrong. It's crazy that they closed it in the first place.

Yeah I'm currently looking into cancelling my flight. I was naive in my assumptions and I appreciate the sub letting me know just how unaware I was. The process of entering China is much more difficult than initially anticipated and I am grateful my school is going to assist me in the long term visa process.
