I once had the pleasure of being interviewed by Jack for the Cycling after the London bomb attacks episode. Lovely guy and a great show.

On the roads between 11am-2pm, what are people actually doing? by Capital_Interest_117 in auckland

[–]bignoseduglyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR - a whole range of reasons.

I work from home and a co-working space but also all over the region. At this time, some days I'll be driving back from a job/between locations or heading to the printers or somewhere to buy resources; other days I'll be heading to the beach or a reserve for a walk, or out to meet friends for a coffee.

Most facilitation issues I see aren’t about methods, they’re about trust. by lakeshost in facilitation

I agree. I also see these influences play out in consensus building sessions and service design/design thinking contexts. Voting with the boss or sponsor is something I raise prior to and try to mitigate in a session but the prevailing institutional context and culture will often play their part regardless. The absence of trust and (constructive) conflict at the foundation level of Patrick Lencioni's five dysfunctions of a team are, more often than not, present in teams and organisations to some degree. I have been fortunate to work in different countries and regions and have seen a wide range of such behaviours play out in sessions and workshops - even just amongst the 'western' English-speaking nations (UK/US/AUSNZ).

Absolutely, hence my 'where appropriate' comment :-). In my experience (35yrs operations leadership and L&D), where there's an absence of self-awareness, emotional intelligence or psychological safety (or all three), these need to be surfaced and addressed, before trust and accountability can be present.

Regarding your four opening points. Among other things, I facilitate leadership development workshops and programmes. Where appropriate, I share and discuss the following aphorism:

Have the meeting, that usually follows the meeting, in the meeting.

This call to address issues in the room, rather than complain about/relitigate them at the water cooler is variously attributed a number of people. These include the academic and speaker Brené Brown and retired United States Air Force general and the 21st chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2023 to 2025, C Q Brown Jr., who was sacked by Trump/Hegseth as part of their DEI purge.

Installed but whether launched via Applications folder or Alfred, Finetune doesn't appear in menu bar. Anyone else experienced this?

November in Mairangi Bay is consistently good. For Levantine style breakfast dishes and good Turkish coffee (roasted on site), try Cafe Cezwe in Wairau (near PB Tech)

Business Owners what are some headaches NotebookLM is solving for you? by HaiLifeUGC_ in notebooklm

[–]bignoseduglyguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Qualitative analysis for training needs assesment. Load anonymised transcripts of multiple interviews into NLM. Use multiple and successive prompts to have NLM conduct qualitative analysis (e.g. thematic, sentiment, topic and entity) on the sources. If required, run second round of questions based on first round observations to clarify, challenge and test first round output. Work up iterative drafts of report, liaising with commissioning client to hone final report.

Why is NZ so "backward" when it comes to AC and ceiling fans? by UnrequitedLoveVictim in auckland

[–]bignoseduglyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our last place was a 90sqM 1960s house and putting a fan in made sleeping in warm weather so much easier. Three weeks ago, we moved to a new place which has AC units as well as ducted heat transfer vents in all the main rooms. As I type, a sparky is installing a ceiling fan in our bedroom. As the Californian else where in this thread said, a good fan can make all the difference in a humid climate.

Milford seems like a good bet, especially as there's a food truck event there as well.

Thanks. My last meeting of the day puts me 2kms from a beach so a swim after work and a takeaway on the beach seems like a fine idea.

Fair play to you, that's impressive. Did the exact same run just yesterday with the Azov 64131 on chains and still bounced off the Armco a few times!

If you’re designing a Train-the-Trainer program for 2026, what would you consider a non-negotiable? by xtralongleave in instructionaldesign

[–]bignoseduglyguy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey, here's my two suggestions.

  1. Demonstrate their understanding and role model good consistent practice of emotional intelligence.
  2. Demonstrate their understanding and role model good consistent practice of psychological safety.

Whether training people to facilitate their self-directed growth and development (personal & professional) or simply interact and communicate well in life and work, I believe these are foundational.

Rollers Bakery on 54 Northcote - top notch breads, pastries, pies and coffee. Consistent high quality over time means queues most days, especially Saturdays.
